All these people saying this is dumb and they shouldn't be so close gotta remember we're the ones taking over their territory, they have just as much right to it as us. We gotta remember this world isn't ours, we're sharing it. And you seem to know what you're doing and they're respecting your claim to the territory, and more importantly you're respecting them so.. this is actually pretty awesome. You're living the life!
The bear population is growing in Western NC, which is one of the reasons for the study these guys are participating in. There are far more bears living around Asheville now than there was say, 20 years ago, before all the development.
I partially agree. It can be dangerous if a black bear is rabid; 1 tested positive for rabies here in canada (rare if ever) or a very rambunctious hungry bear BUT we encroach on animal habitats to their extinction daily. We presume they're violent when it's we humans that are perpetrating violence on animals in so many ways ie zoos, circuses, poaching, etc. daily. That includes ourselves. All be all, I'd say Mr. Conley has got a piece of heaven compared to the average marriage or family!!
@@james44mag31 not with black bears. A brown or grizzly.. yeah u in some sh*te. Black bears will avoid a fight 99% of the time if it's not trying to kill and eat
🌞😁 pumpkins (squash) are yummy for animals. Good source of fiber. Give it to my dog every day. Keeps him "regular." There is always pumpkin pie, but I doubt the bears know how to bake. I could be wrong however. 😁😁
Not that this isn't the case on practically every animal video on youtube, but you really have to love how this guy obviously LIVES out there around these bears, they've seen him, they know him, and more importantly he's experienced in dealing with them, yet you've got all these "experts" who apparently know a ton about bears that he doesn't.
You act like people havent died or been seriously injured all throughout history by doing something stupid, surviving, then continuously tempting fate because they incorrectly perceive themselves to be experts rather than merely lucky. That is this guy, and he obviously enjoys the bears, the adrenaline rush, and the RU-vid views. None of it makes him any sort of bear expert.
@@leq6992 Patrick isn't doing anything stupid. He enjoys his porch and allows the bears near his home, but he sets and firmly enforces rules for the bears. They clearly recognize him as the dominant figure.
@Louise Martin He does it because he likes seeing the bears and people on youtube like seeing the bears too. Is every upload on youtube attention-whoring?
This home is very close to other homes. What would happen if neighbors children are out playing and these bears are constantly cutting through their yards.
... and there you could think there are countries you can bring your bear-friends to the pub. And drink many beers with them till the morning, talking together about good old times...
I have always wondered why he doesn’t feed them. Now I realize how dangerous it is be a source of food for them. He clearly sets the limits and that’s amazing!
He feeds them bird seed. I understand it’s like crack cocaine for them. Bears need to look to themselves for food. I hear that feeding them is overall, quite dangerous. They are adorable.but wild animals. And, strong.😐
@@anjastarcevic4273 he said I hope he NEVER gets mauled to death by the bears.. so what's wrong with you? Are you hoping Patrick gets killed by the bears?
Have no fear this bear will not starve. Soon as the guy with the camera goes away it will eat those pumpkins or at least try them. I think she'll like the seeds and sweet pulpy stuff.
I hope she found some food soon. Updated: 9/14/22-Erased earlier negative comment. You are not giving the seed to the bears, but to the birds. I'm sure the bears look at it as getting the left overs or sometimes getting there first.
lol you think these white suburbanites care about the health of the ecosystems they're encroaching on? i mean they own the land so everything is their's right? of course this guy leaves seeds out and throws food waste in an unlocked garbage bin.
@@judithryle2113 This was a comment I had made based on what I had heard people weren't to have on their porch around bears. But now I trust what Patrick chooses to do. I've updated my post. Oh I think they sometimes come up just to see Patrick.
The place of humans is in civilization! Forest place is for animals. Whoever wants to advance to the animals habitat must share food with them! That man alters the local ecology, deflorests and then harms the food sources of animals as well...And sorry, but I don't believe this statistic that says the bear population is increasing; but I do believe that the rate of those shot down by hunting rifles is great, including mother bears , always more avid for food!..And every time a mother bear slaughtered , she is condemned along with her cubs too!
Fuck these commenters. Do what you want my dude. I know damn well, you have the camera in one hand, And a .44 Mag in the other. Respect to your curiosity.
That is a mama bear. She has cubs that she is trying to find food for. Why settle for a 10 pound pumpkin that might be a snack for 1 of them when there's 180+ pounds of fresh meat right in front of her. She may not attack for the first several times because she is sizing you and that "thing" you are holding up. Once she realizes it is no threat, she will attack. Then she will break into your house and help herself to your cat, your dog, your kids, or whatever she wants and so will her cubs as they grow up. When that happens, instead of 1 bear to worry about, you will have 4 and if 1 of those cubs is a male he will be a lot more reckless than his mama...and a lot bigger. 1st rules of camping or living in bear country...leave no food out for bears to be attracted to 2nd rule....NEVER ENCOURAGE A BEAR TO COME IN YOUR SPACE. You have broken both of those rules. You are a bear attack waiting to happen.
I totally agree with this statement. It’s not if an attack will happen but when and how badly you will be injured vs just dead and devoured buy bear and family. Humans and wild bears in close proximity never ends well. They are checking you out as a potential food source either that you provide it for them or that you will be that food source. You’re thinking it’s an exciting and wonderful experience to have them keep visiting but this is encouraging and emboldening them to see you as harmless and one day they will decide the time is right to have a taste of you.
The noise and lip snacking that she is making is a sign of aggression. Be very careful of her. I hope you have someone there to engage the Bear if needed because "No" could become "Oh No!" in the blink of an eye.
Not true, the air blowing and teeth clicking is a sign of apprehension/fear with black bears. Still incredibly unlikely they're gonna attack, unless you're talking about grizzlies, in which case you better get the fuck out of there when they start making that noise. He shouldn't have let the bear get that close though, should have got up and scared it off before it got that far.
one of those states that builds suburbs willy nilly on their habitats and has crazy white people moving into them who think they're like golden retrievers. so my guess is the carolinas.
The chomping is a sign of nervousness, apprehension, not aggressiveness. She also is not wearing a collar, you must be thinking of another bear. I get confused, too. There are so many!
Fucking Canada and their beautiful encounters with such amazing fauna. Canadian child: "Dad, there's a moose in the shower!"; Canadian father: "well don't bring it to the kitchen, its filled to the brim with beavers in here already aye".
So did it all start from a little treat u gave, or they found u and U gave in. Cause a Bears memory is so intuned they can go bk 20 yrs. Either way please always be on guard.
@@emmadempsey4947 yeah he is! bears are like pets! build homes on their habitats, leave food lying around, and take lots of videos of it! lol yall white people are funny.
@@emmadempsey4947 Bears are wild animals that have and will attack people. Therefore, they shouldn't be around people. It's common sense, actually. I didn't think it was that hard to grasp.
Why do the people in the comment section type like they actually know what the bear was thinking. In addition to, if you noticed that bear stepped down from the stairs away from the guy and then made the nom nom noise.
If the bear really wanted to attack this guy she prob would have already rather than backing off and then making the nom nom noise. Its prob an indication that it wants food.
Sorry, I now see how that could be misinterpreted. She was determined to get up on the porch, where she'd found birdseed in the past, and I wasn't letting her. The bears, for some reason, show very little interest in raw pumpkins. I don't know about pumpkin pie but I suspect they'd be okay with that.
Tempting but two problems. They may grow too fond of it and get killed or they take it the wrong way and you get killed. Sucks for the bear either way.
@@SpiraSpiraSpira True. She was unhappy with the human, but hope-fully not upset enough to attack. He do much, but I suppose it's always possible for her to be in a bad mood and take it out on him. Like if she was indeed hungry. Hunger can make creatures quite irritable. Hm... :/
You keep this up buddy, and you're going to be the recipient of your very own Darwin Award. I love how you say "no", like a hungry bear gives a damn about the noise coming out of a meatbag's orifices
I think this is a wonderful experience with bears but just be careful. It's sad that we took over their land and we need to learn to share it like you do. Just don't want the bears to get shot to death because you allowed them to get too close. I worry about both you and the Bears.
Animal also have good manner and behavior .... Even they know that pumpkin is a food they still don't eat that because respect you... U should open n slice that pumpkin for the reason them to eat it.... they all look hungry ...
gromby me too. Lol bear don't care about Jesus dear. They would eat him too if they would want to. But these bears seem to want to be his friend though. Just sniff or be petted a little. Maybe chew on a finger or two, but still totally worth it :)
This is insane its hard to tell when bears attack, they just switch on in a second from looking curious and cute to vicious. Hope you had a powerful gun on you lol.
For goodness sake - these poor bears are just hungry - just give them some fruits , nuts or veggies ( and there are those poor hungry cubs ) ! What is the point of videoing these poor hungry bears - just to show how (pathetically) macho you are in defending your “ turf “?!
I think you mean well, but feeding bears causes them to view humans as a food source and come to them every time they’re hungry which eventually ends in tragedy somewhere down the road. Bears shouldn’t be habituated to humans, they should be kept wild. I agree it sucks to see a hungry animal, but they have instinctual knowledge of how to feed themselves and survive.
