The ferries to Thassos island are not "real ferries" they are small Ro/Ro 's that do the distance in less than an hour... probably you haven't travel on one of them😊

@@jimjim8645 I have visited Thassos several times, and thus used these ferries, which main purpose seem to be transporting the huge blocks of the famous Thassos marble from the island. The same design of ferries run between many other islands and the mainland. There is nothing wrong with them.

I would go to Kavala and from there take a boat to Samothraki. Or drive to the city of Alexandroupoli ( the eastern most city in Thrace ) to visit it too and take the boat for Samothrace from there. Samothrace is worth the visit more than Thasos imho. The energy of the island is mystical and unforgettable for those who can sense it. It is the site where the parents of king Alexander the Great Philip and Olympias met. The Kabeirian mysteries and the sanctuary of the Great Gods where the well- known statue of the Nike ( Victory) of Samothraki was found. Plus mt Saos - Feggari with all the waterfalls and vathres (ponds). It is a magical landscape and very green.

There is (currently) no ferry from Kavala to Samothraki. Only from Alexandroupli.

After august 31, the only option to reach Samothrace is from Alexandroupoli. However, the current problem in Samothrace will be weather. The weather forecast for Samothrace for the next 7 days is very very bad - real autumn temperatures, clouds and rain.

If I am not mistaken, Gabriel's days in Schengen Zone are recharged on cca. October 14 (after something like 20 days pause) but fall and winter don't seem to be his favourite seasons so he mostly flee them to go to tropic places and India in that time, although very rarely to the Southern Hemisphere. It seems like he prefers to ski in the USA although ski day tickets are there many times more expensive than European ones (in the Alps, Tatras, Balkans). It also seems that Christmas markets in Germany, Austria, France, Poland etc. are not his thing although can be very charmy. It is not any surprise that he hasn't seen or caught on video any real Northern Lights as he doesn't go to the north Scandinavia in winter.

That old Diagoras ship is very familiar to us. I see that you still had some cheese, peynir from Turkey, for lunch. It is not allowed to bring fresh food like milk products, meat, vegetables and fruit from a third country like Turkey to EU. And vice versa. Well, the worst that can happen is, that it will be confiscated at the custom check. Then the officers might get a free treat.

Watching this particular video brought back many memories of my first time Greek island hopping in September of 2000. It was the best travel experience ever. I was on the island of Santorini when the weather changed and the surrounding seas became rough. Little did I realize how that happy vibe would change. On the evening of September 26, 2000 the Express Samina left Piraeus. At 22:12 the ship hit the reef of Portes Islets 2 nautical miles off the port of Parikia, Paros. The ship sank at 23:02 and claimed 80 lives from a total of 533 on board. A prohibition was placed on all ships in the area traveling. I stayed 5 days in total on Santorini, and when the prohibition was lifted I took the ferry back to Athens. The mood was completely different to what I experienced heading out to the islands. I returned back to Greece in 2004 and went island hopping once again, and I had a wonderful time. But I still think about those poor souls that perished that night. This video brought back memories to me. You’re living the best life Gabe! Enjoy every day! Your channel is always awesome!! ❤️👏❤️👏

A very sad story. I think that was the accident where everyone was watching a soccer game, including all the ship workers, and they all thought someone else was manning the ship?

Yes, that’s exactly what happened. The ship drifted off course and the crew were watching a soccer game. The port master of Parikia died of a heart attack that night from the stress. A trial followed and crew members were given various prison sentences. The CEO of the shipping company committed suicide shortly after the tragedy. The Express Samina currently sits in one piece on the sea bed 100 feet down. A very sad story. May those that died RIP. 🙏🌷🇬🇷🙏🇬🇷🙏

The big ferries are the best for sure Gabe! They may be a bit slower but they have other great stuff about them like if you have bad motion-sea sickness like me lol they shake much less, also they are cheaper, most of the time they have some kind of fast food restaurant, you can put your car into those big ones and also you can walk outside freely to breath some fresh air!!! :)

To be honest, Palanga and Jurmala are not much more than beaches and fancy shops/restaurants/clubs for vacationers. Klaipeda, on the other hand, is very worth to visit with a nice old town and as from there can be glorious day trips to Curonian Spit or Hill of Crosses easily. Tallinn and Riga are very beautiful but Gabriel has been there already. Then Trakai and Kaunas in Lithuania are also very nice destinations. Estonian Baltic islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa are, for now, hidden gems, waiting to be explored. I also really liked the town of Pärnu in Estonia, nice vibe with Nordic type of houses.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos , have you ever snowmobiling? This was, for me, one of the best experiences ever when I did it in Rovaniemi, Finland. But for Northern Lights Tromsø and Lofoten Islands, Norway seem better. Svalbard is another extreme with Polar nights.

No, that isn't a realistic option. Getting some sort of visa is possible but not to just be able to travel more. You would need to show proof of employment and housing most likely. There are digital nomad visas but they also require proof of where you will be living, because they're based on the idea that you're going to stay in one place. So that would be a completely different scenario. Not worth it in my case, better to just go somewhere else and work around the 90 days.

What happens if you over stay the 90 day limit in the Schengen zone?

There's no clear answer to that one. I accidentally overstayed by about ten days back in 2016, because I'd been in and out of Europe a few times and miscalculated. I realized my mistake in Spain, did some research online and what I found was that it could depend on which country you leave from. Certain countries like Germany and the Netherlands are more strict, whereas Spain is considered to be less strict about it. So I booked a flight from Madrid to Morocco and wasn't asked about it when I went through customs. But if you do get stopped and questioned then you could potentially get fined and/or banned from coming back to Europe. So it's a risk and not one that I'm willing to take. It would be stressful for me staying when I knew there could potentially be problems once I decided to leave.

90 days in the Schengen Zone are not that short time but if it is Greece all over again, they can expire really quickly. Although when Mediterranean comes to end with islands, there are still many more islands in the Baltics (Estonia-Saaremaa, Hiiumaa, Denmark-Sjaelland, Aero, Fyn, Mon, Bornholm, Sweden-Gotland, Oland, Finland-Aland and Germany-Rügen). :)

What do the people on an island like this do for a living? It doesn't seem an island like this lives from tourism. Also didnt see any major farming, wineries etc. and remote work was not a possibility either until recently so that's also not it.

You mean the island of Lemnos? Well Lemnos actually is very fertile! with wheat and vine fields. Also some livestock production, and even less vegetables that mostly cover local needs.

Appearances are deceiving The island's economy is based on agricultural and livestock production unlike the other islands in Greece, I am quoting from the Greek wikipedia... "Lemnos is the flattest island of the Aegean with a large production of agricultural and livestock products since ancient times. In the classics times it was the granary of ancient Athens, from which it was captured, and later the supplier of wheat to the imperial court of Byzantium. Even today, the trademark of Lemnos is the sown wheat fields that reach the edge of the sea"…….

I see no reason why having a camera should mean your experiences aren't authentic, plus I'm not filming all day, only for 20-40 minutes or so. Is this your first time watching any kind of a travel show?
