Making your own pullup bar is for those who love building their own stuff; it could also be a quick son-and-dad project. You can make a very strong pullup bar from hardware parts under $20 or even less if you already have a piece of an old pipe, fence post, or a shovel handle you do not need. I guarantee it is going to be better and way stronger than anything you can buy. Here is a brief parts list and then I go into more detail on how to assemble it:
Two tension bands......................$2
Two brackets...............................$4
Two carriage bolts with nuts and washers..........................$1
Two hex screw with washers...............................................$0.5
The bar (fence post with optional caps, shovel handle or a 1 inch gas pipe)........................................................................................................$9 to 14.
Tension bands are the most important thing for the project: they hold the bar. They are sold in Home Depot or Lowes in the fencing department and come in two sizes: 1-3/8 and 1-5/8 inch. 1-3/8 size perfectly fits the shovel handle or a 1 inch pipe; 1-5/8 size fits the 1-5/8 fence post. Your selection will depend on your grip size and whether you want to use wood or metal.
If you have all the parts, assembly will only take 10 to 15 minutes.

he said his roof is crooked, which is why he used the leveler. The leveler shows him where it need to be to be level. Although it looks crooked it not. It the roof. But the bar is straight is as far as leveling goes.

I’m a carpenter and I like your design and materials used... I’m going to use a carriage bolt rather then a lag bolt to secure mine... Great video!

I built this at home a while back. It works great. The thick bar is good because it makes you only use your fingers. And not the thumb. Increasing grip strength and proper form.

it will be very hard to drive them into the wood, believe me. Unless you pre-drill holes -- you need a drill and be able to use it!

Yea but the hole roof came down when he got on the bar so wether it's level when it's just on the wall it still drops as soon as he pulls on it. So it's not level and eventually that wood will fail

Drill pilot holes. I am not a structural engineer. I am concerned that the dynamic load of doing pull-ups will weaken the mounting brackets because bolts are not secured by nuts.

Tilted bar and you might be overstressing the old pillar. Just saying you might want to recheck positioning, people walking above and you doing workout might be enough for disaster.
@Theryansmithproject

Too bad the bar is extremely off level and that's gonna jack your arms up. Plus there's roofing nails coming through the roof which means you can't go very high. And no muscle ups for you

I decided to spend a little more money and made a welded adjustable bar with handles for doing abs and dips, but not as practical as this one though, and a lot more expensive to make :-P tks for posting;-)

I could find everything at Lowes/Home Depot/Menards. EXCEPT!!! The Tension bands. Couldn't find 1 5/8 Tension bands to save my life. Had to order them off line. The 1 3/8 Tension bands were to small for the bar. So yeahh.

Where can I buy fence post at 8ft. Long for cheap!?? And where to buy extensions connectors to maje a stand alone 8ft. Long pullup bar? Like as big as a gymnast pole.
@Boris5Z
@Boris5Z 9 лет назад
To make a stand alone bar you'd have to make metal (which means welding) or wooden triangular stands and then fix your bar on them. You probably need to get someone good at welding or carpentry to help you , and do not expect it to be super cheap. If you just want a bar longer than in this video, check the pluming dept. in home depot. They have a variety sizes of metal pipes, and you can choose the right size for you
