Although psychedelics offer great promise for healing, access to psychedelic medicine will be an important barrier to explore. In the sixth event of our Psychedelic Revival series, we’ll discuss what avenues are being taken to address these issues of access and equity in a proactive manner.

Joseph McCowan, Psy.D, is a licensed clinical psychologist and psychotherapist, currently working in Los Angeles as a co-therapist in the MAPS sponsored Phase 3 clinical trials of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD, He is an alumni of MAPS’ MDMA Therapy Training for Communities of Color, held in 2019 and he currently supports the MAPS therapy training program as a training assistant. Additionally, Joseph works with the California Center for Psychedelic Therapy where he provides Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and Psychedelic Integration Therapy. Joseph is deeply passionate about furthering education and awareness of the healing benefits of psychedelics for communities of color and in working to improve mental health outcomes for historically underserved communities. Joseph received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
Hannah McLane MD, MA, MPH is a physician, psychotherapist, and entrepreneur. She is the founder and clinical director of the SoundMind Center, a psychedelic therapy center in West Philadelphia, aimed at providing accessible and inclusive psychedelic care and education. This is the only psychedelic therapy center in the entire Philadelphia region and focuses on training clinicians, treating patients, and conducting research with ketamine, MDMA, and eventually psilocybin. The SoundMind psychedelic therapy training courses have trained over 125 therapists and clinicians. Dr. McLane’s expertise lies in the areas of psychedelic ethics (informed consent and distributive justice), cognitive diversity, and contemplative studies. Lia Mix, MS, MFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and chair of the CIIS CPTR Alumni Association. She is the founder and CEO of Enthea Health, an insurance company dedicated to consciousness-focused healthcare. She has over twenty years of diverse experience in the behavioral health field, including fifteen in managed care organizations. Lia earned her Certification in Psychedelic Therapies and Research (CPTR) from the California Institute for Integral Studies (CIIS) in 2016. She continues as an adjunct faculty for the program. Lia is a systems-thinker who has helped achieve insurance coverage for new behavioral health treatments and implemented industry-leading clinical programs at a national scale reaching millions.
Rick Doblin, PhDRick Doblin, PhD, is the founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). He received his doctorate in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, where he wrote his dissertation on the regulation of the medical uses of psychedelics and marijuana and his Master’s thesis on a survey of oncologists about smoked marijuana vs. the oral THC pill in nausea control for cancer patients. Rick studied with Dr. Stanislav Grof and was among the first to be certified as a Holotropic Breathwork practitioner. His professional goal is to help develop legal contexts for the beneficial uses of psychedelics and marijuana, primarily as prescription medicines but also for personal growth for otherwise healthy people, and eventually to become a legally licensed psychedelic therapist.
