This is a twice fired, stoneware bowl I made. It is hand painted glazes creating the image of Quetzalcoatl the feathered serpent.
This is hand formed, hand built, using a large traditional puki.
I use a couple different pukis to make these round bottom bowls. Each puki is different in depth and diameter so i can make different bowl sizes.
I made my own puki tools, from thick clay, and bisque fire puki to about 1880 degrees F.
I do not fire piki higher because i want them to keep some amount of absorbency for it to work properly as a puki like making a bowl like this in the video.
This bowl is huge.
Its over 10 inches tall, and 14 inches wide. (The puki i used to make this bowl is 14-1/2 inches across and 5 inches tall.)
The final firing on this bowl was cone 6 (2240 degrees F)
