The MCU changed it all. People like to pretend they’re “bad” or “harmful” but movies that bring this many people closer together are important.

Couldn't have said it better myself! People can nitpick the MCU all they want but the fact that it succeeded to THIS level is a miracle.

Yeah. This became a hugely personal thing for all of us. I don't think my experience with Endgame will leave me for a long while, if not the rest of my life? I don't think that's too hyperbolic to say. This was really special.

Chris Evans said it best. “These films will last.” And with the way you’ve described the MCU in this video, this is why.

After watching this essay, Kevin Feige confirmed that Bailey will direct the next Endgame for the second Avengers generation in 11 years.

I’m still wrecked from Endgame and this one is getting me. This is pretty much childhood and parting ways with the characters I grew up with hurts because I won’t see them again. At the same time, I’m excited because new characters will emerge and they’ll become a new part of my chapter. And like always, I’m gonna keep on watching them because I wanna continue venturing into this open world of Marvel while still looking back at the ones I miss dearly. Great eulogy by the way! This was something I needed to hear before saying goodbye.

Avengers Endgame was a masterpiece 10/10 it is the 3rd best superhero movie and by far best Marvel movie of all time.

For all that I've recently become more critical of certain aspects of the MCU as a whole, on top of just having very little interest in the future Phases, you've really summed it all up perfectly. 💖

Yeah, this has been half of my entire life. The MCU has been absolutely great thus far, and I’m so excited for the future of it, maybe if it could touch this last 11 years in the next 11 years that’ll be an achievement.

Fantastic essay.. I found myself still getting dangerously emotional during it. I'm in total agreement with your analysis... Marvel was just better at presenting flawed and relatable characters. (Yes I also loved the DC comics too for different reasons). I grew up reading these comics in the 70's into the 90's, loving the fantasy ride they took me on. After several failed attempts on television I came to accept that we'd never get a good interpretation of these worlds. But then.. Raimi gave us two good 'Spiderman' films and hope. Then... 'Iron Man' broke the wall and now we got a comic book spectacle I didn't expect to see! This 11 year story arc to me is the 'Lord of the Rings' of superhero tales. If Marvel screws things up from here on, (with I suspect, identity politics), we at least have the 'Infinity Saga" to treasure.

I grew up alongside these guys. It started when I was 8 and ended when I became an adult and graduating high school. literally a week before graduation, I went and saw Endgame. I'm gonna miss those days of speculation. Rewatching the trailers over and over and over. Discussing this all with my friends at school. Our fucking teacher played the Endgame trailer in class! That was how high the hype was, and in my eyes, it'll never be topped. They can keep making these movies, and hell, I'll still watch them. But nothing will be as special as coming to school the day after the Infinity War trailer dropped and speculating with my friends. Nothing will ever beat seating in that theater when Spidey got dusted and actually crying even though I knew damn well he'd be returning. Nothing will ever beat watching endless theory videos, latching onto any news I could. The MCU was not only my childhood, but a loving friend. It was there for me while I went from a kid, to a teenager, into the grown woman I am today. I don't think I'd be the same girl I am today if Tony Stark had never emerged from that cave as Iron Man, if Steve Rogers had never been thawed out, and if Nick Fury had never started the Avengers initiative.

I like this video a lot, nay, I fucking love this video. This and "We've been taken the MCU for granted" better describe the way I feel about this universe, this characters. Amazing video, man, as always.

Couldn’t agree more with your essay. The thing is that many took successful superhero movies for granted. If someone told me in 2008 that there will be a scene where iron spider with infinity gauntlet will be riding Mjølnir that threw by captain America, I might call the police.

It was the perfect close-out to a saga and really makes you reflect and appreciate the entire journey even movies like Thor: The Dark World. Not only the conclusion of the saga, but the conclusion of the individual characters' arcs; Captain America was a soilder who's life is defined by war and fighting for the right thing but he never got a life because he sacrficed it for the good of others, never looking for his own wants and needs but he finally gets one at the end of Endgame as Endgame shows us a man weary of the war and tragedy that constantly defined his life, shown from the smallest details like his loose swearing to the biggest like him growing old with Peggy and getting that dance. Tony on the other hand lived a life; (granted it wasn't always the happiest of lives but he still lived one) from a arrogant selfish businessman to a man forced to witness the horror of his mistakes and then into a hero, a person coping with PTSD and constant guilt to the point where he builds a leigon of Ironman suits, an Advanced A.I Robots to be a peacekeeping program around the world (which backfired terribly against him), to fighting with Steve Rogers and many of his comrades, mentoring a person who he viewed as a son, losing the battle and forced to watch in horror the consequences of his failure including losing the person he viewed as a son for the last few years, starting a family and finally becoming happy and then having to sacrfice this happiness and his time with his daughter to save tge world and finally being able to rest. If Steve Rogers never had a life and always put people's needs and safety before his then Endgame is about him finally realizing he deserves a life of his own. While Tony (who lived his life to the fullest) has to give away his life for the greater good. Thank you for your service Captain Rogers and R.I.P Tony Stark. We Love you 3000.

It really is such a hard thing for me to say goodbye to this chapter of the MCU, it's been a little over a month now since the release of Avengers: Endgame (It was too soon after the events of the film to watch this video when it was initially uploaded) and after I saw it there was a lingering feeling, a sadness, a depression of sorts that I couldn't seem to escape. It took two long weeks after my viewing (which felt like a lot longer) to finally start to recover from the pure shock and awe I had sustained and while that feeling may not be as prominent now as it felt in those first two weeks after, it's something that will always stay with me. Thank you Bailey for so wonderfully articulating what makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe so special to you, to me and to all of us.

MCU's work is unprecedented. Sometimes filmmakers and story tellers struggle to make the one movie coherent while here they kept that coherence during 22 movies. Of course, there are some plot holes (all movies have them, even the dark knight) but they are not that relevant and don't affect the story. There's respect for all the characters, which evolve and have been growing with us (in 10 years, one grows as a person, take me for example, in those 10 years I became a father, twice). I could go in, but that is the core of why the MCU is great.

Wonderful choice of words in this video. I only really got into the MCU since 2017, yet it was a great decision for me. And watching this video has prompted me to observe an interesting trend in 2019. See, as 2019 is the final year of the 2010s, there has also been a number of "end of an age" installments for media franchises. Besides Avengers: Endgame being the finale for the Infinity Saga, there are also final installments of shows and films including- . How to Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World . Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker . Finale of Game of Thrones . Toy Story 4 (it's really the last one, as far as I'm concerned.) . My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (season 9 finale) So yes, 2019 seems to be the "year of endings". And since we will soon start a new decade with the 2020s, let us see what new franchise or trend will happen and what new fandom it could bring.

The Infinity Saga was the main reason why i love superheroes so much (besides The Raimi Trilogy) Marvel has always been the best at movies especially when it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe but now it lost its momentum the only thing we love phase 4 is No Way Home. Im proud that im living in the MCU Era i hope phase 5, 6, and 7 will be better.

Hi Bailey. I really enjoyed the video. Your enthusiasm and earnestness really strike a chord. I like a lot of these movies (Endgame made me cry). Tony Stark has been, in his own fraught, complicated, messy way, the face of heroism since I was 9 years old. He's gone now. I knew it would happen, I knew I'd feel it pretty intensely, but it still sneaks up on me. "Tony Stark is dead" is a phrase that has more power over me than it should. However, I do want to push back a little bit on one thing. I don't think it's wise to dismiss criticisms over the MCU's material existence as business ventures (which doesn't negate their existence as films, fwiw) as simply being cynicism. These movies are business ventures. That's not bad, in and of itself, for the qualities of the films, but to critique the manner in which they are business ventures isn't cynicism. To critique the way the films have had a material interest in putting forward a certain political viewpoint about the US military through the funding that early (and recent) Marvel films have received from the US Dept of Defense isn't cynicism. It's a legitimate concern for the collateral damage that these gargantuan films leave in the wake of their success-in the wake of the heartstrings they tug at in you and me and everyone else who loves them-like the collateral damage the heroes in those films cause to their surroundings. They're branding ventures for the largest multimedia company on earth. A company that is eating the industry and art form I love dearly alive with its monopolistic greed and these movies are it's greatest weapons (even more than Star Wars at this point), these movies which enabled them to eat another major studio alive and subsume it into their ranks. It's not cynical to be scared of what a movie making 2 billion dollars in less than two weeks for a maliciously greedy monopoly is going to do for films that aren't big blockbuster fare. Films like Moonlight, Arrival, Ex Machina, John Wick, Whiplash, those get harder to make when one company can weaponize our earnest connection to the heroes they own to crowd out the rest of the industry. I hate to be a downer but it's not just cynicism and jadedness to be afraid of the behemoth Disney has created, and what that behemoth will do, especially for young filmmakers like myself who-while I respect greatly what the MCU has achieved in terms of logistical storytelling-are more interested in making those other kinds of movies, and worry there won't be as much of a place for those to be seen by broad audiences in the future. I really, deeply, earnestly love a lot of these movies (GOTG2 is my favorite). Endgame is phenomenal. Most of the Marvel films are, in their own right, good films. They're really easy to love. I've loved them for most of my life. Sam Raimi's Spider-Man was one of the first movies I can remember seeing in the movie theater when I was 3-years-old. My entire life runs basically parallel to the rise of the superhero genre. What do I do with these things that I love so much? These beautiful works of destruction? I don't know. I don't know how to disentangle the love I have for the films from the fear and anger and frustration I have for what they leave in their wake. I just know that to dismiss those fears as cynicism makes it easier for Disney to do those things, and there needs to be room for both. Sorry for the essay of a comment-I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade, truly-but the world is complicated, and sometimes we have to be able to confront that. I hope I managed to come off as respectful both to the films and emotions they conjure and to your work on this video-if I fell short of that, I again apologize.

This is honestly more sad to me. I grew up with the MCU and grew up with the Infinity Saga and yes they're not the best films but shit they tried. This is how I became a comic book fan. the MCU now it's just...sad. I wish I had the same love for the MCU now that I had before

Man, Thanks for this video, I cried so hard while watching this, I didn't cried when Tony died and I blamed on my brain that usually just doesn't let me cry but I felt really sad since I saw that movie, Tony was really important for me in a real personal way and I felt I needed to let something out but I couldn't, well, I cried like I never cried before and I fell so relief right now... (and I still have some tears in my eyes) I was excited for this video since the announcement and now that it's finally here I'm blown away. This was another class video Bailey! for me personally... i've always connected with the guardians more than anyone as they are the outsiders trying to fit in. I also love the value of friendship that those movies show, along with the deeper meanings of how parents affect us and make us who we are. Dammit, you went and made me cry again

I'm a person who suppresses his emotion go an extent where it definitely is unhealthy. I don't cry until it's a very extreme situation. Tony's snap did it for me. Listening to this video, I've shed a few tears. But it wasn't what you said that did it all. It was 12% of it. The thing that crossed the emotional line for me was the music in the background at the very start. Listening to your words while listening to that music was... exquisite.

People will still be talking about the MCU in 10 years, or at least people will be thinking about it. You already know that there’s gonna be young children watching this in the 2030’s. Not because the combat was awesome, not because of the SGI, and not because of the awesome superhero abilities. Stan Lee and the rest at Marvel made something of everyone. They maid you feel included, happy, and proud because they help you see yourself. Endgame drops all of this self acknowledgement and perspective and drops it back on your shoulders. Whether the one you relate too is a Witch who feels that no one loves her and no one wants her or whether it’s a raccoon who’s hiding his need for family by seeming confident and arrogant, this story was there for you. Endgame drops all that on top of you again… But I still prefer Infinity War. XD. (Don’t at me and don’t ask me why, I just do) :) 👍🏻
