I disagree. We have had two hamsters and one died around a year old. The other has had mites twice. The first trip to the vet cost me $220.00 and she was all fixed up in a couple of weeks. The next time, I was broke and couldn't afford the vet so I talked them into just filling the prescription and that cost me 24 bucks. Still waiting on the healing for that one but if you have an animal then you should have a fund for them, no matter what kind of animal they are. They don't deserve to suffer just because they didn't cost very much. Hamsters, small birds, whatever. If you have taken them in, then it is your responsibility to then take care of them to the best of your ability, great or small, God loves them all.

Unfortunately I can relate. Me and my fiance took our hamster to the vet because of some respiratory issues two years ago. They took X rays (apparently) and gave her some antibiotics. What we we left with was a dead hamster and a 500 dollar bill. We don't regret for one second spending that money on a hamster. We loved her dearly, but made us realise just how useless it wasv for an pet that small. I mean, how the fuck do you keep a hamster still during an X ray? Best thing is just symptom management, bigger space for them to move, and LTL. RIP Cammy x
