As the last of these beautiful aircraft ends her flying days, I thought it worth providing a history of the design and the role it played over half a century.
Some information on the Vulcan to the Skies team: www.bbc.com/fut...
A video of her final flight: • Video
Where I got the barrel roll video from: • air show vulcan rolls ...

Nice one Chris! Very much appreciated. Last saw her 26th Sept at the great yorkshire airshow. I could say a lot about my thoughts of XH558, but I will discipline myself (!).The show was a fairly quiet one, devoid of aircraft of the calibre of the Vulcan. She did a quiet smooth display with two knats, possibly lulling the crowd into a false sense of security. Then the knats left and she was on her own. Some in the crowd did not know what hit them when she 'was 'let loose' to do her thing. An astonished teenager could not contain himself and shouted out 'THAT IS A FANTASTIC PLANE!'. Seeing the Vulcan display is a shared experience and it was thrilling, amazing and awe inspiring...again. But sadly for the last time. I am very grateful to all who have posted superb videos for people to enjoy. It's lucky we live in times when this is possible. And of course I bow down to the people at the Vulcan to the Sky trust. THANK YOU!

+Jeremy Lister Thank you! I fell in love when I saw her display at Waddington in 2011. The deafening roar of the engines at takeoff that shook you to your very core, it was an experience like no other. To see the agility once she took to the skies as well... I'm so glad I saw her one more time. The VttS team did a wonderful thing, can't thank them enough.

I must point out the the Vickers Valiant did not see service in the 1980s as the narrator in the video states. As most of us already know, it was the Vulcan and the Victor.

I went to Duxford in September 2014, my memory is very hazy from that day, I only remember the Oil Spill Response 727 and XH558.

It cost me my grandfather. He designed much of the electrical systems, when he found out it was intended to drop nukes the guilt sent him into a deep alcoholic depression from which he never recovered. He also worked on developing superconductors for MRI machines, which undoubtedly saved many thousands of lives, yet he could never forgive himself for having a hand in a potential nuclear war.

Beautiful plane. Never heard if the Vulcan since I'm in Indiana where the only time you see Any military aircraft is either at a show or during a football game. But, I do believe a Vulcan was used in the movie THUNDERBALL. Figures then doesn't it??

I believe there are a couple of good air museums in Indiana, but if you wanted to see a Vulcan I think your nearest one would either be Nebraska or Louisiana! Are there any air shows in your state? It does appear in that, some great shots of it!

Rollie faulk got a disaplinary letter for that barrel roll . Stating that it was conducted unbecoming of a bomber. As he also flue in business suit instead of flying gear. To demonstrate the low flying ability of the Vulcan is was told that fly Lt withers took the Vulcan down to around 50 ft over the Moab during one of the regular NATO bombing competition's

I remember seeing this wonderful aircraft flying over my parents house when I was a child what a sight it was ,it’s a pity the UK doesn’t have a bomber anymore that could are undoing in time of war eg If Argentina ever invaded the Falkland Islands again.

It's really too bad and also a shame that these are sidelined and silenced. Absolutely awesome looking with the performance to back it up.

Dedicated heavy bombers are a major capability asset, and the looks on these were second to none.

I sat in the pilot's seat of XL319 the very day that prototype VX770 flew for the first time: August 30th 1952. Was it coincidence, or fate?
