I'm Billy. I'm 54 years old, have sensitive skin, and like being clean-shaven... but I lived as a scruffian for decades. I hated shaving so much that I'd let stubble grow in for weeks at a time and then mow it all down with a clipper. I hated it, but at least I didn't get serious irritation or in-grown hairs.
Then one day, the clouds parted. A chorus of voices boomed down from the heavens. The Lords of Shaving said unto me: "One blade. No pressure. Quality lather. Deft hand. Be smart. This is the way."
I'm a simple man. When something like that happens, I pay attention. That's how I discovered that safety razors aren't that difficult to use and they help or solve all my shaving problems.
And somehow, this basic daily chore became enjoyable. Then it became a hobby. And then I created this channel... not because I'm an expert that can teach people my ways, but because doing this helps me learn more (and faster).
I just got my razor and did my first shave with it. I got more touch on my face than I have with any other type of razor, but this is my first safety razor and I think the reason is because I was putting too much pressure as if it were a cartridge.
I have this razor and it chewed up my face, tried different blades in the arsenal. I figured out the blade sticks beyond the blade gap, at that point i might as well use a straight edge razor
Got one of these, cut my face up worse than the cheapest disposables. Watched this video, followed all the tips, cut my face even worse than the first time.
Yeah I just did my first shave with mine and cut up my face pretty bad, I think I might’ve been putting to much pressure on it but idk we’ll see in a couple days what happens
Just ordered some samples from Stirling and wasn't sure how to store them, out of all the videos I've found, your technique is easily the best. Better than some aluminum tin that will rust within a week or two.
Who in his right Mind puts shaving cream on the face & neck with a Shiet On? He needs to demonstrate this exactly as shown on Britain's Got Talent. Like me, the audience would be hysterical 😂😅
I just sunk a few hundred dollars getting all my wet shaving equipment. Had trouble finding complete tutorials specific to the Henson, then came across this series. Can't wait to follow the advice given and get jumped over to DE shaving.
Also I don’t get the hype around Astra blades, they are way too grabby for me. Even a Feather blade which is the sharpest blade on the market, isn’t as grabby.
Hello there! I’ve been wet-shaving since 2015 and still use the Shark Super Chromes. I prefer a milder, smooth blade and I pair them in my Tatara Muramasa (adjustable safety razor) and I always do the first pass on the highest (most aggressive) setting and then drop it down to about a 2 (low setting, more aggressive than 1). I wouldn’t worry too much about a few weepers, I can shave and get zero weepers and sometimes I get a few. Nothing some Alum can’t fix! 😎
Is it just me or is the video just a tiny bit speed up?? Or are you just very excited and energetic to use the razor?? I can't tell which of the two is the right one🤣🤣
Very good review... I have Bought it recently..But i have swithced the handle to a RazoRock Bulldog handle....What a difference... Im am waiting for my Astra blades that i ordered...I mostly use Prorazo sensitive shavecream with Prorazo pre-shave ..Another favourite is the Palmolive classic shavingcream ..I simply love it...
Thanks for this competent, helpful review. Based on this review I got the Weidi butterfly adjustable for $15 on Amazon. You were right on the mark on all points and I love the very mild to medium adjustable range. The length of the handle and grip works very well for me. I was impressed with the solid blade clamping to the 4 rising adjusters via the closing butterfly lid. A well designed and built mechanism to keep the blade exactly as set. I have poor sense of touch and poor fine motor dexterity from MS yet I can get a decent bloodless shave with this razor just above the mildest setting. Thanks again for the help!
I think I somehow broke my Yaqi and landed here. I’ll try fixing it again tomorrow but here’s my issue. The bottom part of the razor handle doesn’t unscrew at all. It kept toughening up over weeks and now it doesn’t open, it’s like fully stuck. Only the top pieces unscrew and come totally apart. Not sure if the razor is still fixable or it’s gone totally kaput.
It happened to me also. That's why I saw this video. Disassemble the razor as much as you can and use some lubricant on the bottom (e.g., WD-40). I was able to unscrew the bottom this way. Cheers.
@@barrigas2011 no luck. Mine seems fused shut. I’ve tried using wrenches, pliers and what not. I reported this to Yaqi with a video and they sent me a new razor as a replacement. Totally free of charge!
You said it before I could press “Enter” on my comment - The same advice applies to the application of shaving cream. Ease up. You shouldn’t spend more than 30 seconds it.
As of today 5th November 2023, here in Canada, buying VOSKHOD online is tough. AMAZON, TOPOF THE CHAIN and other online shaving stores are all sold out of these blades. I have also heard that Derby Extra are a decent replacement. I have ordered a few and look forward to trying them out :-) THanks for your informative vid :-)
My DERBY extra's came (THe ones I bought are in the blue and white box). I used them in both my HENSON AL13 and Rockwell 6C and I am in love. Yes, indeed the Derby's gave a smooth shave and they are nice and mild on my skin. Grateful that I have found a replacement of my VOSKHODs. cheers.
I have a thick Portuguese beard but sensitive skin. My aim is for a comfortable shave (not baby smooth), and my Henson AL13 with the Derby Extra Super Stainless (green packet) made in Turkey is a pleasure. Of course I am combining this with Proraso pre shave green,, Proraso shaving soap green and finishing with NIVEA's sensitive after shave if I am not visiting the queen or Proraso after shave balm Green or Red if I need that extra confidence to address the queen....oh wait, long live the king.
Great 👍 video ! I enjoy the Lord Platinum blades they do a good job with my face I agree with you I only do 2 passes cuz I will get irritated bad on my face !
Hey Billy Canadian too. I am all for the Mari Kondo but you obviously had an emotional connection with the razor and therefore probably should have kept it.
