Thought the same thing. When world champions discover something for the first time gives us mere mortals hope too. Bernardo's enthusiasm with all his guests, no matter what they have to demonstrate, is inspiring and infectious. Always try to see something new in something no matter how many times you've seen it.

Our coach (Wim Deputter, BRASA Belgium) is already teaching us a similar mount escape -- it's pure gold and as Xande says, preparation is crucial. As soon as you see that you're getting mounted you need to fight to place your hand to your opponent's opposite hip, that arm's elbow close to your body and the opposite leg flat on the ground. From there you have options, but what I usually do is get to the side, "backstroke" my other arm above my head and try to post first on my elbow, getting up and reversing the position completely, so that I end up in my opponent's full guard. All the while you must not lose the connection of your arm with the opponent's hip. Since I started using it I feel more comfortable being mounted than being in someone's side control.

Over 40 here. Saturday morning was my third class. My upper delts, traps, and neck have never been so sore and tight. Both of my collar bones are sore in a couple places. Both of my arms are (lightly) bruised. My left knee has "mat burn" (lol). My nose started bleeding (???) that night after my first class, which was a morning class. My central nervous system was so rattled from my first rolling session that my hands couldn't stop trembling. I'm hooked. (The question is: Will my body adapt quickly enough?)
@BL0HARD

Remember the Ju in Jujitsu, Judo and Goju ryu means gentle or yielding way. I used to muscle and force everything when I started too but once you learn some moves and formulate a game plan you have more of an idea what’s worth expelling energy to fight for. If you are bigger and stronger than some people where you train and you can win by brute force you are still doing yourself a disservice because you never really learn the magic of the art. The best guys are the small ones that have to use the art as intended and beat stronger opponents with technique and brains.
@davidwells9926
@davidwells9926 3 года назад
Short answer is yes, your body will adapt. The rest of the question, quickly enough, will depend. Are you willing to give it a month? 6 months? A year? Once you answer that question for yourself, what will you do if your body doesn't meet your timeline? Quit? Allow more time? The BJJ journey is life long for those who choose it. I started 4 years ago at the age of 46. I jumped in with both feet and it took my body a good year to adapt. AND, I was in the best physical condition of my life. I had just completed the SealFit 20x crucible event. I had to work through MULTIPLE injuries that sidelined me at times. This is for anyone - You absolutely have to know your 'Why'. Why are you entering into this new lifestyle? And it can't be some superficial reason. It needs to be tied to a deep intrinsic reason - an emotion even. Otherwise, you will quit. For some, quitting is okay. For me it is not. ONLY you can answer these questions for yourself! No one else on RU-vid...

@huxco
@huxco 3 года назад
One thing you can do before initiating the technique of the video is to press your head against the mat so that the opponent will have a hard time trying to get the arm under your head. That will at least buy you some time to apply the escape technique, some opponents will even give up on Ezekiel and search for something else.
