lol this is a deep film that actually makes you think. Not the regular fast food film we feed our brains with. This is one of those meals that makes you remember;)
wow. this trailer is not at all what the film is like. not at all. its one of the most beautiful films i've seen in a long time. its far far quieter than this trailer...but i guess they're fishin for viewers. & i love casey affleck. he's an actor, man, & floats around under a sheet for all but a few moments. i love & respect that. this is beautiful film. ( & the ending couldnt have been more perfekt for me) a poem. i'd be very fckng proud of it, had i made this film. bravo guys.
Watched this with an open mind Little did I know it was about how I felt after my life partners death last year. Whats more we are both Buddhist and the themes of time and grief and almost reincarnation are strong and deeply touching. The most profound film I've seen in years for me personally. Its most terrifying when the ghost is in a future cityscape - the music is haunting and moving.
Thank goodness for small mindedness. You make wonderful examples for the rest of us. The sheet does exactly what it needs to do. Simply stated, anchors the fact that the protagonist is dead. I never realized until seeing this film how distracting and depreciating special effects or unwarranted visuals can be from the most fundamental component of enjoying a well presented flick, that is, simple, astute observation. More important than "What is he (the ghost) thinking?" is what WE (I) are thinking. Deeply personal and moving experience. Terrific.
Thanks to Netflix I finally watched this and... It is now in my top five favorite movies. I’m in love with the saddest movies. Romantic misery hits me harder than anything and like the critics said, the movie is just so profound. A true work of love about love through time for us to love for all of time.
Deep for a blanket with eye holes. 👁 I haven't seen this but other a24 movies have been brilliant especially the florida project and the lighthouse, midsommar was insanely odd but it kind of worked hereditary is also very good and the witch.
interesting, so i guess it's a drama story from the prespective of a ghost, but with less horror, the premis is like what if ghost was real, and that ghost is a spirit of some one who died and couldn't move on because that person was tied deeply with someone/someplace/some thing, but that ghost does not really bothering to the level of scaring people a lot, the ghost just there watching, as the time goes by, watching,,, and just couldn't do anything... now that's a sad ghost
Roadie TV, I'm glad u mentioned this, cuz the general masses hav such a terrible judgement about films nowadays. They have been brainwashed by the mainstream media; so much so that they cannot differentiate between Classic/ Indie/ Underground or utter regurgitated mainstream garbage that's more in fashion these days. Sadly, peeps prefer the latter only cuz it's popular. Geez!
For some reason, it hit me hard when I realized the other ghost had a flower pattern on their sheet- it just made it seem so personal and made me wonder who that ghost could have been. Though I did wonder how he was able to go from the hospital to the house but got stuck in that location after that
Haven't seen this movie yet but i love the fact that the ghost is ACTUALLY dressed as a sheet ghost. Makes it that much more intriguing to watch. I was a sheet ghost for Halloween a few years back and i loved it, and so did everyone else. A classic will always be a classic
There’s bad reviews then there’s good reviews, Your opinion on this movie will depend on your view on life. I watched this movie about two years ago and I still think about it ‘till this day... for me, it’s truly heartbreaking.
A significant film which I identified. I loved and lost and you can die waiting if your not careful if they don't for whatever reasons can't love you back don't give up the ghost
This got me because I used to move all the time as a kid and I had a friend called "Ghosty" that was just made out of a pillow case and electrical tape
This is a very unique film and I liked it very much. The strange style the story is told in makes this movie very interesting. I was was not sure of what to make of it at first then I understood it towards the end. The story is well written and the actors are great. I love the fact that the ghost is just someone under a sheet not no high tech CGI just casual. This is a must see. If you have not seen this movie then I recommend you do rating 5/5
My wife thought this was an SNL skit because she loves Caseys Dinkin donuts skit so much. A meditative poem about the enormity of time in a Massachusetts accent lol
I get why people would call this "deep", and really the concept is nice, but the movie drags so much. There's a lot of unnecessarily long scenes where absolutely nothing is happening, it's like it tries to compensate for the lack of story. But as I said the concept of the movie is ok.
When I first saw the trailer on Netflix, I thought, what the heck kind of movie is this, someone running around in a bedsheet?, but I decided to watch it, knowing I could just stop it anytime. I couldn't not keep watching it. This is a very sad ghost who witnessed a lot of loneliness and sadness on that property, from pioneer times to his own life as a human (both lovers seemed to be very unhappy people). The long scenes of basically nothing much happening show the pain of time passing by in sadness. Notice the only time he threw a tantrum was when the single mom and her kids were making a life for themselves in that house! But this is a thinking person's movie, and it's done its job in making people think. Even the cut out eyes of the ghost are so sad looking!!! Of course, you could watch current horror today with the same tired formulas that don't even scare you anymore. What I don't understand about the movie is this: If the ghost is the dead musician, who was the ghost who made the noise with the piano when the two lovers were in bed, and when he said they could leave? I know the ghost time traveled and even witnessed himself as actually alive, but....HELP! me with that answer. I think this is more a movie about moving on from loss for those of us who are still alive.
I may be misunderstanding your question but to answer it, you follow the same ghost throughout the film. The one that sits on the piano is the same ghost. The story is a loop (which explains the rounded aspect ratio). The ghost goes to where the future ends, then returns to the beginning of his ancestor's lives, and comes full circle when he meets the other ghost.
its the same ghost ( the musician ghost) in his world, it will be over and over again. if you believe in ghost existence, the spirit will re enact everything before their death and how they die. in the movie he stays because perhaps he has still unfinished business in this world or his gf still cant let him go. and the last scene, the paper.. perhaps.. the woman already let him go. so he finally dissapear.
The same guy is haunting himself. He attacks the family because they are alive and happy. He didn't participate in life when he was alive. I have no idea why anyone likes the movie. Boring 😴 fest.
WOW Rooney Mara is here!!! This is a very weird movie. It starts very slow and you don't really understand why, but as the movie goes you realize that it is not only about mourning, it is also about human existence and genuine love. Watched it using my boxxy software and got much pleasure.
It's being aired atm on local channel, I missed the beginning but scene where where ghost's home is destroyed and they get to see new stuff build and them wandering around. There is something in this. How can you make movie about ghost in traditionally dressed in sheet but this just works, the little spook gets all my sympathies and I'm adoring this movie.
Been on the marvel thing recently... needed a break. Thought about justice leage but decided for something a little more like this. Thanks for the movie, it was a refreshing break from the mainstream bs.
he's everywhere in time, as in the past as in the future. He was seeking for his release, he was attached to the woman, but then she left and left a note which was the last thing left that was realated to her. It was a a key for him to go free, to ease his pain. And so he was trying to get it but just kept getting interrupted, and so he went trough time waiting for that moment when he will be able to free himself. P.S. The ending was also bit confusing for me, but then it kinda got me thinking, maybe he was able to somehow cross parralel universes but same times ? idk it's tricky. because appearantly he got that note alot easier, which probably means she didn't paint over the crack ?.... smh.. anyway it's a fantastic movie, puts you into thinking ''why/how?''.
Mr. No brains I assume it is because he tries to kill himself (as the ghost) and maybe that sends himself back in time? Maybe shows the history of the house ?
Credited Casey Affleck in the title when its really Rooney Mara's film, she's in almost every scene in the trailer. Patriarchal influences are everywhere.
I watched this film 2 weeks ago and I still keep on thinking about that note , I would 100% recommend this film its a drag at the start but It all makes sense and I never thought I would feel sorry for a sheet
This movie have/had successfully made me question my critics about movies experiment and experience. Do I like it? Nah. Do I hate it though? Neirher. Do I have a feeling about it? Definitely. Is it good? Bad? Do I have to say or think something about it? I it art or a bluff? Just : Is it? What lies of this "movie" is... Well. Just glad to saw it.
Trailer looks good, but this film is boring as hell, the scenes go for way too long, she sits eating a pie alone for like 3 minutes, and it's constantly just him staring at mundane stuff for way too long.
winston smith I know that you're trying really hard to troll, and that you need attention online because you're insecure and scared in regular life. And, that what you listed was two items; not one.
I must digress from the typical reviews shown here. This movie feels very self-important, leading the audience to buy into its importance. Don't get me wrong. I wasn't searching for Fast and the Furious part 27 or whatever, but 2 hours of mostly silent tableaus got old quickly. I cannot recommend this movie. The pacing is too lethargic and self-important scenes made this a difficult film to watch. 2/5 stars
"Hey, Dave, want to make a movie?" "Sure, Carl, what kind of budget do we have?" (Dave digs into his pocket and pulls out some change, a half-chewed sunflower shell, and a bit of string) "Looks like three dollars and fifty cents." "Well that sucks." "Yeah, but I have an idea, you will wear this sheet over your head, we'll cut out some holes for eyes and you'll be a spooky ghost. We can also shoot the entire film in my backyard and in the exact same room for every scene." "That's lame as fuck." "Yeah, but dumbasses will call it art." And that's how this movie was made.
Just watched the girl eat a pie on the floor for 15 fucking minutes while the guy stands in the background dressed as a ghost, if you like pointless scenes where nothing happens with no dialogue for 10+ minutes of a still frame this your fucking film, if you like movies that are pointless and are like a joke with no punchline here it is. Otherwise this movie is a fucking hipster dumperfire. PS after watching her eat the pie she fucking throws up, what a fucking cinematic masterpiece. The only ppl who like this movie shop at whole foods.
