Very nice machine. I like that you decided to give Windows ME a try and experience it for yourself instead of listening to everyone who had issues and keeping away from it. Back when i had dial up internet, my Pentium 2 with Windows 98, the OS was pretty solid, but around 1998 when i got cable internet and had to get a network card put in my computer, After the drivers were installed, Windows 98 became unstable and would often crash with the Blue screen of death. One crash corrupted the hard drive and i had to do a clean install of windows 98 again. I put up with Windows 98 for as long as i could and as soon as Windows ME was available, i did a clean install and i have never looked back. It was rock solid. For the whole time i used ME, i never installed any Windows Updates as i heard many people having issues after doing so. To this day ME is my OS of choice for any retro hardware i might come across.
@khyypio
@khyypio 3 месяца назад
Heh, well you´re in the minority there, not having any issues with ME back then :D Like I mentioned at the end, I might do a clean install with Win 2000 but I´m definitely curious about that Updater thing, I´ll have to try that before scrapping ME from the SSD.

Just catching up with videos after a long summer vacation. Glad to see some content from you again, and as always, very classy hardware and video! Keep on keeping on! Coincidentally I'm building a replica of my own Windows Me computer from back in the day with AMD 1400MHz, GeForce 3 and SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum Ex. I never had any issues with Me, but I mostly used it for music production and photo editing. I don't remember it being any more unstable than Windows 98, but everything is crap compared to what came after, Windows XP! ;)

Stunning build. I'm not particularly excited or nostalgic for ME either. I don't hate it. ME just has the vibe of a movie sequel that nobody wanted. It exists but that's all. Stability of Win NT based operating systems can't be beaten. Sure ME has some features added over Win98 but nothing that's too compelling. I like seeing older applications in these videos. Not just games. That's pretty cool. Back in the days when such applications were a big deal. I feel there is some value to make use of them even today. A retro computer in a corner is a pretty cool addition to almost any home. Especially something shiny and cool like that.

I run Project 2000 SR-1 on my Tualatin build as well! :) Nice to see someone else running it too. I love finding good software to run on my machine. I'm collecting PIII and Intel appropriate utilities. Office 2003 is good to as is Visual Studio. I'm currently working on a build of OpenXcom that will build entirely in Visual Studio 2005 on Windows XP SP3 on my Intel D815EEA2U, PIII-S 1.4GHz build. Running Intel X25-M with Startech adapter.

Good result in 3Dmark 2000. I have a P3 1000 Compaq EN SFF Deskpro here that has XP but I installed a GeForce GT440 Low Profile with an adapter 😁 Crazy, it even manages the 65W card with the small power supply. The PC gets around 9000 points with your settings. The CPU can't do any more than that. But I really like your system, it's just that the prices for used GeForce 2 Ultra cards are far too high. That's why I use other options.

As long as it works for you, there´s nothing wrong with trying different GPUs. I suppose I got lucky with my GF2 Ultra, I paid "only" 45 € for it five years ago :D

8:32 You tried to install flash disk driver for 98 instead of USB 2.0 driver (maybe by mistake), WinMe has already integrated flash disk support out of the box :) Those drivers aren't designed to increase speed to 2.0 standard, rather it just adds support for removable drives in older OS. Offtopic: When I hear you, always think about Kimi Raikkonen, you are somewhat similar, maybe because language :)
@khyypio
@khyypio 3 месяца назад
Nope, very much by purpose. The USB 2 expansion card didn't work without drivers. Kimi Räikkönen is Finnish, as am I, so... :D

Mid 2000 Athlon Thunderbird was introduced on socket A and it would have wiped floor with that P3. Socket A in 2000 had DDR and AGPx4 support. From Win Millenium I still remember how it was a really sluggish system. Way worse than 98. It was giving a feeling like no matter how fast your cpu was it would behave like celeron 300.
