'A GAME OF THREE THIRDS!' | Crystal Palace 0-1 Liverpool reaction
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League as they battled to a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace.
Diogo Jota's first-half goal ensured Arne Slot's men go into the second international break of the season top of the pile.
And Reds reporter David Lynch was impressed by the different qualities they showed in claiming three points at Selhurst Park.
He hails a strong defensive unit for their contribution to another important clean sheet, and a young goalkeeper thrown into the mix late on.

First half good . Gave away too much possession & chances during the second . Against better teams it would of been costly . Need 2 midfield signings in January ; squad looks a bit thin considering the ridiculous # of games over the next three months .

Good things and not so good things on display today. Good was general control of the game, our closing down/pressing/work rate and the chances created (but not finished by Jota). Bad things were Salah's horrendous final ball, constantly tripping over his feet, failure to take advantage of 1:1 situations etc, and the chances we gave them in the 2nd half when he started looking nervy. I would have brough Endo on earlier.

Control and clean sheets are wonderful signs for the future. After playing late Wednesday and playing early Saturday away, it's probably better to have a close, locked-down 1-0 victory than an out-of-control basketball game---better for preventing injuries (though we still lost Alisson 😢).

I was at the game today and here are my thoughts - VVD is a Rolls Royce say no more - Allison is the best goalkeeper in the world but his Achilles heel is his body I’m afraid!!! When he gets injured, it’s never a knock!!! It’s alway 8 to 10 games or more. It’s really frustrating! - 0-1 thank you very much and let’s get back on the bus and go back to Merseyside! It was a nail biting last 25mins - Hughes coming in at half time and Ally off tipped the balance in midfield to them and Hughes was way better that Wharton! - Jota is a fox in the box, great finish!! Top of the table but here comes the real test with Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton and Villa coming up!!!

Relief that we got 3 points. We were wasteful on a few occasions, thank goodness it didn’t come back to bite us. Possession and XG don’t count for anything, if we can’t score goals. 🙏

Diogo had to kill it off, and at times overplayed it otherwise great. I think last year this would have been a draw, no disrespect to Kloppo and the ref was weird.

Spot On. TsmiPass was pivotal today, especially for beating their press formation. Understand concern about lack of goals, but most teams are playing us really low. Well except ManU lol. Love your analysis. VVD always my hero. Defense was the name of the game today. That's okay - but stressful. OK, controversial, but do we win that game under Klopp?? Not so sure. Enjoying the past but living in the present. Does it not seem that Slot is coaching the players up,, that the players individually are getting better, besides the tactics??

It's becoming a theme is our solidity/dominance innit? I still find it a bit strange, not being sat after a match saying, "PHEW!!" instead of learning to bet used/accustomed to it. Totally agree with your praise of the backline. They were all really really solid. Jaros did a job, he was also really impressive in pre-season I thought. Shout out to Endo. Players like Mané or Salah would have felt humiliated to come in for 5min. and might have played accordingly. Endo played for real. I like that shy but honest character of asian guys. Superior to much what Europe & America can offer in terms of work ethic.

I am filled with hope and optimism, but it is tinged with concern for how easy the schedule has been so far. With a few minor exceptions. If we can get through the next couple of months while maintaining our defensive record and win rate, then we have Slot's Paisley to Klopp's Shankly. If that comes to pass we have a fantastic ten years ahead of us, really fantastic. But, that schedule…

The first 60 minutes were sublime. The best football we played. We just didn’t finish our dinner when we had the chance to. If we are to beat the big teams after the international break we need to finish better but I am confident we will be fine

We also just look so defensively solid which is always good. That gives us the ability to not be at our best and grind wins out which is important for games like Arsenal and man city 🤷🏽‍♂️

Agree on Tsimikas today. I am usually very critical of him, but have to give the lad credit for a good performance, and a great pass for the first goa;. He go a bit lucky with the handball pen appeal - I thought it was the correct decision, but we have seen them given.

I don't know if I want to hug Jotta or strangle him. How has Jotta not got a hat trick today? Jotta is our best finisher and he is usually so clinical but those two chances, from Gravenberch and Trent, should have been finished NO excuses !!!! These are the types of games that have cost us titles in the past, especially in 2019 and 2022 when we ended up with silly draws when we should have won games. I hope these guys don't make that mistake this season. You need to kill off games when you are on top.

If Diogo scored another goal in the 1st half, it could have remained an easy match against Crystal Palace. LFC does need to get a better CF than Darwin and an excellent substitute for Gravenberch. So, I hope rumours are true and that LFC will sign Tchouaméni and Rodrigo from Real Madrid.

A Solid and controlled performance...yes we wd like to have one to two more goals but its not always a given..a word on the referee and OMG he was a shitshow...I've never seen Slot so animated on the touchline with the ref before!

Good result against a pretty toothless Palace. I’ve just been watching the highlights from St. Etiene and I thought it today watching the game…who’s capable of scoring from outside the box? 2 attempts off target could be improved upon in these type games. The lack of more goals in so many games is a big problem. It is not just in this game. We've come so close to throwing it away because of the lack of goals. This is going to be a problem when we play against better teams. They really need improvement in this area. We also need to sign more better backup/rotation players. If our main players are injured our current backup are not on the same level and we will have problems against better teams. Hope Alisson and Macca are not too badly injured. Going to be a problem for games after the international break if they are.
