I agree with one of the comments below. This is a wonderful channel and I look forward to each of your episodes. Thank you to all who work on them for this 🙏🏽
This case was a heinous murder of a precious little boy by a "despicable," person and I'm being polite at that. It's interesting that Hutchinson admitted that he murdered little Albert and later wrote a letter apologizing for the horrific murder of this precious little boy. On the one hand people might conclude that Hutchinson was insane at the time of the murder but yet he seemed sane enough to admit his guilt and wrote a letter apologizing for his crime, plus he stated that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life in an insane asylum. Do you know what happened to Albert's parents? Great investigating, presenting, backstories, illustrations, photos and videos, as well. Take care 🦋
Insane people can acknowledge what they have done, they just do not understand that, at the time, what they did was wrong. He could have been suffering from schizophrenia or was in a psychotic state at the time. What was considered being insane at that time, is now classified as having some sort of mental illness.
The conundrum of his behaviour just before the child was murdered and just after the child was murdered is what caused a problem then about whether or not he was psychotic. He was seen immediately before and after - this is why the plea of isanity was rejected at that time. 🤔
Really sorry - we do not have that information. They were terribly poor - the area they lived in was notorious. Surviving on a cleaners wage at the time would have beem difficult. A sad case. 😔
Interesting! 🙂Had you heard of this case? The location, unless they changed the name of the street whch has been known to happen, was Malt Mill lane. The pub around the corner was the Miller's Arms.
It would be interesting to know what caused the army to reject Hutchinson’s application to join. My guess is that military recruiters are pretty good at picking up on signs of mental instability in a possible recruit so perhaps they saw something beneath the mild exterior? Ps ‘Lunacy’ is a lovely word (I mean just the word not it’s rather cruel usage), one of those lovely old words that we are slowly loosing.
Great point! That would be interestnng! There is no reference to the why in the papers, but excellent observation! The beauty of fading words, we are in accord. 😏
Quite! There was much talk at the time that when he had had any kind of drink he became "not himself". Much was placed on a head injury he had incurred when he was a child of 7. It was thought that drink brought the head injury"back". The counter argtument was that he was not drunk at the time of the murder. So very sad all around.😔
