I'm skipping the spoilers section because I have this on my Kindle TBR, but the review definitely made me want to prioritize it. I didn't know about the blogger element of it and that sounds intriguing.
I’ve heard such great things about this book but somehow haven’t managed to get to it even though it’s on my shelf. I read horror all year round, so I’ll definitely be prioritizing it. Thanks.
This is one of my favorite horror books of all time. One of few books I've acctually read more than once. I'm THRILLED a booktube channel talks about it. It can be read in various ways and I do not at all agree with your take (though I don't think there's a right or wrong here, just a matter of interpretation). Before spoilers, all his other horror books are almost as awsome as this one, especially "Cabin at the end of the world". That said, spoilers ahead... SPOILERS BELOW I don't think there was any demons involved at all, which makes the entire thing all the more terrifying. All there was, was a teen struggling with mental illness (my guess is schizophrenia) who did not get the treatment she needed due to desperate circumstances, and the craziness that is religion. This teen played along, to please her father, living up to the expectation of a possession. In the end she manipulates her sister in that gruesome final scene.
Thanks for the recommendation! He's definitely piqued my interest. SPOILER TIME That's totally legit! I was trending towards it not actually being a possession, and those themes are front and center in the plot, but there was just enough in the book that leaned towards the paranormal for me to think that there was something else going on. The cold creeping into the coffee shop at the end is what made me swing for the fences with my theory lol
Hail to the beard! I love Tremblay's unconventional approach to horror. If you haven't read it already I can also HIGHLY recommend Survivor's Song. Spoilers: ***** I think Rhyan has a very interesting take on the story. My take is totally different, to me it's far more about manipulation and the impact of familial relationships, with no actual possession at work. ****
Thanks! He has for sure earned another read for me so I appreciate the recommendation. SPOILERS I do think that Majorie not being possessed makes more sense from a thematic standpoint, so I think that take on the story holds more water than mine. I felt that some of the moments had an air of uncertainly which lead me to my speculation.
