Fact: there is a picture of a girl who looks like hat kid in the nursery if you go in and out with a ballon more is added to the painting including a sinister smile
for some reason that reminded me of one of the paintings in ib now , i didnt get any nightmares from ib ( was my first horror game ) but i still perfectly remember some of the scary unsettling things like red eyes crawling out of the picture , seeing the scene in celeste where badeline halfway crawls out of the frame always reminds me of that i think it was the painting with the blue-ish hair that suddenly had a creepy face in ib , i legit dont even fully remember the place i saw it but i can perfectly "see" it in my head because that legit scared me for a second
I've played plenty of horror games... non of them made me as scared as this fucking level, and I think is precisly for the contrast it has with the rest of the game. your mind has gotten ajusted to such a happy charming experience and sudenly nightmare fuel.
Thats why I think horror in horror games simply doesnt work well, because you are already aware you are going to see some effed yp shiet while in happy games...it appears out of nowhere
After a few months i grew the courage and did this on parsec with a discord bud We went on coop, i said "I WANNA HIDE" then he let me hide under the table in the master bedroom, then he went to get the balloons, when he went to get the 3rd one, CRASH, and everything was turned over and BK right in front of the door with nothing on top. Then i wuss quit
@Infected Ghost thats kinda cute actually. too bad i have a mod which lets my weapon instakill any entity in the game, including the level geometry and Vanessa so uh think twice snatcher
Yeah, like I knew that I was safe outside her home, but I was actually expecting her to burst out the front door at any moment after I approached the cellar
@@pierrethehandsome2518 Pussy? This game is for kids. *Forcing* them through this level would be even worse than adding it into the game in the first place, so thats actually a fair feature.
Yep this level got me. The game looks all charmy and happy but this whole level really got me on edge :p I was like "This is a kids game no way they're gonna--" *thunder* *a creepy shadow figure appears* *Scary music* "OH GOD!!!" Also the painting in the other room starts changing too... Wtf!? XD Well... at least the piano didn't attack me XD
Fun Fact: Snatcher said to NOT use the hats in the manor because if you use that Fox hat, you can see Prince (prob Snatcher cuz in Vannesa Memory, when she put Prince in the chains we see that the Prince turned into a ghost, most likely Snatcher) Body tied up in the wall Edit: the creator even comfirmed this, in Vannesa's Curse DLC Snatcher said: Oh Vanessam you didnt had to treat me that way, i was your prince, and you were my princess, dunno if im late or smthing
Considering how much of us shit ourselves first time we played this and still a bit when we replayed it just imagine how bad it was for the kids. Seriously. This level is way better than any horror game
Genuinely the coolest level in AHiT. Such an interesting mechanic and great execution. I especially love that the game makes you get close to Vanessa herself to get objectives, making noise, and actively crossing paths close to her own.
@@R.ipM.yF.ishnets the jumpscare is only in this one level, the entire rest of the game is horror-free. PLEASE turn up the volume for the rest of the game, i'm begging you, the soundtrack and voice-acting are too great not to
do you know that you did not have to go thought those jumpscares right? 1:07 has a secret passage that takes you to a chest with a time piece ,easy fast and no jumpscares
I never thought that a game as cute and cartoony as A Hat In Time could be so terrifying. The way the screen distorts and how the music swells is just so bone chilling...
@@johnbean9797 What's the problem with being gay, liking Roblox, or being 9 year old? At least these people are more educated than you, if you want to offend someone for some stupid reason or because you have a shit life, use arguments at least, i know a gay person that plays Roblox and is 9, so yeah, change your attitude, and i know this is 1 year old, but it doesn't really changes nothing, unless you have changed.
Fun fact: in queen Vanessa’s manor, in the basement area with the key to get inside her mansion, there is actually a vent somewhere that leads straight to the attic, it’s used for people who can’t handle the horror in her level, like kids, and it is used for speed runs aswell.
I played this with my friend. He watched some let's plays but not much. However as soon as we reached this level he said: "Oh.. It's this level." I was like: It's got a scary athmosphere. It will be fun. I got scared as hell within seconds.
i absolutely adore that they stayed true to every 3d collect-a-thon trope including the "have one area that's uncharactistically scary and out of place in the game" rule
@@FortunAdlaichnot to ruin the fun, but the game is actually t-rated because of the slots machine that you can use rift tokens to gamble in and potentially references to suicide from the nooses in subcon forest
I love how the game gives you the “Illusion: 100” during the course of it (it appears as a cute and family-friendly platform game, but it’s in reality a survival horror with demonic things, creepy easter eggs and mysteries similar to creepypastas)
I mean, you don't even need to go too far in the Subcon! On Hat Kid's own spaceship, if you stay on her room for 30 minutes and turn off the music, you'll start hearing distant roars and growls... And don't get me started with the "voices" on HK's head... And there's also the fact that Mustache Girl most likely watched her family DROWN in the sea because of the Mafia (one of Mafia Goons comment that he don't know what happened to the former habitants, but that they made excelent canonballs). Considering that the Mafia saw no problem in explode a little girl with PECKING DINAMYTE, it's easy to believe they tossed the former townspeople inside canons and shoot them at the sea. So yea. This game is darker than it seems.
After looking at some art of Vanessa and looking at what scary shit people have come up with, I imagined her with a distorted voice or a deep cranky old woman's voice, so I kept losing nights of sleep over this, then I decided to confront my fear by watching this only to realize....the voice wasn't nearly as bad as I thought
Regarding all the comments acknowledging how creepy it is, I like the good twist on how they can twist the narrative and theme of this game. That, no matter how innocent it may seem. There’s always gonna be a dark twist! Always. (The game like to kill the kids.)
I just went through this level for the first time. It was absolutely terrifying. My heart was racing whenever she chased me or I had to hide from her. She caught me a couple of times and that was a jumpscare too.
i swear to this day im still terrified of this level. nothing is scarcer. not fnaf, hello neighbor, condemned criminal origins, nothing. dont put someone in a insane asylum, make them play this level and the will be too paralyzed from horror to do anything
Not only did this make me and my wife cry, but this specific level is the reason I did not play it for a full month without watching a walk through to make sure everything else was fine
There is a skip for those (like me) who can't handle horror, but still want to finish the level. If you Google "speedrunner shortcut Queen Vanessa's Manor" you should be able to find it
This level terrified me so much I stopped playing the game for a few days. Jesus Christ, I knew this game had a horror level (thanks to Black Mage Maverick's review), but I had no idea it would be that scary. Props to the creators, because they made a truly terrifying level.
You would think that after months and/or years of not being into A Hat in Time, that I would get over the absolute terror that this level had to offer you would think wrong
Shoot, thanks for a walkthrough, I got hella scared and I didn’t know how to complete it, so I died by monster thing a lot of times. The worst part was the piano and the balloons.
this level made us shit all of our pants collectively but DAMN the music as you approach the manor hits HARD (and reminds me of the Wheatley Science theme)
I will never forget how I accidentally used a skip or through this level for wimps because I was scared and hiding between the barrels in the first room.
I was exploring during Act 1 or 2 and found this place. When that back door/basement door opened I immediately ran away lol. It was so creepy. Just played the level last night before bed and I kinda regret it >_< stayed up an extra 2 hours to get my mind back to normal
The Mario games that A Hat in Time takes inspiration from weren't afraid to scare younger gamers either, the various ghost houses and Luigi's Mansion series are evidence of that.
I remember i played multiplayer on the switch and went onto this level, we then realized one of us couldnt hide, we had to press the button and not crawl under and only one of us could hide, so i sacrificed my friend to Vannesa-
This level legit terrified me back when I first played it, so much so that I’m too afraid to finish it to this day! (Glad to see I’m not the only one who was terrified)
