I have the 49 key HS and was able to follow along nicely. I also don't have an external reverb so I used the internal one the best I could, and I see now why people complain about it. If you've never heard a Blue Sky MX and all you have is the internal one, we don't know what we're missing. Nice job!

I have a Strymon Big Sky original and a Hydrasynth. An absolute killer combo!

Thanks for another great video and patch!! It is great that you concentrate on showing patches and actually using synths. Keep up the great work!!

You're 100% right about the reverb, it seems to thin out and suck the life out of the sound somehow. Considering it's only software, it could (and should) be addressed in a future firmware update. It really is the biggest complaint I have this synth - other than that, I adore my 49 key. So easy to dial exactly what I'm imaging in (and so expressive with the poly AT, wheels and macros), I'll probably hang onto it for good.

I have Mobius, Timeline and BigSky hooked up in Stereo. The Mobius sounds pretty awesome... I like to use the Multi Chorus Mode, adds a bit of magic to everything. Also seems to tame the Digital nature of the Hydrasynth.

After building this patch and playing around with it, I gotta say: Don't think the internal reverb's that bad, especially the Cloud, but the Big Sky has been the industry standard for a decade now and with good reason. Different dimension! So, is the MX with it's pricetag worth it over the standard "old model"?

The Mx is quite a big upgrade over the original. The algorithms sound a Significantly better in terms of dealing with not introducing nasty undesired artifacts and not getting muddy but you can run 2 algorithms at the same time.

would love to see the peak version of this

Was gain staging necessary at the (mixer/computer/compression) post processing after lowering oscillator levels and turning master volume to max? OR did there remain a good level output from the HydraSynth?

Hydra puts out a fairly hot signal even when you lower the internal gain stages. I still normalize in post but since the hydra is pretty much noise free it’s not an issue.

@@YukiTheSynthDragon Thank you, good to know. Most synths today have the weakest output levels, even the top of the line like Roland RD-2000 and Fantom, Kurtweil PC4. Then the Korg Krome, Miniloges, Roland JunoDS, MicroBrute....and on...digital or analog...

yes this is exactly what i was hoping you would do putting pedals in with your synth videos!!!!

I thought the video was going to be more about reverb design, lol

“I hate it “. 😅. If you don’t have anything else, the Reverb is fine. U Sound like my seven-year-old I agree with you, lol Sounds amazing. I’m using this Sloer with the same synthesizer at the moment. Great video and also I love your chord progressions they’re so beautiful.

Thanks for posting this video. I just built the patch on my Hydra Keyboard with your instructions and it sounds fantastic! I do not have a reverb pedal, thus I used the internal “Hall“ reverb. How would you describe the difference between that and the Big Sky? Well, apart from you hating the internal one.

The internal reverb is very metallic sounding based on comb filtering it is most likely using, it also lacks diffusion. The big sky Mx has no comb filtering artifacts and quite a bit of diffusion. I might make a shot video on comparing the internal vs the big sky.

@@YukiTheSynthDragon I would love a video like that. Would certainly help me to better understand the filtering artifacts, diffusion etc. I have just started to experiment with the reverb settings in the Hydra more.

No, the reverb in the hs is godawful. I don't know how they couldn't get a better reverb. It's honestly bizarre.
