Despite having one of the hardest-to-sing choruses in pop history - a fact easily confirmed by a trip to any karaoke bar - “Take on Me” is one of the most beloved singles of the Eighties. Written and performed by the Norwegian synth-pop band a-ha, Warner Bros. invested in a revolutionary music video that was released to dance clubs and television a month before the record was available in stores or played on the radio. Wide exposure on MTV helped propel the single to the top of Billboard’s Hot 100, reaching number one on October 19, 1985, its fifteenth straight week on the chart.
