Are you in the process or able to Make black history textbooks for elementary, middle school, and high school for history classes for private school? I mean like a full curriculum for history class for kindergarten through 12th grade
A few honorable mentions *Yonas Muhammad Bath, George Padmore, CLR James, Dr. Eric Williams* (1st Prime Minister, HBCU alumni and according to Dr. John Henrik Clarke, the greatest historian to come out of the Caribbean)
I respect and love your work as always but how can you talk about Afro-Trinidadians without talking about the largest Ethnic group? Indians ! , if they are the second largest who is the first? Yes, I understand the emphasis is on Afro-Trinidadians but the East Indian influence is so pervasive that many Afro-Trinidadians are also of East Indian descent. Only Trinidad and Guyana have almost a 50/50 split between Indians and Africans, this has also been reflected in political divisions and mainstream Trini culture also consumed by Afro-Trinis. All other English-speaking Caribbean countries have an African majority except for Guyana and Trinidad so that is worth noting about Trinidad as a distinct point.
@hometeamhistory806 Native American slavery “is a piece of the history of slavery that has been glossed over,” Fisher said. “Between 1492 and 1880, between 2 and 5.5 million Native Americans were enslaved. The 1675 to 1676 war pitted Native American leader King Philip, also known as Metacom, and his allies against the English colonial settlers. During the war, New England colonies routinely shipped Native Americans as slaves to Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, the Azores, Spain and Tangier in North Africa, Fisher said. Native Americans sold overseas occasionally made it back to the United States, Fisher wrote. Others died or disappeared into a wider slave market and labor force, or became established in the locations where they were sent, like the modern-day community of individuals in Bermuda who claim New England Indian descent.
4 When Satan went into the serpent to sin, God cursed the serpent. God is not a homophobe but homosexuality is a rupture with God and if you die in homosexuality, you will perish in hell like the serpent. One cannot be holy and homosexual at the same time. You must resist homosexuality. It is your struggle. And if the serpent did not sleep with Adam but with Eve, you, a man, must not be worse than the serpent by seeking to sleep with Adam. 5 A homosexual can be a son of God according to Genesis 7, but homosexuality will always remain a despicable, abominable thing and hated by God. Homosexuality is an enemy of everything God has created. And when a country decriminalizes or legalizes homosexuality, homosexuality becomes the sin of all the inhabitants of that country. When a country decriminalizes or legalizes homosexuality, then its president and all its ministers, senators and members of parliament are homosexuals. For example: Donald Trump, Emmanuel Macron, Filipe Nyusi, Cyril Ramaphosa and Ali Bongo are homosexuals. And Angela Merkel and Queen Elizabeth of England are lesbians. When a country decriminalizes or legalizes homosexuality, it is the rainbow flag of the homosexuals that floats over the heads of every inhabitant of that country. Philippekacou.org
I love Trini food and Calypso music! I had no idea Calypso music originated in Trinidad. People from this island are so nice too. Did anyone know there were a group of African Americans (called Merkins) who went to Trinidad after the war of 1812. Enslaved people were promised their freedom after volunteering in this war. Their descendants are still there and are recognized as African Americans or Merikans. Most people only know about Caribbean immigration to the States and else where but not the other way around. I’m African American and I love learning about the history of African peoples in the world. ❤️🇹🇹❤️🇹🇹
Ahhhhhh no it's not. Do you have French history? No you do not. So you have waves of people migrating to live and work .... No. Do you have multi racial and multi ethic history ... Nope. Do you have Islamic influence, Hindu influence on a grand scale ..... Nope. War of 1812 When African Americans were given their.freedom.amd parcel of land in Trinidad by the British for their service in fighting the new Americans .... Do you have that history???? Do your history!
As a trini I feel like we don't get our fair share of acknowledgement for achievements and when we do it's always labeled the Caribbean community as a whole...let my people shine
@@jonsheldon69 how much time do we have? 😂 If we list all the Trini achievements, then we got to list all the Bajan achievements, and the Yardie ones, the Lucian, Vinci, Grenadian, everybody. I have relatives in many Caribbean countries, so I choose to see us as one. But, you can rep your flag! Do it!
Family you gotta do this for Afro-Guyanese. I've been searching through my lineage and historical articles but it's muddled with the Indo. Being so close to Trinidad, it's perfect because we relate on a lot of things. 🇬🇾🙏🏾
A majority segment of Guyana's Black population hail from Akan/Ashanti people of Modern day Ghana. There was a Slave rebellion among African Guyanese slaves in 1800's, led by a Slave by the name of KOFI, i am not sure hos full details, but he was descended from Ghana.
@americangangster86 why are you lying to these people. They do not come from Ashanti people. The "ashantie" people only cane about in the late 1800s early 1900s. Not really sure how afro somehow became to mean african . When that clearly was a Foundational Black Americans aka Indians of North America. You have to really be careful when you consume information from someone who is a pan african. They will label anything that looks like us as an african or slap a fake african history on them. From my personal observation and experience I find the most similarities culturally between Guyana and Trinidad. We share so much I common from food to you name it. We are no doubt practically the same peoples. I say this as a Trini.
Love the video. Dr. Eric Williams, our first Prime Minister as an independent nation once wrote a book called The History of Trinidad and Tobago, there are a lot of details in there that will explain our culture and who we are as a people. We've got a lot of history in the Caribbean starting with Haiti, but once you start going through it, you can't help but appreciate all that we brought with us through slavery.
Islands of the blue Caribbean sea, this our native land We pledge our lives to thee Here ever Creed and race find an equal place And May God bless our nation
@Robert Mitchell 🙂 All these things were written/ designed by an individual, even foreign, eg the national flag (subjecttocorrection). Ellis Clark divulged he simply used an African country constitution with a few relevant insertions/ amendments. Unfortunately, the country's watch words have been practically reduced to Tolerance, albeit for mediocrity at best, you know the rest.
I'm so happy you did this video. AMy mom is from Trinidad and My dad is from Tobago. I learned recently from my aunt this history because me and my siblings are the only ones born in the US. Never was taught any of this stuff. Thank You,Bro
This is one of my favorite black and African History channel's. My two parents come from Trinidad and Tobago, and I'm very grateful that you are making a video about us. I'm first-generation, and it gives us much inspiration.
As a regular viewer of this channel, I was pleasantly surprised to my people and country proudly displayed. There’s so much more like limbo, kalinda (stick fighting) , George Padmore, CLR James yet great job overall. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
I would love to see one on my island St. Vincent and the Grenadines... So much we don't know as a ppl.... Thank u for the service u are providing sir ♥️
I've always wanted to go to Trinidad & find my childhood pen pal. I learned from this video that Kwame Toure has Trini roots. Thanks for the video. I enjoyed it.
@@tatamwanaqueenrachaelnZambi he wasn’t, he was part of a group called SNIK or SNICK. maybe he ran with the panthers for a spell….maybe, but he certainly wasn’t the leader, and this coming from a fellow caribbean, so no hate here, just facts.
There is video of him and the black panther talking on him leading, but he refused as he did not want to and as I see it he was not a born America, I will not say something I do not know. We have so much to learn. I now have a picture with him and Martin Luther, may Trinidadains play a big role in this world, that is why the dumb us down with carnival and rum. But I really do not like to do this as there is so much to learn and all truth will come to light. It is really easy to say someone is not speaking the truth then to go see if what they are saying is true
Keep on coming with the Afro-outside of Africa videos. These are truly great shares to show just how strong an influence people receive when met with people that do not come with negative intentions. Or are forced into another's land. Not saying no one people is ever peaceful, but looking over the history of the world shows who seemed to always go somewhere to steal and claim for their own. Extraordinary share, Thank You!!
A section of the Afro Trinidadians came as freed men as a result of fighting for the British in the American war of 1812. They were American Marines. These persons are known as Merikins. Many of them were settled in the Company villages found in Moruga...some of which still exist. There are many descendents of these men.
Also a company ended up around Williamsville but they didn’t like the area they got and called it a hard bargain hence theres a village there called “Hardbargain”
Anytime I see something regarding Trinidad being featured, I make sure to tune in. Even to this day, our ppl don’t get our deserved recognition. Good Job with this!
I am Afro Trinidadian. My Mother’s Great Grandfather is one of the Steuart’s exiled from Scotland. He and his wife took their children to Trinidad where they became successful and even brought the tradition and teachings of the Masons. My Father’s Mother is descended from Black/Original Hebrew people, like the Steuart’s, but from France. She married a Carib/Amerindian/ Native tribal King. Carib’s are a fierce tribe that used cannibalism to intimidate their enemies and the region is named for them. The native tribes are also of darker complexion but their original African nation is unknown since they migrated much earlier. Free Black people have been a part of Trinidadian history even during slavery, which ended fairly quickly. Through the aid of the Creole tongue, we communicated with Haiti and Jamaica and brought about the abolition of slavery in the Caribbean. Haiti first then us, Jamaica and all the rest. The History is deep.
Your efforts to highlight and enlighten the uniquely distinct (yet similar) cultures of "we" Black/African peoples... in the continent AND the Diaspora ...is refreshing and vital... to our ability to ...as you say😉 know thyself. You are a true Blessing To All of us. Sincere and Respectful Thanks! Gordon
The indigenous name for the island was Ka-iri or I-ere. The title Trinidad originated with Christopher Columbus who named it after the Holy Trinity when he encountered the territory in July 1498.
Iere was the name given to this land by the Natives which means "The Land of The Hummingbird". So beautiful. The three hills that Columbus saw upon approaching the land is what inspired him to use the Trinity as part of its name.
Great video as usual, one omission though, Many of the French speaking settlers in Trinidad were emigres who fled Haiti (then St. Dominque) during the Haitian Revolution of 1791-1804. These Emigres also brought French speaking enslaved Africans with them. Keep up the excellent content.
They brought Creole-speaking enslaved Africans with them not just from Haiti but also Martinique, Saint Lucia and other islands.Much of the afr-Trinidadian population has roots in other islands.
Including Martinique, Guadeloupe and other French territories at the time. It was called The Cedula of Population. The spark that was the catalyst for our French and West African Carnival .... And the rest is history. 😂
Proud Afro-Trinbagonian 🇹🇹 here, and I appreciate your work so much. My mother was a CAribbean history secondary school teacher before she retired. Thanks for sharing factual information. That is important to us. 🙏🏽✨
@@lizabetx483 That's my point. You cannot descend from a piece of land. Asia, for example, was once just the eastern shore of the Aegean region, where from a certain point of view, the sun went down, or what we call today Turkey. Caucasian derives from an old word for mountain. India is based on the name of a valley. Africa is the feminine of a Greco-Roman trade wind deity. These are not the names of bloodlines. You cannot descend from an anemoi, or a mountain, or a valley, or a coast. You can only descend from your father. Now, we have a record of the genealogies of the sons of Noah. Shem, and Ham and Japheth, were their names. From these came many tribes and descendants. Later on, newcomers entered, roaming about, and displaced these original tribes, in some cases assuming their identities, in others adopting labels they gave to what they found--hence we have names of continents, based upon nothing but descriptions of places. No such thing as African descent can exist. Call the people Hamites, Kushites, Semites, Israelites instead. From those bloodlines they descend.
Great video as usual. Didn't major in history but remember being taught in high school that the native tribes didn't call themselves "Carib" and "Arawak"; those were European names. The tribes may have been called Kalinago and Taíno.
Carib and Arawak were what we learnt in school in the 80s and 90s. Those students in school in the 2000s and presently would have learnt the more correct terms of Kalinago and Taino.
Thanks for telling our story. It should also be known that some of us are decendants of the United States. We migrated during the war of 1812 for freedom to the Moruga hills. Moreover, some of us were here before Columbus and were instrumental in helping navigate to the Americas. Our ancestors had tales of arriving first before any inhabitants. We also lived in the interior of the Amazon from a tribe called the buticudo as an admixture of nations. We are also decendants of the archipelago Islands like the Eastern Islands. Most recently we came from Grenada, The Grenadines, Barbados, St. Lucia, and Nigeria during the oil boom of WW2. Trinidad and Tobago's African population is very diverse. Also Trinidad and Tobago should be considered as one nation, one people. Two Islands one country
@JaydTrini I mentioned the same thing (African-Americans in T&T)before I saw your comment. That is why I find it frustrating that elements in the ADOS/FBA movement take this extremist outlook that we are a completely disconnected.
Thank u for mentioning this, I've heard about this before, my family on my mom side are from 5th company, and she told me most of the families in that area are related, I've heard that the Americans that migrated to that specific area were mostly soldiers, hence the name companies. I dont know how accurate this is but I'm trying to get s better insight on this story. Much love to the African diaspora, one people no matter where ur from.
Bro none of us Afro trinis are indigenous to Trinidad or Tobago. The original inhabitants are still here. The Kalinago people. That's where the name Carib or Caribbean comes from. We're directly from Africa during the transatlantic slave trade.
Hometeam i salute you. This was a wonderful piece. You were spot on with all the historical facts about the Country of Trinidad. Its an awesome and interesting place love it there. I need to make a financial contribution to your channel for the good work you continue to do. Thanks a million.
Hey brother, thank you for the surprised video. What I remember back then, was that the population of Trinidad and Tobago 50.xx Africans, 49.xx Indians and the rest would be from Syria etc. It is considered a cosmopolitan society. Tobago is a more of a tourist attraction and our dialects are different. I am from Trinidad but I have family in Tobago as well and I have lived in both places. Now I reside in the US and learning more and more of my ancestors' history.
Substance: A+. I have Kittitian, Anguillan, Guyanese, Black American, and Ghanaian ancestry. It's awesome to see "smaller" countries get some love and affection. As a graphic designer, I have to ask you to please use a different font. Papyrus is rarely an appropriate choice.
This was so intellectually refreshing insight about TrinBago. In this little story bits bout us a country,it was beautifully mezmorizing to see ourselves.😅😅😊
Blessings bro nice to know there those out there learning and sharing our history. Thanks for the snippet. Just some additional info, there are those (Africans) who didn't come to Trinidad as slaves take a look into it. Bless and peace.
Fellow trini here🇹🇹 the challenge in attributing it’s history with the current African population is the fact that there has been so much migration from Bajans, Grenadians St Vincentian and many others.. even Tobago. If you talk to any trini, some grand parent or great grand parent is from somewhere else at least.
True but the foundation for the African population originally came from the nearby French controlled Islands which includes Grenada and St Vincent, Martnique, Dominica etc. Cedula of Population 1783. Barbadians came once Trinidad became a British Colony and there have been more recent migrations from St Vincent and Grenada and to a lesser extent St Lucia in more recent history.
Replying to a comment from Jimmy saying black population hail from Nigeria ,mainly Igbos /Yoruba and i dont think so because their are different tribes which comes out of Africa .
Both of my parents are from Trinidad. Many of my ancestors were natives and as dark-skinned as black people, before slaves got there. South America, and even more Trinidad is fairly close to the coast of West Africa 🤫
@@davidmccarroll2280 IDK what but ask Christopher Columbus. He wrote that on his way to the New World he saw Africans sailing back to Africa. ( Look it up ! )
@@victorcurtisvictor1372 Trinidad was actually inhabited by dark-skinned tribes like the Arawaks. Southern Amerindian tribes have been trading and mixing with Africans for centuries, hence why they were depicted as much darker than their ancestors who migrated from Tibet back when Alaska was connected to Eurasia.
As an afro Tobagonian. Im proud our african root are strong. Our african history from Africa to slavery to emancipation is told in stories and songs..many of our coustoms can be traced directly back to africa..Tobago unlike Trinidad didnt have a diverse mixture..we were for years AFRICAN. So our african ties are prominent n strong..
Thanks for this piece, the Caribbean influence is great among African people worldwide. Caribbean people are proud that Grammy Artist Billy Ocean came out of Trinidad. Famous for R&B hits like Caribbean Queen, Suddenly and There’ll Be Sad Songs in n the 1980’s and 90’s. Still acclaimed to be one of the greatest vocalists in R&B.
Thank you for this presentation. My mother is from Trinidad and my father was from Louisiana which to me has some cultural/colonial similarities to Trinidad and Tobago. I once saw my former Nigerian co-workers bring their lunch to work which was a type of stew. I described/spoke to them about Jambalaya, gumbo, and callalo. They were quick to take ownership and say that it is all West African derived and I smiled in affirmation. On another note, I could be wrong and native Trinidadians can correct me but it’s my understanding and of visiting Tobago that a larger percentage of the population of Tobago are of pure African descent.
@@trinibagowaynecaribbean1611 I’ve been to Tobago two times and I appreciated how peaceful it is there. I cannot remember the name of the beach I visited but it was a small beach and pristine as if very few people have touched it except the local population. I hope the island stays that way.
We was the first country who went into slavery in 1498 by Columbus, you are on point from Calypso all music came from it yes we had a major invention of the black panther movement in America.good job brother an I am honored to hear let the world about my Trinidad history thanks a million
