What makes this version of the song so sad and somber for me is how you can draw a parallel between the original and this version to real life. This is an old song, and if you notice, the crowd is full of people well into their adult years, they've grown old along with it. The original is fun, exciting, and full of energy, just like when you're a young teenager. This version is slowed down, the energy and "youth" of it is gone, but in its place is a tenderness and an almost haunting and melancholic tone to it, which is indicative of getting older. You slow down, you've expended your energy, you're less upbeat and reckless, but you're more aware, sensitive and tender, and what was once the youthful thoughts of invincibility and now replaced with a growing realization that you don't get to live forever, and time is short, growing shorter every day. So needless to say when i look at this song in that way, it adds this extra sad depth to it for me.
You can explain every so clearly this is exactly how I see this song I see it so differently now to the original version particularly the line “slowly learning life is ok “it hits differently now than when I heard it when I was younger
The original is still an amazing track, and I like it for so many reasons. But I absolutely adore this version - over 30 years later the lyrics, as you rightly state Bisscute, have a whole 'nother meaning. You can hear the age in Mortens vocals, and he just sings so this so delicate. Together with bands arrangement this is everything I love about music.
The original MV in the 80s was something to behold forever. This one is nice too, but it can't top the feeling i had back then in my youth. Love everyone of your reactions though!
So true! It’s a completely other song! This version is heartbreaking, sad, asking for appreciating good times! The fast version is more fighting than asking, telling you to be powerful keeping your head up! That’s why both versions are so incredible, so emotional and meaningful

I love this version a lot more. I think the song is great period but this slowed down version I think speaks more to what the lyrics are actually trying to convey. It's easy to get caught up in the music and the video, if you watched the video, without diving into the lyrics all that much. Maybe you heard the song many times throughout your life, like me, and because of the tempo and everything going on around it you never really gave much thought to what he is saying. You were just like this is a catchy tune. Once you dive into the lyrics and slow it down though you really start to understand the complexity of what he's talking about. We're not gonna be together forever. Our time is limited so take me for who I am and I'll do the same for you for however much time we happen to be blessed with.
I love this version... for me as we grow older with our faults and thoughts, our memories, take on me.. huge respect to the audience who listened and felt every word and emotion quietly.
This video that she reacts to has some of the some the most heart warming comments in it. Somebody talking about their parents dancing to this song, but they passed away however they also danced with their 6 year old when it comes on. Another cry worthy one of when guy used to sing this to his wife all the time, but when she was passing away from cancer she said "I will be gone in a day or 2". woof. Plus I bought this album when it was new, and it was probably 3rd album I ever bought with my own money.
Finally some 80s music! I adore 80s music. It's my favorite of all. Please do some 80s Tears for Fears: Pale Shelter, Memories Fade, Watch me Bleed, Change, Start of The Breakdown, Shout, Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Head Over Heels, anything off their first two albums really, or any their live performance from the 80s because they were in their prime. 80s The Cure, anything off Disintegration. Depeche Mode- Blasphemous Rumours is a good one. Toto - Hold The Line. Daryl Hall & John Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do) grooves like crazy. If this doesn't get you dancing you're dead. 80: When in Rome, Simple Minds, Pet Shop Boys, Thompson Twins, Johnny Hates Jazz, Glen Frey, Survivor, Cutting Crew, Wham, Cyndi Lauper, Phil Collins, Star Ship, Huey Lewis and the news. I've seen a lot of reactions to this song, both the original and this newer, slowed down version, and your reaction is the very best I've seen. You draw some parallels that are there, in the song and the two performances and put words to them in an excellent way. Thank you. A-ha has many good songs. I would recommend the sequel, 'The sun always shines on TV', 'Train of thought', 'Stay on these roads', 'Crying in the rain' (which is a cover from Everly Brothers), 'The living daylights' (Bond theme song), 'Summer moved on', 'Analogue', 'Foot of the mountain', 'Cast in steel' - there is a lot to dig into.
So many a-ha songs you should react too - they have released 11 studio albums, so we're talking 125+ songs to choose from. Take On Me is far from their best song. Basically, it's the sign of age. The faster version reflects youth. The acoustic version is us getting older and it's more poignant. Can we take a moment to marvel at Pal (Paul) Waaktaar-Savoy and his magnificent songwriting. He is A-Ha's secret weapon.
“A-ha” is having that 💡 moment, an idea. This was a nice mellow version. It definitely highlights the lyrics but the original is so iconic and ingrained in my memory that I can hum the main piano/keyboard melody without hearing the music.
yeah any time you see a song done on MTV Unplugged it's always a stripped down version of the original song without all the electronics added, I agree it gives the songs a whole new feel and meaning
Back in Jr. High and High I use to like to use take me on as a warm up song. I was a tenor. Unplugged slows it down and looses some of the parts. The or two is lost in the in a day or two in the fast version.
