Getting mounted sucks, but these techniques and concepts help it to suck a little less. Far from a comprehensive guide to escaping mount, this provides a nice framework for getting out of this difficult position. I hope this helps. Let me know what you think.

I am starting BJJ at my fiance's gym. His best friend is the instructor and he's amazing. Before I started I had to tell him that I was attacked by a male coworker and assaulted, violently, several years ago. I had zero ground game because I didn't know anything to defend myself with. Just kicked as hard as I could until he pulled a knife on me to make me be still. My coach is gently training me, only having me roll with girls for now. The last mount, the high one, makes me panic if I get stuck in it. THANK YOU for these. I won't forget them and it will help me get through class without a full-blown PTSD experience. Gratitude, sir.

@@KnightJiuJitsu do you have other examples of getting out of high mount, or basically if someone has you pinned with their knees on your shoulders or on both sides of your head? I'm short, just a little over 5', and my legs are short lol. Unfortunately, I cannot do a closed guard because I can't lock my ankles together behind the back of my rolling partner unless it's a tiny little person. If you have a video I overlooked with more things that might help me, let me know please. Thank you!
@dianecenteno5275
@dianecenteno5275 4 года назад
@@kimuralove1096 if you cant get guard, you can place foot to knee or hip and push. This can cause your opponent to fall to one side and make it easier to roll himover or shrimp over from the opposite side. Regarding knees on shoulders. Bad situation. However if you can move before full weight placed, shrimp under him and out the back while reaching under and lifting up on his foot for leverage and help to unbalance. Work on shrimping for better positions . If you can, find a good BJJ school or a Judo school that teaches the Kosen or Newaza groundfighting ( unfortunately may be hard to find). Good luck!

Before u tube people learned the hard way and now we take advantage of using this valuable training of others years of hard work. This channel is real technical knowledge. Im a white belt and this training is saving me on the mats. The upper belts enjoy white belts because that tap means success. I don't worry about tapping my main goal is just passing the guard. This stuff works. I support this channel because years of hard work is mine when i have an extra 10 min. to press a button and train. I save so much money in gas and time. Its cheap insurance for survival. If your a white belt you can't afford not to.

I like how this expands past the Gracie approved way of escaping the standard mount by capturing the posting limb and rolling the opponent in that direction. Another thing I'm taking away is the importance of having a good shrimp escape. Can't be lazy with those!

Yoooo, I was about to leave a very similar comment. I'm disabled, my disability is I was born without arms. So the scorpion move is a 1/1 in my bag of defensive tricks. 💯👍🏾 the only difference is Ive never rolled backwards. I hook my heel around the neck, shoulder or into the chest and flip the mounter backwards. 😊👍🏾 I've never taken self defense classes but this gym looks really promising. I might just stick my head in to learn the proper way to scorpion. lol Thanks for commenting the name. 🤙🏾💯✌🏽

This video was awesome. I just subbed. Simple in explaination but carefully broken down. I am a black belt in TKD and have gotten a lot of requests as to how to respond to being on your back and the only sweep I've ever learned was the simple "grab the collar/arm secure the leg and bridge" but I've always felt like the problem with traditional martial arts is that there is a "one size fits all" approach. I know I might be overdoing it but that's one of the coolest things about BJJ is that you guys literally go over ever scenario. Much respect and I'll definitely be checking your videos out more!

+CCSIZ Much respect to you for looking for the best answers available, even if it isn’t necessarily within the parameters of your system. TKD simply doesn’t have the best answers for ground positions, submissions and transitions. And that is perfectly ok. Thanks a bunch man! I just started classes so of course I end up getting mounted by blue belts, this video made it super easy to understand for someone with no background. Looks like I'll be starting a mini marathon of videos on this channel

Great techniques! I've been doing MMA for a year and often get stuck in a mount. Right when I thought "but my opponent always stands by my armpits" you guys showed what I can do it that position! I'll try to apply this next time!

My 9 year old son has been doing jiu-jitsu for one month. I've noticed he gets stuck when someone has the mount on him. Im going to drill that very first mount escape you demonstrated with him before his jiu-jitsu class tonight. I'll drill those other escapes with him at a later time. Great video.

I've been out of the martial arts for a long, long time now. This way very easy to follow, tremendous explanation of these techniques. I would encourage anyone to watch this because such a high percentage of altercations will end up on the ground. If you're on top, not many worries. What if you're on the bottom of a larger, stronger man however?...
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 6 лет назад
+dsauce223 These are effective for larger top opponents. If the person on top is smaller, these techniques aren’t really as necessary (although they will still help save energy). If you perform these correctly, these rely mostly on leverage and timing and not power, so they are effective for bigger opponents. Not sure if you can tell in this video, but my friend in it has about 35-40 lbs on me, and these still work pretty efficiently. Thanks for your question and comment!

I have heard from Gracies that every 40lbs is a belt. we have a young athletic 6'2" 340lb guy in our gym. none of this will work on him as he is just massive. you have to run, be suer defensive. if he gets on top, you dead :)

Mina Tarki theres a small man in my gym who sweeps fatters people
@VestigialHead
@VestigialHead 6 лет назад
+Mina Tarki Just as long as you realise this is not the same for an untrained person. If you are trained in grappling and you fight a 340lb guy who has no training you will be able to dominate. It may be a bit harder due to the extra weight. But if the opponent does not know how to use the weight he/she loses most of the advantage. The big guy in your gym is training so he is a different puzzle.
