So glad this is here I think I need to install one on mine bc I’ve got some boost leak under heavy throttle and it could very well be the stock actuator!!
This is absolutely the best RS WGA install video on YT, but it does make the removal of that bottom heat shield bolt look easy. It's the hardest part of this job IMO. I spent an hour cramming my hands between the turbo oil lines & the turbo, using a T30, (which was too big) a T25 (which was too small) and a 4mm allen, (which fit but I couldn't hold onto it well enough to turn) and eventually gave up and did the whole job with the heat shield bent back. It was absolutely a nightmare but it IS possible to do with the bottom bolt still on, especially if you unbolt the PMM like Cameron does. Reinstalling the clip on the clevis is also kind of a pain. Either tie elastic string to it (you can yoink elastic off the clip when it's installed) or get a magnet in there if you can fit it and push it on as hard as you can with your fingers so it "sticks". Then, get something flat (like that magnet) to push it down more, THEN get a flat head screwdriver and push in those grooves in the shoulders of the clip one at a time. Job done. The howling/singing noise you hear at 16:01 is the car needing a sound suppression chamber. That install also sucks almost as much as this one, (massive snap ring in a weird spot) but the part is cheap and it does fix the issue. DO NOT go WOT with this thing on without a tune. You WILL overboost and kill the engine. My base tune also needed E85 and my aux injectors hooked up so on the way to fill up I tempted fate and found I was getting 25PSI at 70% throttle in normal mode.
Before anyone tries to test their wastegate with air make sure you dial down the pressure. They aren't designed for high shop pressure. Especially a used stock one.
this was one of my first mods based on the forums and such an improvement over stock. I understand from a business perspective but at the same time if I was you I would sell the STI or my plasma before letting the RS go. Everyone who sells their RS always talks about how it was a huge mistake. RS's rip so many fast cars, especially on a non prepped surface. Think twice Cam!
Ayyy good stuff getting the turbo coolant fitting clip off without mangling it up. If you ever have to remove those coolant lines again it would be a good idea to replace the fitting. They got a seal on the inside that can get brittle and flat.
You are so good at doing this stuff,I have a 2018 rs Le I have 13,000 miles on it but actually I have 8,000 on the engine cause I bought a lemon through online can't think of the name right now but it's the red one and right when I got it I had to spend 3,140.00 I had all plans for this car and blow off valve and waiste gate but I just can barely afford to make payments and the engine went a month later thank God I had ins that Ford had to put a new engine please help I want my car to be like yours
@Cameron So, I got a wild rattling noise coming from my stock turbo ('16 FoST). I' ve been looking some stuff online to see what I can do. Some sites note that the Wastegate actuator, pivot, and flapper can't be replaced and requires a new turbo. However in this video essentially replacing what on my car is already faulty and has play which is causing some rattling. Will doing this install on my ST be fine or is a new turbo truly on my only option? This is the title of a YT video with a very similar scenario as my FoST; "Ford Ecoboost Cold Startup Turbo Rattle Explained" I am looking to replace with a new turbo unless I do have options.
