Kermit is there all the time. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and he is an awesome guy! He is currently working on his next version of Fantasy of Flight that he is calling “Act III” which will take his idea of an aviation themed attraction to a whole new level! You should definitely try to meet him to talk about his ideas!
Rays up! Those guys in yellow are always there on Sundays so hilarious. 5th sweep and no losses at home, 22 HRs in a row! Safety Harbor is my old stomping grounds such a great town. Used to fish off that pier in high school.
Kermit Weeks' grandfather, Lewis George Weeks, started the collection if I read it correctly. What an awesome legacy to share! Thanks Adam for bringing us along to view these amazing aircraft!
Trivia: Gee Bee's were featured in the ROCKETEER film. Cliff Seacord's yellow and black plane was a Gee Bee. Dave Stevens' the creator THE ROCKETEER and head writer of the movie drew Cliff's plane as a Gee Bee in the comic books prior to the film as well. Stevens loved all things from the '30s and '40s and often including vintage elements in his artwork.
A few years ago, one of the prop planes from Fantasy of Flight was in Michigan giving rides. My son wanted to go (I was a bit freaked out) but it was so fun! An open air cockpit flight experience should be on everyone’s bucket list.
With Fantasy Of Flight, The cockpit you looked into at @25:13 is a B-24 Liberator. @ 25:42 The bomber behind your left is a B-29 Super Fortress, the cockpit was the inspiration for the Millennium Falcon. @29:42 that is a P-51 Mustang. My grandfather was a P-51 pilot. Did 81 missions. My grandmother was a W.A.S.P pilot and I wrote a script on that. I tried to get the studio and director to film at Fantasy Springs, the had a sound stage there. I have talked with ower Kermit Weeks who owns that place and planes. Nice guy. But the studio told me that I was the writer and scout location. The story takes place at Camp Davis NC. Close enough to Florida. Ugh. Great vlog! And go Rays!
I've been following Kermit Weeks for years. He has the largest private collection of vintage aircraft in the world. What you saw was only a small percentage of what he has that are not on display. He's a bit of a dreamer, over his last 5-7 years RU-vid videos he wants to make it into a tourist destination, but it hasn't happened yet. I myself would of course stop as an aviation enthusiast and private pilot, but not the general public I'm afraid. I hope Kermit's doing well, us RU-vid followers miss him and his incredible flying machines 😊😊
Love the aviation videos! I have been by Fantasty of Flight a zillion times and never open. Thanks for bringing it to us! I believe the rickshaw was a version of a luggage carrier from back in the day. MCO was McCoy AFB, hence the Orlando Airport Code. Looks like a fun filled day!!
In 1992 my husband & I flew over the WDW area in a tiny biplane ( just us with pilot behind us) it was fantastic the air and the noise and the views something I always remember. It was very open and basic but fun! Xx
Aviation museums are among the best to visit for history and innovation. Made even better when you get access like this to enjoy it without too many people.
Thanks for touring the Fantasy of Flight museum. I've seen that place so many times and I've always wanted to go in but I never had the opportunity for one reason or another. Pretty cool touring it vicariously through you. Much appreciated, Adam. 👍🏻
Hi adam love the vintage planes they look amazing, to hear your rays baseball game are on a winning streak. Thanks for sharing 🙏☺️ stay safe and take care ⚾
That Gee Bee was in Springfield for as longas i can remember! Thank You for visiting Weeks place, I have wanted to visit his facility since 98. I was working at the Flying Tigers air museum in Kissimmee we always had some really rare aircraft that actually fly
Don't know much about them, but I do love the design of earlier planes and the finishes. So brightly painted or even chrome and I like how you got close enough to see all the rivets. A few of them reminded me of the Rocketeer!
Hey Adam, I live only a few miles from safety harbor. Just north of the downtown is a park called Philippe park. It has a huge native American burial mound hill that you can go on and has a view of Tampa bay. Rays up!
Great to see the reduced collection. I think they do guided tours to the other hangars occasionally. Visited many years ago when the whole collection was open. On that occasion the owner was flying that Duck. Many of the ac are airworthy hence don’t touch!
Woo, kermits museum was once a bustling place. I fear it will close soon as you mentioned, often closed. He is as interesting as his museum. Always great posts from the Woo!! 😊
You should take a stroll through the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola Fl. Your videos would do that place justice and for those like me who would never make it there it would be amazing.
In mid May Safety Harbor has a festival in the park you were at next to the marina. They have all kinds of food booths as well as booths with info about local businesses. I am in an adult marching band from Gulfport, Florida and we generally March at it every year. I will try to attach video!
It's easy to beat up on cellar dwelling teams. The fourth place Blue Jays are the only team they've played with a current winning record, taking two out of three from them. Oakland, Detroit, Cincinnati etc. aren't exactly the 1927 Yankees. The Astros series starts tonight. Should be the beginning of a test of their actual mettle.
Adam, really enjoyed your video and I'm a day late finishing it! Those planes and cars are sooo cool! Your grilled chicken wrap looked so good. That place you went to with the bottle trees and other cool stuff was neat. Looking forward to your next vlog.
Would have completely lost myself in that museum. Incredible flying machines. Thank you for sharing this. If you ever find yourself in Wisconsin at the end of July, check out EAA Airventure.
Wow, Adam, you did have a full day! I have been to an airplane museum in Santa Monica, CA. Also at March Air Force Base, in Riverside, CA. And one at the Mirmar Air Force in San Diego, CA. All different, and each very facinating. I have been by this one many times on the way to Orlando, FL (from New Port Richey, FL, where I used to live), but my former fiance' (whom I ended up not marrying) and still my good friend and I never stopped. I thing the reason the Rays are still winning, is because you are continuing to eat healthy! The art gardens were very special, charming with some hilarity thrown in to boot. Who knew there was a Tree of Life in Florida! The comment has ended, the comment is now over. Extra bonus comment footage(!): Thanks Adam! Another great video vlogg!
It’s a shame that Fantasy of Flight isn’t what it used to be when it first opened. It used to be very expansive but they have cut down on the size of it since then. I used to have an annual pass to it for a few years when it first opened. The building that you show at first when you get there is where you used to enter it. That part is closed now. Shows how it has shrunk in size.~~My dad was very interested in planes and got me interested too. He had a pilots license when he was young and used to fly little planes occasionally. ~~ If you love planes you should go to the Sun N Fun when it is on. It is held in Lakeland and it is awesome for someone who likes looking at planes. They have a lot! I love going to it.~~Safety Harbor is a cool place. Been there many times. Very artsy.
I went there a few times in the 1990's when you could go through the areas set up like you were in a WWI trench and a WWII B-17. Went there with some Civil Air Patrol cadets and they had fun with the simulators trying to shoot each other down! There also was a very nice snack bar in the old museum. I am sad that most of it is closed now.
I’m sure that rum smuggler plane can land on water and act as a boat as well. That’s why the propeller is so high up. Crazy. I’d love to see one in action.
Adam, if you enjoy airplanes you should go to Sun n Fun in Lakeland Fla. HUGE aircraft expo and airshow. You missed this year, but next April is their 50th. One of the best times I've ever had with my family. The night air show was mind blowing.
Kermit Weeks has an amazing collection of planes and related items. The tan building was the original museum and is the location for the restoration shops. There are a lot of planes there also.
Ok, get your pillow and hot caffeinated beverage...Love the Fantasy of Flight Museum. Last time I was there, we went into the main museum building you saw further away. The Rotunda structure is a cafeteria/Gift shop. The building inside looks like a 1930’s/40’s Terminal. We saw two famous cinematic aircraft while there: the City of Philadelphia Ford Tri-motor, better known as the only airplane in the Lao Che Airlines fleet (Temple of Doom-no it wasn’t crashed-no maw pawashoots) and we saw the WWII Luftwaffe Bücker Bü 181 side-by-side trainer better known to us as the plane that James Garner and Donald Pleasance escaped in the Great Escape. They took that out and actually flew it. They had also recently acquired a PBY, an aircraft that most of us who have seen a WWII movie would know. Pedals are for the rudder (sliding in and out) AND the left/ right dynamic brakes fancy name for you can steer by applying left or right toe pedal or both to stop. The "really big plane" is a B25 and they were used by Jimmy Doolittle to bomb Japan. They flew out of McDill in Tampa, Florida (almost where you are) and then were stripped down to be able to take off from aircraft carriers!! If you like this sort of stuff, you are so close to a few good ones; The Tennessee Air Museum in Sevierville Airport. They have German color WWII photos. I believe they have one of the best Beechcraft 10’s known as the type of Amelia Earhardt’s plane (might have been used in Ford v. Ferrari) and they have the screen used fake cockpit from the Jim Backus/Mickey Rooney/ Buddy Hackett airplane scene from it’s a Mad, Mad, Mad World. In Washington it’s Udvar-Hazy (Greatest collection -You were right there!!) at Dulles Airport, Reading Pa’s Midlantic Air Museum and their WWII weekend, Charlotte Airport Museum w/Capt. Sully’s plane, Delta has their own Atlanta Airport Museum and the Rhinebeck NY Aerodrome where they fly the world’s oldest aircraft. You NEED to come to New York outside the city! Thanks for the thumbs up vid, wish you were able to see more.
"Orlampa" totally sounds like the kind of place Willy Wonka would send his Oompa Loompas to for summer vacation. And Whimzeyland reminds me of all the funky art at Tio's Tacos in Riverside, CA. 👍
The Fantasy of Flight Museum really interesting place to visit, Raymond was certainly enjoying himself, whatever his dance was i enjoyed, and i hope the lady enjoyed what looked like a smooch 😂, that wrap looked pretty damn good Adam Thankyou
I was there back in 2007 and the brown building WAS the museum with a B17 you could walk through, interactive displays, and a screen used plane from Indiana Jones. You then took a tram to the hangar where you were. They also flew some if the vintage planes around. Seems like the museum has taken quite a few steps back since then.
With regards to the Indiana Jones Ford Tri-motor. The hanger that Adam visited, looks to me, like the exterior location used in the Temple of Doom airport scene.
If you head about 10 miles west of Safety Harbor over the Dunedin, we got a cute little area also. Its also where the Toronto Blue Jays have their Spring Training.
