Beterbiev took it home! The only moments where I thought Bivol might be in control were when Beterbiev hurt him at the end of those rounds, and that’s where champions are made. Beterbiev kept pushing Bivol back the entire fight-relentless pressure, like a freight train that won’t stop. Credit to Bivol though, he stood and traded more than I expected and did better than a lot of people thought. It was closer than people imagined, but when you close rounds like Beterbiev did, you leave no doubt who the winner is. Bivol did enough for it to be close, but not enought to win. Let’s not forget history has shown us the importance of a strong finish. Think of Oscar De La Hoya vs. Felix Trinidad-De La Hoya coasted the final rounds, and it cost him. Bivol didn’t coast, but Beterbiev just sealed it like a true warrior. Or take Marvin Hagler vs. Roberto Durán, where Durán fought bravely, but Hagler’s strong closing rounds won it for him. Judges got it right here, just like when Pacquiao beat De La Hoya-Oscar never recovered after that, just like many others after taking a close, hard loss. Beterbiev closed like a champion, and in a fight this close, that’s what makes all the difference.

I applaud Bivol for his professionalism, character and strength through this whole process. Lack of consistency from the judges has cost Bivol his dream.
