Yep - higher res and better contrast definition- I'd guess a new camera although video processing obviously has a huge impact - thst video shutter speed variability is cool, never seen that and never knew plasmas scanned like CRT - is it progressive or interlaced?

@@John-we7jx no same camera I just figured I would kick it into prorez which is 50mbits vs the normal 28 I shoot in. The 28mbits is avchd and prorez is full h.264 mp4. Processing time is longer and the files are much bigger. I also had the camera at 180 shutter speed. I exported it also at 50mbits as opposed to the 25 i normally use just to see if it made a difference on the RU-vid side after they did their processing. Its s Sony FDRAX53 which is a 4k camera

what was annoying was that the tv system was so standardized for so many years. We only had analogue picture input, although we got DVDs and other digital things. component input is the worst picture signal except rf antenna input. We did not get the picture quality that DVD had
@12voltvids
@12voltvids Год назад
DVD actually didn't have that great or picture. It had the capability of a good picture if the encoder was wide open and a dual layer disk was used. This is because 4.7g is good for only 60 minutes. But hollyweed wants to shove a bunch of crap that you are never going to watch like trailers for a dozen movies and then the directors commentary and a half dozen languages and subtitles and a bunch or bonus crap that never gets watched. Then they want to put it all on a single layer disk to they can give you both the 4:3 and 16:9 on the same disk. And you wonder why it looked like crap. Laserdisk looked superrior to the vast majority of DVDs. Component and s video only did one thing to slightly improve picture and that was get rid of the dot crawl when the video frequency approached 3.57954583 MHz the frequency of the color subcarrier. Above and below the color carrier was fine. Sony had a 3d comb filter on many sets that eliminated the dot crawl and made a composite input look every bit as good as svideo and component by notching out just the interfering signal that caused the crosstalk and then putting it back in after seperation. I have a crt set that has it and it looks fantastic.

Every one the benches were piled high with tools, parts, chassis under repair. They all looked like a bomb went off in there. That's just the way it was. When you are busy you don't have time to cnstabtky do you have between each job. That's seen as unproductive time. Infact at the shop I was at for 19 years the only time the place was spotless was in the last year I was there and that's because the work has slowed down so much thanks to people passing their old equipment and replacing it that I had lots of spare time on my hands to sweep the floor 2 or 3 times a day. Everything was spotless the bench was empty waiting for something to come in. I treat my home shop the same way, what I'm busy I don't have time to clean up after every job, at what I'm not busy I've always got something else to do that's more important than clean the bench.

@@Watcher3223 Seeing the hexagon (honeycomb) shapes in that crossbar would also seem to indicate it's Pioneer made. Unless Pioneer wasn't the only one to do that.
@Watcher3223
@Watcher3223 Год назад
@@purpleghost4083 I've seen plenty of Pioneer players. Just by seeing the insides, this one is definitely a Pioneer, similar to, if not an exact clone of, the CLD-S201. And Pioneer was pretty much the only company that designed their combi-players with separate LD and CD trays within one tray assembly, starting in the early 1990s. And Pioneer was also, more or less, the only company to impress honeycomb patterns into the chassis of their components, the idea being that the geometric impressions would help to eliminate unwanted chassis resonance.

Dave, I basically understand how a dvd disc works but does the laser disc have a similar burnt information on the disc? I'm puzzle on how the information is layout on the disc.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 11 месяцев назад
Laserdisk was what started it all. CD and DVD are based on the same principal except that laserdisk is analog. The analog video is FM modulated and that FM carrier is represented as a farting length cut pattern that is stamped into the disk. The laser reads the disk and the resulting waveform is read out. Think if it as reflect and frequency goes up no reflect and frequency goes down. That's how FM works. The closer the lands and pits the higher the frequency and the further apart the lower. Think of it as turning a light switch on and off. You can turn it on and off slowly or quickly. That's how the laser is read. It is more represented as pwm but then pwm and FM are closely related except that own uses a constant carrier frequency and just the duty cycle changes. (class D amplifier is a perfect example) and fm the frequency changes hence the longer and shorter pit / land lengths.

@12voltvids
@12voltvids Год назад
Laserdisk had 2 PCM audio channels with CD quality sound. They also had analog audio that was FM modulated and companded using a system similar to what VHS hifi used and CX noise reduction. Some had stereo analog audio and others just mono. Laserdisk specs is they all had to be compatible so there were different ways to utilize the sound tracks. Some had discrete stereo, others had a matric L+R on one and L_R on the other for the analog. Some had a mono sound track on one and a second language on the other and still others had a mono sound track and Dolby AC3 RF on the other that when connected to an AC3 adapter could be connected to a stereo and get 5.1. I have a fair collection of laser movies and more concerts that were released as that was the only format they were released on. I really don't use the player much however as I am not one to watch movies over and over again. In the box of movies I was given there are 2 titles that just from the title you know what is on the disk. Must be a parody on Miami Vice. Called Miami Spice! Have never watched it, and as soon as I pulled those 2 titles out of the box they instantly went to the storage locker. I figure they might be worth allot of money some day.

@12voltvids
@12voltvids Год назад
Laserdisk was a composite format. Some companies put a cheap comb filter in to give an svideo out but it did nothing. The Luna and chroma signals were already mixed. Svideo only was needed for material that had never been on composite form. Ie hi8 or svhs camera where the processing had always been in the component domain. DVD was the first to utilize svideo and component outputs but it made very little difference because the master tapes for most DVD originated from 1" tape which was a composite format. Once they started mastering films on DBC (digital BETACAM) they moved into the component world.
