I grew up near the walled city of Intramuros Fort Santiago but I didn't know about Fort San Antonio Abad which is now flanked by buildings, hidden from the public

There are a few others worth mentioning: Cobh, Limerick, a number of smaller forts around the mouth of the Shannon, Dun Eochla (likely), Shannonbridge, Athlone (probably), Inishmulclohy, Bunnaton, Dunree, Buncrana, Belfast, Carrickfergus, Rathfarnham, and I’d say that the one near Phoenix Park is Dublin City. Drop me an email at colm@starforts.org if you’d like to chat.

Also on Inishbofin Co. Galway, a Cromwellian star shaped fort from c. 1655, still standing at the mouth of the harbour.

We have 2 earthen bastion or star shaped forts in Sligo ... a relatively large one, called the Green Fort that is strategically located on the highest area of the town, first recorded in a map c.1600 and possibly reconstructed c.1646 and another, smaller fort, on Coney Island (Inishmulclohy) between Strandhill and Rosses Point.

How do we know when they were constructed and who built them? Also has anybody got a photo of Fort Wood? (Pre statue of liberty 🗽 I mean!) I don't think the Brits built these!

great video! all of them! thanks for your hard work. not sure if youve seen the ones in niagara on the lake canada, but there are 3 in very close proximity to each other along lake ontario all of which are described as military complexes maintained by either state or provincial authority. its hard to see the one as its grown over with grass on the back of a golf course but still very clearly typical star shape. there are 2 on either side of the inlet waterway. they are so close together that its hard to imagine the military strategy building them near each other like that. cheers thanks again

I have a big problem with all of these forts being built, in about a 200 year span, during the dark ages. There are hundreds worldwide, and they all seem to have been built, when most of the world was dying of the plague. A lot of them, have re-designed coast lines incorporated in the structures. I seriously doubt, that the original star foundations are only 500 years old or less. It's nonsense.

Those this video is very poorly done.. 90% of the time it only shows the inner ring.. what this video shows is the twinkle in the star forts eyes..
