My archaeologist daughter invited in the locals on the last day of the dig, so I went along. She sat on an upturned bucket, explaining what the dark and light areas meant, telling us how most digs don’t tend to find treasure like they do on tv. A few weeks later the news broke on the Shapwick Hoard - it was in the hole under her bucket.
Once again, Nicola, thank you for taking us along for the ride to Detectival. I am amazed at how friendly and helpful everyone is, and how many folks have their own RU-vid channels. Who knew?? Glad you had fun!
There's no friend like Si. He is one of a kind, a treasure in his own right. Looks like you had a great time at the gathering of like minds. Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.
From experience, I know there's nothing more thrilling than pulling gold out of the mud! That horde is a spectacular find! Well done and thanks for sharing!
Nicola! Incredible Festival very well attended. Your interviews are worth gold & silver. The shirt Simon gave you is brilliant. Glam camping makes up for sleeping on the ground or my favorite sleeping in the bed of a truck covered with a shell! A very special video. Thank you for sacrificing your hunt to share it!💖❣
Absolutely lovely finds, always something special with each turn of the trowel and spade!!! Many congratulations to Brian on his stunning gold hoard and each and everyone with there wonderful finds! Many thanks to you Nicola and sharing the journey!!! Love ya!❤️
I have a pin pointer detector. Mostly I use it to find screws and bolts that I drop in the grass. For several months I’ve been stuck at home due to illness. I love your spirit for adventure and your brain, you are very knowledgeable. Thanks from East Tennessee USA
Wow, 18 gold coins😮. What a find! Thank you for sharing these days of the Detectival Nicola, so many finds and so many people. Looked like some very good days. ❤Nicole.
Ooof, loved every moment of that, seriously good stuff. The event looked like Glasto for detectorists, excellent! Heavens, I love everything about crotal bells . . . history, shape, sound. Thank you Nicola . . . tee looks fab!!!
Thanks Nicola!! Lorenzo finally found his gold coin!!! 😂 But a funny kind of gold!! We enjoyed so much Detectival 2024 and we look forward to 2025 edition. Fingers crossed we will meet you there! Ciao!
I was mudlarking of sorts this morning....I was volunteering at a clean up of my local beach. I thought of you when I found a tiny dolls leg and later a white bead. I didn't keep them. Some fantastic finds during your trip.
It was so great to meet you Nicola. What a fabulous weekend! I was in the field when James found the gold ring. Just seeing it was an absolute joy! I found a few tiny finds and my very first hammered so that was really exciting for me.
The man I bought my first detector from in 1997 went to a similar event for detectorists in England in the 1990s and came back with a bronze arrowhead, parts of a Saxon coin purse, and piles of machine gun bullets that had rained from the sky during the Blitz! If that guy is still alive he is old now, he retired from the Army Corps of Engineers and was in Kuwait during Desert Storm helping to mitigate various environmental disasters caused by Saddam Hussein. He was a Civil Engineer and his hobby was detecting.❤🙂
Holy Haddock and chips(with curry sauce, thank you very much)!!!!! This field! What the heck??? People are finding things all over! Awww you talked to Roman finds,Lucie and Josie🥰 They rock history ,proper. Oh my haddock and chips,I neeeeeeed to get to FITG shop,as I need to operate Roman cooking vessels. I shall do that right now. Nicola. You are the best. You will find that ring. You will.
Everyone found many nice coins, gold coins, silver coins and plenty of Roman finds! This was a wonderful Detectival Nicola. You may not have found many things, but you did a great video. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
Hello Angela Loved the video. Looks like so much fun. Was impressed with the young fella from Paddy's finds. Simons tee shirt gift was perfect. Thanks Take care Chris and Sandra of Canada.
Great video Nicola! Very nice surprise to see an old friend make a surprise appearence haha. I went with to a detecting rally in Scotland in 2014 with Edwin 28:00 and a bunch of other dutch detectorists 😃
Nicola, I love your outros. Especially today, the Jack Sparrow quote and to hear you talking like a Pirate! Actually, I appreciate your kind message at the end of each one, reminding us that we are "all precious" this week. Love that new t-shirt!! Looks like you had a great time!
Wow, proves its not necessarily who knows the most, but who is in the right place at the right time. What a fabulous haude of gold coins. I can't imagine the excitement felt by that person. Lots of coins were found. I think any personal items would have interested me. Broaches, hair pins etc. 😂 A gold coin would be amazing too though. What a great way to spend two days with like minded people. Ay and a place to sleep like you had Nicola. Fabulous. I can't say I'm a camper much myself, but I'd be willing to have a go in a glamping tent like that. Thanks for taking us along with you. Sorry you didn't find the ring you wanted. I'd have loved to see you find something like that. 😊 x
Hello Nicola. I wanted to say I love your name it’s very pretty. If that’s the a good way to put. I’ve really enjoyed your videos and can never wait for another. It is so cool all the people are so nice and friendly there. I’m sure you’ll find your ring someday. It’s just waiting for the right moment to be found. Take care . Sending love from the U S A.
Loved the video, it really captured the vibe of the weekend. Everyone with a shared passion, having a great time enjoying themselves. It was a real pleasure to meet with you and thank you for sharing a couple of Paddy’s videos.
Great for all of us to meet all of these folks -- you did a great job "On The Scene Reporter" Nicola! But did you have enough time to detect? Hmmm -- just now saw the 'Mr. Whippy' truck -- I hope that you had a break and had some soft-serve ice cream! Wow -- quite a well set up festival -- glamping (a Make-Up tent?!?!?!?!), tea tent, dancing and entertainment in the evening! And the t-shirt -- leave it to Simon!!! Hee hee hee.
Lovely video, and some Spanish people there too, nice to see some faces, and I have just been watching Si and Chris while making some tomato marmalade 😂, you all brighten up my day.
This looks like it could be a lot of fun. It also looks like some of the events that happen around here at this time of the year (only no one is digging or metal detecting). Have you noticed that people dress much the same around the world? T-shirts are seen almost everywhere.
You were there to encourage, to support, to inform and help others. You are a one woman human resource and communications department machine, only one that actually cares. It was a conference of like minded people facilitated by you. The next step would be to collect papers and find an editor and publish the collection in a journal. But then it would be no fun at all. Skip that and continue with the party. 🎉 😂
I can offer the following probable cause of death guide, depending on where a pigeon ring is found: middle of open field > peregrine falcon boundary between field and woodland > goshawk middle of kitchen floor > ginger tomcat
