I just watched a 6 minute ad for booze. Well played.

This is what advertising should be like. No flashy, loud, shallow videos trying to grab your attention

Does anyone else think Jude would make an excellent James Bond ?

Although this was years ago, this is probably the coolest commercial I've ever seen. Elegant, but playful.

I can’t believe I spent 6 minutes watching an ad with 2 rich guys drink corporate flagship whiskey, line dancing, and making wagers over priceless objects. it was pretty cool though

They use the boat as a prize to improve each other's life by having them perform tasks they otherwise wouldn't have been able to pull off. Brilliant.

Plot twist: They are actually co-owners of the boat already. This is just a game they play.

So that's what rich men do when they're bored..

This is clear evidence of the profit margin in selling whiskey.

I always appreciate when a company has the wherewithal to fund something so original and whimsical, that was neat

If more ads were like this, I'd actually enjoy watching them.

I just want to know how this got sold to the client. "Okay we're gonna take Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini to the BVA... no stay with me the bottle will be in 30% of the shots!" Masterful.

That shot of Jude Law at 5:39, slightly quizzical brow, with one eye fully revealed - but barely - over the top of the sunglasses, and the other half-hidden by them, and in just a little less light, is perfection. It speaks to the brilliance of Law, the director and the DOP, lighting and probably the editor and the colourist.

There is an elegance to this that I wish more ads would use!

1:15 Boat first had Italian flag and afterwards it was changed to British. 5:23 They actually honored the wager.

I was rehearsing a show for Wilton's Music Hall in 2014, when this was shot, and we had to decamp to another rehearsal space for the week. I guess the ir rental fee more or less underwrote our entire budget! Greeting to the amazing (truly amazing) Frances Mayhew, the then artististic director, and saviour of this truly (truly) astonishing venue.

They're just gonna keep trading this boat back and forth, aren't they?

Ahhhhh, such character and personality, blending and fitting in well that makes a man, a gentleman. This is not an ad, this is man science. 👍

I just watched a six and a half minute commercial and I'm wishing it was 13 so I could see what his story was. And it STILL beats the hell out of all the damned ads youtube keeps crowbarring into every damned video.

Gotta love the pairing of Jude Law and Giancarlo Giannini. Great chemistry. They could have used Daniel Craig instead of Jude if it had been a Heineken film...

Have just watched this 5.5 years old promo-video and loved it! Both combination of true English and stylish Italian awesome. Jude Law won this first of all by his super-attitude!

It's all in the telling of the tale, and this one is excellent.

Neither of these men own the boat, or at least not for very long, it is not what they want. They gladly pass the vessel between themselves, simply for the fun, enlightenment and adventure they can attain from each other's creative prowess. The boat, for the men that have everything, is simply a metaphor for their journey of abandon and fulfilment...…

Watching this in 2021 and think it is by far the best Advertisement I have ever seen!!!!!!! Brilliant in the fact it's not selling the product (outright) it is selling a fun lifestyle that is enjoyed by the gentlemen while imbibing in luxurious golden whiskey.

I have been rewatching this ad for a few years now because of its calming aesthetic and great actor, but I have only just noticed: At 4:12 there is another Jude Law in the band playing a saxophone and wearing a hat and a suit. This is just a little homage to his character- Dickie Greenleaf from The Talented Mr Ripley, who also wore the same exact outfit and played a saxophone in the movie scene in the jazz club

As cool as Jude Law is, he would have just looked silly if it wasn't for the 12 hot chicks dancing with him.

Now that is a good ad. Nothing so vulgar as money, a unique thing for a unique thing.
