I will be purchasing everything for my ST through edge for the simple fact that they still support the ST, make videos and clearly put serious time and care into this vehicle... and still into 2022?! Thank you guys.
Thanks for the video. I was contemplating doing this mods a while back. Not a lot of info on it. So its great to see this. But decided to just go BNR Turbo instead. Soon to be tuned by you! 😁
@@NEWNATURE777 on an electronic wastegate there is no upgrade because the tuner can just commanded 100 percent WGDC So as a result if you’re running a good tune on a car with an electronic waste gate this video does not apply to you in anyway
@@EdgeAutosport i really appreciate that! Definitely will take you up on that in the future been a honda guy my whole life so these are alittle new to me 😂😂
PSA: I did this against my better judgment with the MonsterTuned Adapt-X tune on my 2018 (NOT recommended by MonsterTuned), and a week later at an autocross my motor LSPI'd and killed Cylinder 4. Word to the wise. TUNE for this mod. Car did run great with this done, really felt a difference in the mid-top end. Was fun while it lasted...
This is great advice! We always recommend tuning for any power mods ESPECIALLY when dealing with adding boost. Getting your car Tuned will make sure your new power is running safe!
The last part is the most important part, if you will pre-load your wastegate, you have to make sure you're using high octane fuel or ethanol otherwise you'll be getting boost spikes and your engine WILL KNOCK and you may even break a piston.
We also did testing on the fiesta st while the gains aren’t as good as the focus or RS We got 10whp and pushed out the powerband by 1000rpm worth every single penny
@@EdgeAutosport i did testing purely because the word on the street was an upgrade for the fiesta is absolutely worthless because the K39 is maxed with a basic tune and the WGDC at 100. The problem is as you know these stock wastegates are woefully under tightened to prevent any overboost situations like the Subarus tend to have. So I’m testing we found it to be a very worthwhile mod, the problem is most people are cheap and don’t wanna spend 4-500 bucks for a wastegate & install The real winner is the 2.3 that engine makes huge gains with a spring upgrade
It sucks that we are so far apart otherwise I you would be my shop. period!!! I have a question or 2. One being if i decide just to adjust the preload on the stock valve will it trigger any codes ? And is there any things i should be concern or careful with if i go the "4 full turns" on the stock one. I know you mention that it will not be a massive gain and that it will help the torque curve and "maybe" some HP but wondering if it is something noticable that will say yes its worth doing until i start my projects in the future. I have a rear motor.ount and i do like it a lot ... I am just looking for stuf like this for now. You guys are awesome and thank for the high quality content
Id be curious if the adjustment to the preload on the actuator on the ST is also applicable to the RS? I would think so but want sone input before i do so
I’m getting my car E tune next week….. can I Install the wastegate on my ST and go with the OST stage 0 from COBB or I should wait for the base map from Alan then install it?
Hi Alan i just installed mine today and uploaded my new tune. i tried preloading it to 4mm, What are some things i should look out for or keep track of?
I have a Garrett powermax turbo how do I pre load it cuz it’s different structure at the end compared to the one you have installed on the one you’re doing in this video?
It will overboost. Not critically, but the car will try and bring it back down again and not be happy about it. This is why it is best to account for the change via tuning. And for the record, If you are already tuned by Alan, this is just a revision to your map, not a full price tune.
So can I clarify? Obviously it was stated after the wastegate upgrade it needs a tune. However do i need to tune the factory wastewater adjustment to max out preload? I assume so but it also makes sense that we shouldn't have to aswell.
Hello Sir, I have one question. I test my wastgate but when i put pressure in the line from turbo to wastgete valve open but i saw also there was air escape from the rod that goes in the wastgate. Is that normal or this wastgate is broken ?
So if i have done the stock WG preload, tuned for the preload with E30/93 mix, running 12psi at redline now.....if i did the turbosmart WG and ran 14-15 psi at redline to stay "safer", what would you estimate 2 psi is worth in HP on top? And would i need retuned for the turbosmart?
Honestly, it is probably only about 10whp. Maybe 15 with the ethanol blend. Gains on 93oct are not as high due to added heat and having to run a little less spark advance. But with ethanol, you'll see a little more gains since the ethanol helps keep the cylinders cooler.
I would say it depends what you are trying to do. If you are replacing the BOV then the wheel well is probably your best bet. If you are doing the actuator. Top down, and pulling the intake and heatshield will give you a clear view of the actuator. You can also pull the overflow tank for the coolant and that motor mount that sits under it. It will allow the motor to pull forward a little giving you a little more wiggle room. Just don't forget to bolt the motor mount back down when you are putting things back together.
Hey guys are you still looking at changing the cat out Also one cheap mod for those who are saving for the intake upgrade Remove the airbox cover and strap the filter down with a length of serpentine belt and 2 of the existing screws So much more suction noise
Hey edge what's the news with the new us regulations regarding emissions. I am headed to Texas from Colorado for the actual only reason I can tune my cars how I want to. I heard cobb no longer supports the accessport engine code overrides. Is it even worth tuning with accessport to track stuff?
The AP remains a very versatile tuning platform. If you are going full track car, it's less of an option now... but a weekend warrior track car, emissions equipment wont really slow you down. Through our testing, we can confirm catless exhausts do not perform significantly better than catted.
@@EdgeAutosport awesome!!! My goal is the ultimate Focus ST not particularly track focused. I meant track engine Temps and data. That answers my question perfectly. You guys are so awesome and I have built my ST around yalls videos as a guide
Got a question, I recently purchased the turbosmart wastegate for my car as my wastegate is shot and causing overboost, I was gonna install it and set the preload to stock pressures so I can run the car without overboost until I can replace the turbo. My question is do I absolutely need a tune to install the TS waste gate? If so do I need a access port to do said tune? like I said I want to run factory boost pressures until I can upgrade my turbo which I do plan on getting a tune access port for, just wanted to know if I can fix the over boost problem until I can afford everything.
@@fastfast5824 We should have some pretty cool stuff regarding that coming up in the not too distant future. Just working on some developmental things at the moment.
So, a couple folks noticed on the Fiesta st in particular that changing the WGA (amd tune of course) got a little more top end. Most people are saying no but some studies are saying yes...any thoughts?
It is probably about as helpful for the fiesta as it is for the ST. It isn't earth shattering gains, but it will show improvements in parts of the curve.
Either is fine, but I prefer the 7psi at this point. As I've seen more and more issues with people trying to push the stock turbo to hard up top, you don't necessarily need the 12psi spring.
This should help keep boost up through the powerband as we described. As for safety, you would want to consult your tuner to adjust for this, and make sure its calibrated for more boost after peak.
while that is tragic, It couldn't have been the wastegate adjustment alone... or it was hooked up to stay closed all the time and over boosted like crazy
@@PepperRed probably wasn't wastegate but I did a pull and buddy behind me said he saw smoke. pulled motor and took apart to find that I shattered a piston
@alan i know you guys love E, but for us guys that need or want to use meth, you guys should install a snow stg 2.5 meth kit, even if its just temporary and for data… not really any videos on YT with the focus st and data from it… focus st stock turbo FBO stock fuel and then with meth, and maybe a 2867 stock fuel and on meth would be great to see…. Thought id suggest it since you guys ask for suggestions sometimes… theres alot of people wanting this data i think
@@TMTMS3 i have the kit and you will be tuning it on a bnr67 this year but it would be cool seeing the data from 50/50 blends 75/25 and 100% meth… just alot of good data to be had…love watching you guys here, and seeing your input on the alliance, keep it up and hoping we see some tuning content with meth 🤞🏼🤘🏼
