I love how reality tv style this video is. The confessional interview situation reminds me of every single reality tv show out there but with less to zero fighting and basically no drama at all except with her ingredients lol
Alison is here so LET THE FESTIVITIES BEGIN! My dream meal -- turkey dinner with allllllll the fixings made by my favourite chef. No way you can ask for more. This is the pinnacle.
As soon as I got this notification, did I absolutely contemplate quitting my job in the middle of my work day just so I could devote my full, undivided attention to this one hour Alison Roman special???!!! Yes, yes I did.
So one year for Christmas, my grandma wanted to host because she got a new oven...she put the duck in and somehow turned the self-clean function on (she had the same oven for 40+ years so the new one was a mystery to her) and come dinner time, we had a roasting pan full of ashes... thank god for side dishes!
When I had my first apartment, I invited the family for thanksgiving and stressed so much about sides, dessert, etc (because I was super hungover) and realized, an hour before everyone came, that I forgot to put the Turkey in the oven!
That's actually a very expensive Turkey, but New York tends to be an expensive place. I thought you were laughing at Dan because he went a bit too high. Our store sells them for $0.98 per pound. Which tends to be the norm. Thank you for your Thanksgiving special. I'm so grateful for all the work you and your crew put into it. You guys are amazing. Always enjoy it.🙂
I have multiple grocery store ads in my house right now that list $0.78-$0.85 a pound. Obviously not for a super high quality bird like in the video, but over $100 for a turkey was shocking to me.
I think it's likely a heritage bird, or at minimum an organic, all of the good stuff bird. She frequents Paisano as well, which is an old school, high-end grocer. Just different priorities ya know. I'm right there with you, just a grocery bird for me :)
As a Canadian, I love USTG. We’ve been celebrating it as a “Friends-giving” for about 15 years. We get the obligatory family one out of the way for Canadian TG then have the full fun day of celebration on USTG with all the friends who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend due to their own family obligations. Plus, we get to go all out on what would normally be an ordinary dreary Thursday in November here. For the past 3 years we’ve used your entire menu. Thanks for sharing!
Can I just take a moment to say how thankful I am for Alison? While I have alway really enjoyed cooking, the thought of cooking for a group stressed me the F out. She does everything with such ease and confidence. She values simplicity which I think we all can appreciate. I will be hosting Friendsgiving this year in my new home and I can't wait.
the way I GASPED when I refreshed my subscriptions tab and this video appeared!! Truly lifted me out of a post-vaccine booster sick slump and got me excited to try these recipes
I'm from Mexico, and we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but I'm so cooking this for my family on Christmas! I really enjoy watching this, and I already know I'm gonna enjoy cooking and of course stressing this out!
Here in New Mexico, we put red chile on our mashed potatoes. Like the same way your make red chile for tamales, but no meat, the pour it over instead of gravy. I know y’all dry all kinds of chiles and make sauces from them as well, so thought I’d share this tip from just over the border with you. We use New Mexico chile mostly, but I throw arbol and guajillo in my red chile sauce, too. 😋
Actually, in November (instead of early October when this was filmed) you have an entire patio to use as your walk in (out) fridge!! I live in the south (ATL) and always pray for cold weather on Turkey day! Keep the wine out there and anything else that needs to stay cool, as long as it’s not going to freeze! Happy Thanksgiving, Alison! I always look forward to seeing you pull this off and it always looks like you are having a blast! 🍾
Love this! It's officially the 'holidays' when we get Alison's Thanksgiving video. I love the cooking part, but mostly I just love seeing everyone sitting around the table eating and visiting. It's the best.
I think it’s awesome that NY people come from all over the world, make friends and become family :) love to see a room full of friends in her thanksgiving ❤️
I’m gonna be honest here and say the most I’ve tried to cook is like grilled cheese but your videos bring me so much joy like it doesn’t even matter. I really gotta see if watching all your videos brings me some knowledge when it comes to cooking
I need to have “just remember that it’s all going to be okay, carry on” just on loop at all times! You’re such a calming presence, I love watching your videos to destress!!!
The first Thanksgiving Special where I want to edit nothing! Makes this year so easy because I do not need to arbitrage from 6 different sources to come up with my full plan. Thank you so much for putting this together . I am so excited to pull this off. Now all we need is the playlist you plan on playing on the big day!
Love this!! From the shopping for the turkey, to the guessing of it's actual cost, to draining the pink, watery juices before roasting -- it's the most realistic yet enjoyable 'what it's all about' Thanksgiving show/video/tutorial out there. Thanks for keeping it real and fun😊. It actually gives me more confidence on the big day.
I adore everything about this! Especially her "Family Therapist" vibe when they cut to her in the glasses...so calm and reassuring. "We're all going to eat, something..." 🖐🏻🤣
Parents used to reserve a 30 pound bird for $80 each Thanksgiving. Organic birds are apparently raised on gold feed. (I googled "16lb turkey." Target was selling a Butterball for $35. That guy nailed it.)
Wow that is your best video ever. I love how you aren't just teaching us how to do Thanksgiving, but you're there as a therapist for our Thanksgiving anxieties. Very well done. Food looks amazing!
You need to have a raffle and choose one person (hopefully me!) to join you for Thanksgiving. I know how to operate that can opener that baffles you and I love to clean. We are 18 years and 1 day apart and i feel like you're my culinary sister. You even convinced my husband to finally try anchovies :) Thank you for another awesome video!
You should try it and invite a couple friends, it's a wonderful thing! For a lot of us it's the best holiday because its just all about food and family, no stressful gift buying (although I love Christmas too). Cheers!
Wow didn’t think I could’ve just watched an entire hour long special in one go…but here I am. This was so good. So many dishes but all simple, clean and yet comforting. And of course entertaining because..Alison duh💕
I love Thanksgiving and have viewed all of yours (multiple times)...having said that, this was my all time favorite! You are so relaxed in your big home now and with the full sized oven and fridge! I still say you need a podcast with Sarah Paulson, AND you need to play her in a movie! xoxox
It’s July 2022 and it’s the middle of the night. Woke up with acid reflux and I’m watching Allison make Turkey dinner because she’s entertaining as hell and I love watching her cook.
I've made this stuffing for the past couple years now for Friendsgivings, Thanksgiving, and Christmas and it's always a hit. I also bake my own sourdough so I put sage and thyme in the dough itself. Also, fresh sage is a MUST for it. Like a lot of it.
I made my very first turkey using this recipe for Friendsgiving and it was the best turkey I’ve ever had and everyone loved it. THANK YOU ALISON!!! Your recipes never fail me 🙌🏼
Oh Alison, you’re personality at any table. Can you please come to our thanksgiving this year, I’m going to be watching this on repeat in the parking lot of target when I need a break from ours . But like, please come live on my shoulder and narrate my life.
This was a big undertaking, Alison! No wonder you felt stressed! You took on a huge menu and lots of time consuming details. The Special you did for 2023 is much less stressful bc you did less than half this amount of cooking! It’s not bc you l feel more grounded” or “organized.” It’s bc you scaled back to a dinner that was more manageable! Don’t worry! People love the stress & panic bc they all can relate if they ever hosted a large, important meal.
“Roasting in the void” and holding the leek like a living child were just two of my favorite parts of this video. I am SO making that apple tart and I’m gonna try to get my mom to let me make the stuffing but I think she might be committed to the kind you can buy in the bag…
Lol the descent into madness and loved the message at the end. I never comment but this was so fun to watch and one of your best videos. More hour long episodes please!
I love to see how crowded your table is. I've crammed more guests than should fit at my table and no one ever complains. I think it makes things more cozy. I've even asked people to bring their own folding chairs because I didn't have enough seating. Again, no one seemed to mind. Your table looks festive and friendly and I'd gladly bring my own chair to have a seat at your table! Thanks for all the great ideas.
This is an instant classic! Having watched your previous TG videos countless times to get into the cooking mood for TG and Xmas, this will definitely be on rotation for many years to come. Looking forward to TG now! Also, can I get an invite to next years dinner? :)
Thank you so much for this amazing episode! I loved the dialogue and all of the work you and your team put into this!! I also really love your chill approach, for some reason the stress always creeps up out of nowhere even when I don't have guests! Loved the entire menu! Really want to make that gratin and mushrooms and green beans... And add a stick of butter to my chunky mashed potatoes (which are my fav too!!)
First…your apartment is gorgeous. Second, I LOVED this video..the content was entertaining and full of useful information. I especially loved your thoughts at the end, concerning gratitude. Keep the content coming. Happy Thanksgiving!
For a hot second I thought that the narrator was Aidy Bryant. Love all things autumn, food and varying shades of burnt umber so I'll watch a few times anyway. Happy Thanksgiving and Hanukkah and Merry Christmas!
Yes, Alison 🤗 so excited to tackle the holiday cooking this year 🙌 keep bringing us these delicious recipes and wonderful videos ❤ Hope you have an awesome week and holiday💞
I’m ready for another cookbook. And I love the quality of your videos and how they focus on fresh food. I literally changed the way I view ingredients and how simple a dish can be and still taste delicious.
*runs to grocery store* I am so excited for this! I'm cooking for my parents this year and I told them that we're having an Alison Roman Thanksgiving, no questions asked. I also have to ask with every hope that you'll see & reply...what nail color do you have on?!
My third time through this video - taking notes. What slaps me across my forehead is Alison picking the wobbly celery pieces out of the stock and loving every bite. That’s my favorite thing. It’s like bone marrow of the veggie world. Right? Celery is the best. There are a lot of favorite things to this video. Even to my old 67 year old self who loves learning …. Thanks Alison for being a fun teacher,
Ok so full disclosure: I miss the cramp & chaos of the other kitchen. 😅That meal was expertly executed with zero space! Cuz Alison is the bomb like that!💕 But this was definitely a lovely meal prepared and perfectly timed (how does she do that!?🙀)
Loved this (and YOU!) sooooo much. Thanks for doing this far enough in advance of Thanksgiving to get us all mentally ready for the big cook. Your chunky, crispy stuffing and the secret Grey Poupon mustard addition to the gravy will both be debuting at my house, too, this years. Happy Thanksgiving!
I be waited all year for this! You are always there for the great recipes, humor, and the warm fuzzy feelings, especially after the past almost 2 years. I’m so glad you have a full size fridge that you can be thankful for. I can honestly say we are thankful for your show. ❤️🙏🦃🍎🍐🍊🥬🥔🍗🌰
This is my favorite menu from Alison. I've been making the Thanksgiving meal for like thirty years, and I am always on the lookout for simple yet really good. Def would do this menu again.
My all time favorite Allison Thanksgiving video is the one in her previous tiny apartment that included defrosting the Turkey in her bathtub. Hilarious! 👏🏽
@@sarahlane9121 When I think of a slow clap I’ve always pictured Ross doing it in a Friends episode and the pure joy when he does it as a gesture of approval and respect.
Are you taking applications for new friends? Love all the sides. Now that my family is basically plant-based, sides are what the holiday meals are all about!
This was so great! I totally agree it's all about the sides,so some years I've done reverse seared pork loin, which is so much easier, and goes just as well with the same sides,of which the dressing is always our favorite too. But I do pay about $35 for a 20# farmette raised turkey here in northern Illinois so maybe that's where David is from?
lol, same. I live about 5 houses down from a Turkey farm where they raise beautiful birds for that price or less. I live in the country though and there are a lot of Amish and Mennonite farms near here. Happy Thanksgiving !
Made the Turkey and the gravy yesterday and it was delish!! I’m a pretty decent home cook but have never roasted a Turkey before. I was lacking turkey confidence for sure. Your guidance steered me in the right direction. The Turkey was PERFECT. Super moist breast. Not dried out. Can’t believe I nailed it. 😱. And the gravy! Yum!!!
I'm cooking 10 cornish game hens and then going all out on the sides. Protein is to be cooked perfectly with simple seasoning and the sides are where all the deep and complex flavors come from. To me thanksgiving is all about the different plates of food. Not the turkey. Perfect video like always. Happy Holiday's!
