Broken, badly funded and not fit for purpose: that’s the verdict on the firearms licensing system in England and Wales. But BASC and politicians who understand the importance of shooting sports to the economy, the environment and countryside communities, believe it can be fixed.

The police should not be managing firearms licenses. This needs to be an independent firearms authority that licences all individuals including police officers.

@@aeron-mw7ofs Look what happens anywhere, any time, with any kind of weapon. Look at Britain, 1967, before the Firearms Act. 1918, before the 1919 Act. 1987, before the 88 amendment. It changes nothing. It does nothing other than make politicians more powerful and destroy the independence of the nation's people, their culture, their industry. "But it's worth it for the lives it saves", you say, ignoring that without guns kids and adults alike just started stabbing each other, which - contrary to popular belief - results in death more often than shootings. CBRN weapons should be regulated, of course, but firearms? No.

my mate who owns multiple guns told me that since having his license he has become a more responsible adult. Something like getting into road rage or a scuffle at the pub can get your guns took off you instantly, even if it's just temporary until the police get to the bottom of things. he'd prefer to just leave the situation entirely nowadays compared to his younger self.

The issue are the ill people, not guns. If that guy wanted to harm people he could have done the same with attacks with a machete. nah this guy wanted to kill, he just needed an excuse. his life had to be that bad enough to drown out that little voice that tells you no, once it was then he cut off all guilt and accountability. The controls should entirely focus on the individual, not the type of firearm, it's a waste of time. If an individual has proven they are safe, part of a club, monitored and securely storing their firearms, what difference does it make which firearms they can and can't own? A gun is a gun. Works in many countries in Europe and they don't have any problems. We are paranoid at this idea that if we allow specific types of firearms, it's automatically going to result in massacres, which is simply ludicrous. Look at Switzerland.

It’s the same in London as it is anywhere else @lionheart. You would need to present to a club as a member who completes all said courses and has a minimum of 6 months. The club will then right a report on your behalf. You’ll have a medical review from your GP when your application is going through You’ll put you application in and be contacted by the firearm liaison team who will come to property, undertake a review of your home and inspection of your firearms cabinet ( this needs to be ready ) Once done you’ll be interviewed with questions and everything is then further reviewed and you will get a yes if all good or a no if there are answers they are not happy with. Every 23 minutes in the U.K., a person is killed or seriously injured by a lethal weapon. That is a tragedy society tolerates because 1 in 2 people own a motor vehicle. 1 in 113 UK citizens, 600,000 people have licenses for rifles, pistols and or shotguns. There is a total disconnect between the very very low statistical risk in the U.K. from licensed sporting guns, and the massive negative over reaction, persecution, prejudice and malice vested top down by The Home Office Weapons Policy Team and Violent Crime Reduction Unit, who’s policies hate upon Licensed sporting gun owners, victims of hate crime in everything but current definition. Negativity bias is the bane of the 21st century from unelected civil servants who have no personal joy and no uplift from having no participation in target sports with friends and family as they do not themselves own nor participate with sporting guns. Banal civil servants in the apparatus of the State, failing to uphold diversity, equity and inclusion, failing to bring the moral, ethical and intellectual standards of conduct they uphold only in their private life towards themselves, family and friends, failing to bring these same standards in full into their working life, treating sporting gun licence holders, their paying clients, offering them only negativity, oppression and persecution over decades of disrespectful prohibitive legislation upon the wrong path since 1968, again in 1989 and again in 1997, with unjust and illogical prohibitions of types of sporting guns by Acts of Parliament, prohibiting honourable Olympic disciplines in target sports. Over controlling pejorative prohibitions of types of sporting guns, setting the U.K. mainland apart from freedoms enshrined with correctly licensed sporting guns in Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands, the entirety of Europe and the Free World. A deep level of Shame on The Home Office Personnel in London, ruining the tolerance, freedom and liberties which the U.K. is supposed to epitomise and enshrine on a global stage.

its unlikely that you'd get one to be honest if you were suicidal... if you like though you could get a family member to hold guns under their licence instead and you can use them. or you could do some cash in hand over an old paperless gun, i wouldn't recommend that, however, it goes to show the lengths people will go to to get around the law if it segregates them. Regulate not ban is my opinion. you're probably fine now and not a risk since you sought help, imagine if someone didn't because they new it would cost them their licence, it just discourages seeking help rather than firearms ownership itself. Your comments makes zero sense 😂. You can’t demand that people surrender firearms when they are legally owned and held. It also doesn’t state that in the video but you can and are within your rights to refused surrending your firearms. It’s not always the best choice but legally if there’s no evidence to support the claim from the attending officers then you are within your legal right to say “once evidence that confirms your claim is presented I am happy to surrender as per the licence rules and regulations”

1. Scrap the ludicrous situation of having individual police constabularies. We need a National Police Force. The cost savings across the whole nation would be MASSIVE allowing more money in the whole pot to be spent properly. Standardisation of methods, equipment and training would all improve and save money. 2. Take all firearms licencing issues away from the police and instigate a National Licencing Authority that applies a single, fair and equal standard of administration across the entire nation. 3. Make all certificates 10 years with medical and social markers to monitor individuals. 4. Ensure one price, fairly worked out, where all inclusive costs for medical assessment are standardised across the whole country. Put an end to the insane post code lottery of doctors charging whatever they like or even refusing to be a part of the system. How can this country be so backward and out dated? It's like a compulsion for politicians and chief constables, to be as inefficient as they possibly can. And while we are at it, when will those responsible for signing off on the Devon and Cornwall tragedy appear in court to be prosecuted under the law for their gross misconduct and negligence? It is extraordinary that such total madness has never been publicly addressed. Shocking.

I hunt with sub 12ft lb air rifles and I believe its not powerful enough for hunting, i would want a license for slightly more power, maybe double the current legal limit would suffice for my needs of putting food on the table, im 55 and using sub 12 is difficult and can leave an animal wounded if not a good shot EVERY shot, i would only need it for hunting food so for humane reasons more power for hunting needed..! Is there such a license?
@lcc8394
@lcc8394 9 месяцев назад
tbh if your not killing with one shot with an air rifle you wont instantly become a 'marksman' with a fac rifle, you'll never get a fac with that reasoning as you'll still leave the animal wounded if you mis the kill shots .
@OliCM3

If you're not a professional stalker/pest controller or landowner with a necessity to control pests, you've not got a good enough official reason for an FAC... However, if you are lucky enough have an FEO with a bit of humility, you might get an air gun as they are relatively low risk. You will need a better reason though as claiming you need a more powerful gun to compensate for poor accuracy is a classic school boy error that sees countless applicants rejected.

@@OliCM3 FAC....depends where you live tbh.....if your in a rural area with lots of pheasants shoots ect then you stand a chance of gaining a fac....also there the clay pigeon shooting side of it which has become huge with under 25's in the uk and with females....uk has a outstanding record when it comes to clay shooting and 'they' will never bring the total ban hammer down on that (a lot of people that shot are also the same people that own land and contribute to the political parties....King Charles goes to the shoot that is local to where i live and has done for years..field sports are ingrained in our social life/activates we just need to correct reasoning to access them)

Getting a license in the UK seems so pointless for what you get as a result. The PDs are so slow processing applications, which they can throw out for the tiniest of reasons. If somehow you do get through the system what can you own? That’s right, the most uninteresting types of firearms, double barrels, .22s and bolt actions.
@OliCM3
@OliCM3 9 месяцев назад
Guns are only allowed to be used for target sport or killing permitted animals. Guns with the potential to be concealed and/or overwhelm authorities are deemed unnecessary risk given the legal reasons for owning them. As a result, gun crime in the UK barely shows up as a single pixel on a graph compared to America.

@@OliCM3 that’s exactly the mindset which will allow the government to ban shooting sports outright, they’re already making moves against it in Wales and Scotland, when labour win the general election next year they’ll start cracking down in England too. Guns are not sporting implements, first and foremost they are tools for self protection. With regards to statistics, what about European countries like Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic where you can own, or even just go to a public shooting range and learn practical shooting and handle real calibers and semi automatic weapons? They have much lower gun crime than the USA and didn’t make shooting into a boring, restricted pastime for Fudds in the countryside only. Even in France and Germany you can shoot a proper rifle and not a pissy .22 or straight pull bastardisation.

@@FloppaFan400 Not really, I'm a shooting enthusiast and will defend my right to own a gun with everything I've got! Guns are as diverse as cars, the ones we British are permitted to own are absolutely sporting implements. You can get .22 in semi auto and just about every calibre up to .50, you just need a good reason for owning it. Those countries are only slightly more lenient than Britain, but still incomparably strict compared to America. If every football hooligan, gypsy, moped thief and gang member in the UK had the right to 'defend themselves' with a gun, the police would need more funds than the NHS to keep up
@FloppaFan400
@FloppaFan400 9 месяцев назад
@@OliCM3under the British legal system you don’t have a right, you have a state given privilege which the government can take away from you at any moment. As a counter argument to your car analogy, wanting to shoot but living in the UK is like wanting to race cars but imagine if you lived somewhere where the only cars available were Toyota Prius, Nissan leafs, electric Chinese MGs and smart cars, no Mercedes, BMWs, Bentleys etc. In countries with more sensible gun legislation, .22s are only used for hunting small game or introducing children to shooting. But in the UK it’s the absolute apex, it’s a joke dude. The other European countries are light years ahead of the UK when it comes to shooting, unless you can prove me wrong and show me a range in the UK where you can fire a 9mm handgun and a real 5.56mm AR-15, I won’t believe you when you say Europe is “barely more lenient” than the UK. Of course gypsies and roadmen shouldn’t own guns but a sizeable portion of them do anyway since they don’t care at all about the law. But what about law abiding citizens, with no history of violence, why should they be disarmed subjects? Why should their only option be crappy British sport shooting? You’d have a much bigger and more robust community if you were less niche, elitist and downright unwelcoming to new people who want to shoot but aren’t interested in .22 or double barrel shotguns. Also if your local PD see the first sentence you wrote you’ll be lucky if they don’t take your certificates away. From my understanding if they get the slightest inkling that you’re prepared to defend yourself or your rights then kiss your paltry gun collection goodbye.

@@FloppaFan400 The vast majority of British people like it that way, and that's the way it should be. You're just butthurt because you can't get the excessive guns you see on action movies... What do you need an AR-15 or a 9mm hand gun for!? Spending a fortune on puncturing a strung up piece of paper? Sounds great. Don't knock clay sports, game shooting, animal stalking or even a bit of pest control - all of which are what the UK legal guns are designed for. They're great sports to get into and just because you don't like it, doesn't make them worthless. You keep going on about .22 like its the biggest calibre you can get over here... It's not, it’s the simply most popular because it's the most affordable, as it is all over the world. When I said I'd do anything to defend my rights I meant investing all my spare time and money to fight the powers that be legally. I'd never dream of even threatening to use a gun for anything other than what they're intended for. Even if someone broke into my house, opening up that cabinet would be the last thing on my mind.
