The lexical approach focuses on the actual words and how they are ‘chunked’ together to create meaning. A lexical chunk is a group of words that we usually find together, for example, “Good morning” is a lexical chunk made up of “good” and “morning”. Another example would be “Did you stay long at the party?” which can be broken down into “did you” + “stay long” + “at the party”. These are three lexical chunks because we often find these words being used together.
