Never really been a fan of Keystone. Still am not.
Disclaimer: Yes, I am aware that a lot of this video is inaccurate. This is because many statements in this video are made up or exaggerated for effect. None of this video is based in fact, and it is not intended to be interpreted as such. This is not an overarching review of Keystone, but rather an embellished satire intended to amuse and entertain. No hate is intended, and this video should not be used to promote any sort of hate against any aspect of the ski industry. Don’t take life too seriously.

Please read the disclaimer in the description before commenting. Also, what do you guys think of the audio in this one? I had someone engineer it for me, so please give me any feedback you have to pass on to him.

I'm super excited about Bergman express. I'm an expert skier but not the biggest fan of hike-to terrain, so I'm stoked that keystone opened up some more advanced lift served terrain.

I thinks it's the best new lift out of all the new VR lifts in the last 3-5 years. Really opens up the mountain and the bowl has so much space that even the 6-pack can't make the area seem busy.

Ski'd Keystone last Sunday. Berg Bowl was SWAMPED with intermediates lapping it all day. The outback was an entire ghost town, I ski'd tree runs straight to the lift, and it was New Years. They also had the hike-to terrain open on that side as well. While at first I was upset that the Berg tranquility was ruined, it may actually be a blessing in disguise for the outback side.

The novelty will wear off at some point. Not sure what'll happen when it does, but for now, it can be a bit of a blessing.

Long greens are legit for people who pick up on sports quickly, but literal uncoordinated newbies will get wrecked on schoolmarm. I’m an intermediate skier and absolutely love schoolmarm and never ending smooth runs, on days when keystone isn’t busy schoolmarm can be a blast to cruise down and warm up!
@SRGSkiing

Schoolmarm on weekdays is an entirely different world than when it's busy, that's for sure.

Compared to most runs in West Virginia, Schoolmarm would be a blue - but that also seems to be a theme at Keystone. My sister can handle WV blacks and she considers the blues at Keystone pretty hard (but still fun). Couple that with the fact that Schoolmarm is 3.5 miles at high elevation - that isn't a novice run for sure. However, I can see how it can be an excellent run for an in-shape advanced-beginner/intermediate skier.

Keystone will always hold a special place in my heart. Technically Breck was first time but I was maybe 5 or 6. Keystone is where I first really learned, and then learned bumps, and then learned trees. And I remember both North Peak and Outback opening. Everything in this video is 100% true. But I’ll always love the place regardless. (Granted I love all my I-70 resorts)

Definitely appreciate a good hater’s guide lol. Keystone will always be my home mountain. I like it more than Steamboat so far, but you have to know the secrets of Keystone to love it. Keystone has tiger run, some of the best trees around, in bounds cliffs, the pond jumps, Tom’s rocks, the ice flow, and they use to have one of the best parks in the country. I’m loving getting back into skiing, but I definitely miss Keystone.

I've only had nice experiences at Keystone. That said, I usually arrive around 2pm for some twilight skiing. Really excited for Bergman Bowl. Plenty of hike-to left at Keystone for those fans of low-angle alpine.

I'm very disappointed that they shortened night skiing this year. Maybe shoulda put that in the video.

Beginner's perspective on Keystone: Nothing better embodies the "white ribbon of death" than early season skiing at Keystone. Heck, I lapped the heck out of Endeavor and Scout - great novice skiing even if very, very short and served by a fixed double - but it is the only place I felt reasonably safe skiing with my kids. The main benefit think I like about Keystone is that it is slightly cheaper to learn to ski than other Vail-owned resorts - so a good place for refresher lessons - especially on an Epic pass. They also have decent pricing for early season lodging - if you don't mind a short walk at Mountain House. However, the moment Breck was open, I was standing in line with half of Colorado. For mid-week skiing in which I get a room for the night - I much prefer Beaver Creek (thanks for the recommendation!) - it is a beginner's paradise. Unless you have no other choices, Keystone really isn't a good mountain for beginners. The only reason I would consider Keystone a "family" resort is for all the non-skiing activities - like the epic tubing hill, ice skating, and sleigh rides. The best part of Schoolmarm is the view from the top, beyond that, it is a hard, long green - basically most of it would be considered a blue at east-coast or mid-west resorts. I _much_ prefer Cinch at BC - even with the cat-walk sections - for a top-to-bottom experience.

Mozart is surely the most hated run in Summit County, maybe in all of Colorado. And Schoolmarm sees more accidents than I-70. But you missed the biggest problem with Keystone; it's practically in a snow dessert. Quite remarkable how much less snow it gets than all the very nearby ski areas.
@SRGSkiing
@SRGSkiing 5 месяцев назад
It's that lower elevation, but I've found that the lesser snow generally doesn't affect it as much as one might think.

I work at Keystone, and this is a great video, but I will say at 4:00 that you can use the Outback Gondola (OBG) to get to North Peak rather than just Mozart/Santiago for the beginner crowd. We have a great crew this year (and I have nothing to gain by saying that) so I hope when you come it's a good time, man.

I know what the "Mozart" run of California is. It is the run "Drifter" on the back of Northstar. It is one of 3 blue runs on Northstar's backside, and it is the only run accessible by the Tahoe Zephyr Express. Then, in the morning, everyone takes Zephyr Express to get to the backside to escape the frontside morning crowds. This makes Drifter the only run for them, so it gets hella busy. At noon it has small moguls despite Northstar's excellent grooming. I just can't explain how insane this run gets. Also, if Promised Land Express isn't running, good luck with Backside Express lines. Once it took so long, somebody started selling FOOD back there. FOOD! Also, you need to take Promised Land or Backside to get to the base from the backside.

Rant about Mozart is completely valid. It’s an icy mess within an hour of opening and the lift lines can be deadly

One other thing; have you ever seen adequate snow coverage on Last Hoot? I haven't. The steeper section is always full of rocks. If they can cover Lower Go Devil, they should be able to cover Last Hoot.

and Stowe gets multiple rain and freeze/thaw events that destroy the snowpack that Keystone does not experience- for Snow quality it is no contest Keystone crushes Stowe
@rundlet1658
@rundlet1658 2 месяца назад
@@seanray1016 that 100% is correct but I originally commented that to highlight how little snow the Colorado mountains had for the time. Temperatures drop below freezing consistently and therefore snows more around Summit County earlier than it does out East, so the fact that they had less snow than the East was frightening
