A Jacky's Life is a song by Tony Morris, sometime called The Bard of Whitby Town, about the life of a Donkey on the Sands. Jacky is a local word for Donkey. Beside the 199 Steps to St. Mary's Church at Whitby there is a steep cobbled road known as The Donkey Path or The Jacky Trod. At the top is a field known as The Donkey Field or The Jacky Field where Donkeys were kept. There is a well there which is attributed to St. Hild or St Hilda who was the first Abbess of Whitby Abbey.
