Every breeder should listen very carefully to the comments by the Director of the King Abdullah Arabian horse stud and take heed. The concentration on breeding horses for the halter classes is leading to a breed that will lose its whole reason for being - a riding horse with mammoth endurance. The Arab horse was for riding and that is on what it should be judged not how pretty it looks on the end of a halter.

@@aliaalija4788 I agree that perfection does not exist and please forgive me if I have misinterpreted your comment. The current breeding trend of emphasising certain traits, such as an extreme dished face, at the expense of those that made the breed what a magnificent riding horse with superb stamina the Arab breed exhibited will ruin the breed. Look at the images around 11:30 of what is called "English Pleasure" and cry. It has been described as neither English or pleasure and thankfully the only country that has the class is the USA. It is a travesty of all that the Arab breed stands for.

Thank you for sharing this and reminding me of what I’ve known as a child. I fell in love with the Arabian horse breed, and I still draw and paint them, but looks aren’t everything, what really matters is the endurance and heart which makes the Arabian so much sought after, including its intelligence, and helping other breeds excel with their offspring being stronger than before. In my teens I rode a half Arabian/Morgan cross, it was the best riding horse I ever rode, not only did it look Arabian, but also it was intelligent and had a rocking chair lope which I loved. He was 7 years old. Even though it wasn’t my horse, it was a rental riding club horse, this horse became special to me. I fell in love with it and rode it many times. It would come up to me whenever I showed up to ride it. We had connected as rider and horse should be. Over time though, its spirit and lope was broken, not only by too many uncaring and thoughtless abusive riders, but also by a life of abusive and negligence from its owner as well. I was very heartbroken and cried when I heard it died in the mountains and that it had run off when they were rounding up the horses. I had known how unhappy it was and only needed someone to love and appreciate him for himself. I will always remember him and still miss him.

Arabian horses is our pride of golden age of Islam.
@EmeraldJade66
@EmeraldJade66 3 года назад
Zeshan W ... Why bring Islam into the picture? What does that have to do with the horses themselves? Sure they were used during all kinds of wars religious or not in the middle east as well as for many other things albeit work, trave, etc.. etc... Horses have been around for thousands of years not just Arabians but all kinds and you don't hear Christians relating the two together when they speak of horses. We take pride in our horses as well even an old farm work horse but we don't say in the same sentence ... Our old farm work horses is our pride of the Golen Age of Christianity. Arabians are beautiful and so are Thoroughbreds as well as the Tennessee Walker just to name a few. By all means and all due respect, please don't place "religion" in the mix. There's many things Arabs and Arabians whether it be man or animal can't do compared to other cultures and the animal world through out the world. Sometimes I get the impression from the many Arab people I've talked to, known and see on tv and in videos, they think they are the most supreme on this earth in anything and everything. Uh ... not in my book sorry. With all said, of course you have a right to your opinion and I have a right to mine which I just gave. Just couldn't understand the connection in your comment. Peace and Love to all.

@@EmeraldJade66 Because Islam and Arabian horses are a very, very big part of Arab culture and it is ingrained in our hearts. The most sought after type, the pure Arabians known as الخمسة حصان, originating from Prophet Muhammed ﷺ five most loyal horses. Modern real Arabians can trace back their bloodlines back to these horses, documented by Bedouins for centuries. The Arabian horse is a part of our culture, so don't try to disrespect us. These horses have been bred to live alongside, sleep alongside the Arab Bedouins in the desert (aka my people). These horses are bred to live in the desert alongside humans, living with us ever since they were a baby, sleeping alongside the women and children. Sad to see them locked in a small stable in the west not riding free in the desert where they belong.
@aseeal96
@aseeal96 3 года назад
@Mel Hawk thank you! they are absolutely superb! very intelligent and loyal friends. The Arabs refer to them metaphorically when they speak about their power and intelligence, and our camels referring to patience and jealousy. I hope you visit our great kingdom, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia and experience these horses in the land they are originally from! it would be a lifetime adventure!

They were the hardiest and most beautiful horses in the world! Some still are! Too bad most show breeders don't follow the history and keep them as they should be! The horse and all horses need to be; riding horses with the heart, hooves and legs of steel and the strength and endurance to survive for days in harsh situations! The true Arabian is still a stronger long lasting riding horse after all these years against other breeds! IMO That being said - At 37: 23- 37: 00 This man states that American Arabians are in his opinion a very refined halter show horse with long swooning necks and beautiful heads. American stallions look very feminine compared to the stallions in Europe that are bred for correctness of carriage while the middle east is going for both types.

Curious how it appears today's horse breeders seem to be breeding the Arabian to make it resemble early paintings and drawings of the breed. I hope someone points out to them that artists' renderings are NOT always naturalistic, but such renderings are ALWAYS stylistic. Bizarre to think that this would happen: That some artist's "interpretation" of the animal he was looking at would become a reality in flesh two hundred years later! I am certainly glad the same has not happened in the breeding of domestic house cats, because the renderings of them two hundred plus years ago was mostly crude and incompetent, and today's cats would be an ugly bunch if breeders followed the lead of those early artists' renderings of cats! Overall I found this a disturbing film, showing how colonialism's pressure causing the fall of the Ottoman Empire would result in the near loss of one of the region's cultural treasures -- the exquisite desert icon of the "Arabian" horse.
