@@mattblue8759 I have doubts on using a powertrain from the French company. It will take alot of work to convince buyers into buying one like we seen Toyota trying so hard to market its Supra even though it has a BMW powertrain
i love evos. the IX was my first sports car and really got me into cars on another level. i had an X years later that i regret selling to this day but holy hell that thing had a lot of small issues. listen to this guy and BUY STOCK! driver mod > car parts
@@floppaturnt I forget how lucky we are in the being able to buy direct from Japan. You can basically take your pick from loads of low mileage Evos over here.
I usually watch vids on my Xbox where I can’t comment, but I had to get on my phone to leave a comment of appreciation of this video. I haven’t enjoyed a video like this in a long time. This was awesome!
@@jameelrose I have heard it a few times. I've been offered buy evo guy older man to possibly sell my car. I guess its who you know. it's a history for us rally fans we grew up watching these cars chew up dirt n snow jump slide all over. why not own both.
I have a Subaru rs over fender front and back and planning to get an evo once the economy /stock market starts getting better then from the worst that’s about to come
This guy should be running Mitsubishi's R&D. Its always the guys in the aftermarket who do it for the love that make the biggest difference. Another amazing video.
Evo has always been my dream car until I finally got an Evo 8 about 2 years ago now. Its been non stop modifying and I never get tired of seeing it in the mornings and driving it every day. Best bang for buck car you can get. Simple bolt ons and E85 can get you bigger power and their looks are so timeless.
@@GevXander just turned 101000 km's on mine, shifts like it just pulled out of the show-room. It's been at 340/330 for 40,000 kms of those. I change all d/t fluids every 30,000kms.
I have a 09 Ralliart and I just hit 170k miles, at 150k miles I thought my SST was done because it wouldn't shift into 2nd, I took a $350 gamble and changed the fluid and it came back alive. It's a great transmission, you just have to change the expensive SST fluid right on the dot.
Great video as always guys! RS motors has been my go to source for the tough evo questions for year! RS & ASM combined have certainly helped me be more confident in my evo work and informative evo videos i put out. PS- I'm sad Brandon's "b-chassis" CT9A widebody 9 didn't really make the cut :(
Just got my 2014 X GSR converted to E85 a few days ago. Really wakes the car up. 383whp 370wtq. Feel like I'm one of the lucky ones as I've made it to 71k on the original OEM clutch and it's still holding great.
Looove my RS. No map lights, no backlit vanity mirrors, rear wiper, wing, abs, acd (2004). It's very cool doing work in the foot well area and seeing a dark gray carpet end to expose beautiful red painted sheet metal with no sign of insulation!!
That man who's talking about the evo is a deam genius and know what exactly the can do and how to do it .. Knowledge pers.. Anddd im pretty sure they don't have a lot of guy who think and knows like him in USA. Respect
I have owned and modified my evo9 since 2009 and it is the best platform mitsu made. The thru analog and responsive feel is unmatched. Its violent. I love that beast.
Loved my IX MR. Bought it new in 2006, and sold it in 2012 and still regret getting rid of it. Even though I've had other sports cars since then, I still find the Evo is the standard by which I base all my cars.
I've had an Evo X MR since 2012, and I've been running 400hp for the majority of that time, stock everything except an exhaust and an ECU tune. A couple of years ago the timing chain failed at idle so I rebuilt the engine with Manley H beam rods and JE pistons, ARP head studs and rod bolts, new valves and turbo. I'm now approaching 300,000km and I'm still on the original (stock) clutches and trans, which (touch wood) I've had no problems with. My advice is to be obsessive about your maintenance and services, oil changes etc. Best car I've ever had.
Ron knows his stuff, and he is a good dude it seems like. Went out of his was to make a situation right for me when he didn't have to. And out up with a sh*t attitude I had before I was ASE certified and knew what I was talking about. That said there are some employees there that must not be paying attention, because my GSX went there two times. Both times I had serious issues due to negligence. First time the head was removed by them for machining, a new gasket, and Magnus intake manifold, and a pump gas tune. I got it back and it would misfire hard after being on the freeway for 10 mins. I figured it out myself and it ended up being due to my 6 bolt swap and a setting in ECMlink being not properly set up. Then a month later I had a cylinder not contributing at all, no compression, but leak down was 8-percent which is really good. I removed the valve cover and observed every single cam tower bolt being finger tight except for one. That bolt was broken off. Luckily the head of the bolt was still right there and the rest could be spun out by thumb. (Meaning also only finger tight). So someone forgot to torque them to spec. Ron made it right by looking over and rechecking everything ( except one of the other techs there forgot to use the ARP hardware I supplied the for the second go. so he had to do it twice, or technically that would be a 3rd time.) Next visit I installed a full-blown dual pump hanger, braided fuel lines, new rail, new FPR new injectors. I messed up an injector during the install, but that's another expensive story. Was still learning at that time. But when I brought the new injectors and it was dyno day I was at school, they said the oil pan needs to be sealed up better before it goes on the dyno. I said "cool can you do it" I can't leave school." And someone there did.... And forgot to put the spacer for my axle support bracket back in during the process. That spacer takes up the space between the engine block and what was once the home of a factory AC compressor bracket. This led to a stress fracture and eventually total breakage of the mounting boss on the back of my engine block. So the axle support started flopping around. I found it before any catastrophic damage was done. But at the very least the engine must come out for access to the damage for repair. Even then, the idea of welding on my block next to soft bearings is not comforting. On top of that, there are 2 short bolts for the oil pan. Whoever put the bolts back in out those bolts in random spots, so about 45 days after getting the car back the timing belt started getting a weird line down it and started to tear/fray. The short bolts are there because they are meant to go in to the points below the crankshaft sprocket that drives the timing belt. The incorrectly installed long bolts would make intermittent contact with the timing belt and do damage to it. If I had a timing cover on i never would have known and it's possible that it would have worn to the point the belt snapped. I hope Ron is being more strict with who he lets work there. He's been doing this a longtime and I know sh*t happens, but it's been a trip every visit I've had there. I've always been happy with Ron's engine calibrations so I can't say anything on that front. My last time was 446whp at 22psi. I've had that time for two years and never needed an adjustment or refresh.
love this series! I have always wanted someone to do an aftermarket breakdown on popular tuner cars. I will say that the Subaru tuner/speed shop was WAY more honest about the reliability because real car guys know that the EVO and STI are fantastic machines, but they are prone to break/blow. Can’t wait to see what’s next!
This is such a great idea for a series! It gives car guys a peek into a new chassis to modify, which is great if you're considering expanding your fleet. 10/10
1:26, Thats my 04 Sti on the right😂I bring my car to Ronnie at RS Motors and they do amazing work. I love to see Minnesota getting some love. Great video btw, I loved seeing a bit of my car in this video🤣
Honestly I’m the last 4 months that Ive posted that lots of thoughts have changed, they are horrible at communicating, I’ve had to go back there 3 times, I asked them from the start to do an Air/oil separator and they said I didn’t need it (I knew I needed it). I had to do back because I saw the oil in my charge pipes, they finally put in a air/oil separator, also my tunes were all messed up and I had to go back there again, that was about 2 months ago. The car runs great now but I’m not going back there😂
Often times I get alot of questions from people about the S-Chassis models and differences from overseas like the Silvia, 180SX, and 200SX compared to our domestic 240SX. I think it'd be a good episode idea to clear up confusion! Great video guys!
Man awesome video! Love my some 4G63. I bought an Evo 8 after I graduated from college in 2009. I loved that car so much but sold it after my parents kicked me out of the house and ended up buying my own house the following year. That day at 22 years old. when I sold my favorite car to fix my house, is the moment I transitioned from kid to adult.
I love this series so much!!! I know American cars aren't exactly your main focus but an aftermarket video on Mustangs or even Ford Focuses would be really nice!!!
Only had an 04 oz rally but man I loved that thing. Great handling car. Could only imagine to have an evo growing up while I was younger. Could only image.....
love this documentary, this guy is straight and passionate about the build! Also very reasonable on the description and horsepower goal! Awesome! Im saying this bc lots of video here on youtube, the tuner or builder can easily say: ive got this that etc...i make 800hp-900hp!!!
One day I will own an Evo 9, that is one of the things I’ve been looking forward towards in life for so long now and I really hope prices stop going up 😩
@RonnieSoliman (RS Motors)/ Gears & Gasoline! Please make a video about the TCase, Transmission, Clutch/Flywheel, AYC??? When to upgrade/rebuild or replace???? #veryinformative #AwesomeVideo #Keepemcoming
Thanks a bunch for this video! I've been on the fence on which EVO gen I wanna get in the next few years and now I know the 10's aren't as bad as people were telling me.
Lol" if your granny shifting it will work." Slipping it dose make it sound filthy. *I always felt like the boost almost pulls itself into gear, no need to force it*
This series is the besttttt, we need one for the VQ series! 350z/370z/g35 etc. Given they're non turbo its less straight forward to squeeze power out of so some specialist opinion would be awesome.
Only thing i didn't see covered was about the 4G63 was doing the 4G64 mod and tuning, guess can't cover everything 👍 Great review the best i have seen..👍
That's some impressive turn-around time for the video! And yeah...don't be like me and be new to the chassis and buy a partially parted out car and piece it back together. I mean...I know this car like the back of my hand now, but, I could have bought two running ones with the investment. Lol. Great content as always. Can't wait to get my 8 on the track.
Keep in mind that this advice is quite region-specific. This is due to the fact that Ralliart UK, for instance, tuned the MR models quite a bit from factory. This includes pistons, cams, and various other changes.
@@iampyron22 crazy, that's like 8k usd, I'm not planning to mod it too much at first, I work from home and I also have just a regular daily, so I dont think I'm gonna be spending that much, or that's what I'm expecting at least lol
