Great vid. As you say the rules are similar to the UK, but not quite the same. A solid white line for example you can not cross, Highway Code 129 "This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less." The chevron or flush median is also something that you are NOT ALLOWED to enter. If there is a broken white line for a junction etc, then you can turn in to it. Otherwise you stay out of it. I have read elsewhere that if the road is 100kph, then you do 100kph. There is no 10% speedo error so if you do 110 kph in a 100 zone then the police will leave pull you over. As in the UK where I used to live or now in Canada, you can do 110 kph in a 100 and the police don't bother with you. Driving in Canada to the UK is a big difference. Calgary, Alberta drivers get their license from the Kellogg's Corn Flakes packet. Some of the most arrogant, ignorant, dangerous and stupid drivers in the world. Every time I ride my motorcycle, it is will I make it home today! 🙄

What a great comment. Thank you. I am moving to the UK with my job so what you say is very useful. The one thing I really have found is that UK drivers are so much more road conscious and courteous than in NZ. Yes there are always muppets on the road but in general I have found this is the case. The driving test in NZ sounds similar to Canada. Much less onerous than the UK. Stay safe.

@@WoodendWanderer I was a Traffic Officer in the UK. I left the UK for Canada in 2006. I really wanted NZ, but couldn't get the points. Driving standards have changed throughout the world and unfortunately, for the worst. When I was last in the UK I was shocked how bad the driving had become. Calgary was bad from the start when I got here. You can sit in any lane, there is no keep to the right unless overtaking. Vehicles come down from slip roads and just swoop across all the lanes to get to the left as that is their preferred driving lane. If you are in their way, there will be a collision. First snowfall is also a turkey shoot, usually collisions are in the hundreds for one day in Calgary alone. Then there is living in -30s C (-40's C) for three weeks of the year and between -10 & -30C for the other 5 months. That gets a bit annoying after a while. No motorcycle riding there. Anyway, enjoy the UK and safe travels.
