I cranked up the Super 109 to setting 9, but kind of applied negative pressure, haha. Then I lowered it for the rest of the shave. This was also my first time using any Van Yulay shaving products and I was pretty impressed.

I actually managed to find a birth quarter razor! I was super happy about that. Feels weird to be shaving with something that's 53 years old though.

Great shave. The Superadjustable is my favorite performer. I put it on 7 and always get a smooth, comfortable, close shave. (I always heard to keep it open while making adjustments).

Hey David, I did a little digging and found conflicting info. Old Gillette packaging says to close the doors, do the final quarter-turn to lock, and *then* adjust. But many other resources suggest at least leaving the doors loose. I don't know which is best!

Hello! I'm new to the channel. I was searching for Van Yulay and your video came up. I enjoyed the video so I subscribed and am looking forward to more. I have that razor and have never quite had a great shave with it. I know the Gillette adjustables are much revered but I just can't seem to figure them out. I get great shaves with other adjustables like the Merkur Progress, Yaqi Final Cut, and Parker Variant. Oh well. I'll keep trying. Thanks for the video! -Eric

That first pass is the lightest pressure I've seen you use. I just picked up a Super Adjustable, and noticed that I felt like I was using a lighter touch than with my Slim Adjustable. I think it's because of how light it is. What do you think about the weight in relation to how much pressure you instinctively use?

Hey Lee, thank you! I appreciate that... using too much pressure has been a bad habit of mine for a long time. I'm not sure that the weight of a razor affects my shaving in that way, to be honest. In this case, it was mostly me exercising extra care because that "9" on the dial is sort of intimidating! That kind of thing seems to affect my pressure more than anything else.
