In this extensive series of lessons, Mark Wessels, author of "A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum", takes you through the most fundamental aspects of playing the snare drum. "A Fresh Approach to the Snare Drum" is currently one of the top selling methods in the U.S., with over 12,000 units sold annually!
Even if you're a skilled percussionist, we recommend that you take the time to view each lesson and put into practice the concepts that Mark establishes from the beginning. Building upon the very basic skills, each new video will logically progress to higher levels of technical and reading abilities, introducing new exercises and rudiments along the way.

Thank you Mark and Vic Firth!I have been playing down strokes wrong for seven years. I may as well have called my down stroke a 'tension stroke'! It was like I was trying to hammer a nail! I have only been practicing the proper down stroke shown here for a single day and I already feel more relaxed when playing fast, dynamic passages. Thanks

I've been playing wrong over 20 years. I've been going through this book to learn proper rebound strokes. This is exactly the way I used to play, which makes me afraid to practice this technique. I don't want to go backward..

I'm not sure how to do the "1, 2, 3, 4, stop". In each of the "bounces in the air", how does the stick change direction? Does it bounce against the palm? Do you have to squeeze it really hard with your thumb and index to revert the motion?

+Hernán Mouro I think it doesn't change direction. It doesn't touch your palm, there is always a little space. You don't have to squeeze it really hard you have to be relaxed (o: Did you mastered it since 2014 ?

Pressure, squeezing and tension are technically the same
