I've owned bikes for over 50 years including 1500 & 1800 Goldwings and downsized to a 1996 Helix five years ago. I performed an overdue complete mechanical maintenance @ 22,000 miles, while the visual appearance was showroom condition. Being 70 now the Helix is everything that I need and want nowadays, and is just perfect for the little bit of riding that I do, or will do before my final day.
I just got an 87 today. The owner was an elderly woman who passed away. She babied this thing. There was a quart of oil and a spare belt in the trunk. I hope it's as much fun as my 86! I wish honda would bring the helix back with bigger tires and a 300 or 400.
The plug wire may be old and giving a weak spark. Changed mine with a piece of copper core from NAPA off their bulk roll. The wire is changeable and goes into the old coil and boot.
I'm on my third helix a 2007 red one with a top case. 17k miles. Great scooter but goes thru those small tires pretty fast. I'll never part with this one. Have a reflex and a shadow as well.
I owned a 1987 Honda Helix I bought new. It was the best scooter I’ve ever owned. 👍In 1991 I started a new job and got razed too much by other riders who mainly had Harleys. Long story short I sold it and wish I wouldn’t have.
Got a '92, but not in such fine optical condition. I replaced a lot: Bumps, fuel pump replaced by a smaller vacuum pump, variomatic, clutch both by Mallossi, new seat cover. Caburator bracket to avoid fast damage of intake rubber. Cold start device, ignition coil. I added a USB port. Grip heating, seat heating. I like this maschine. It's my prefered bike compare to KTM 390 Duke or 2019 SUZUKI Katana 1000. I own the Helix since 2 years. The only thing I miss is abs on the front wheel. I would feel more secure, because it's to less weight on the front wheel. It tends to block when you brake hard at the front.
Are you sure that's a 1986, did you replace the plastics? The original 1986 models used silver embossed emblems, the bikes in the late 1990s switched to the sticker. Also the older seats I remember, being more grey then black. I could be wrong. In my area of New England we only got the "Candy Glory Red", in 86 other parts of the country got the "Pearl Shell White".
@@myntultryp3685 The vin plate says 1986, and the vin number matches the vin that is stamped in the frame. As I said earlier, the plastics are most likely replacements
Damn , I have a elite 250 but I want the helix, I’m 6’3”. I think it would suit me better, but they are a lot of fun without being a production like riding a larger bike, just hop on easy and run to the store or whatever.
