Hello! I have a doubt. For what dependent variables can you measure a mean? Can you list all potential dependent variables where we will have to repeat our experiment to calculate the mean? This is usually given as "Prepare a table for recording your data" as the first question. Thank you in advance!
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 6 лет назад
It includes all the data in numerical form. Concentration, height, temperature etc. Usually if the material provided is more than enough, you can repeat... or... repeat in your head and just write the answer (not a good suggestion but it works haha)

Thank you so much. Your videos are always so helpful. :) One of the practical questions ask to count number of chloroplasts in the field of view. A sample shown under microscope that is divided into four sections, and I am supposed to count number of chloroplasts in a quarter. I am very confused about whether I should count the cells on the line (boundary) or not, should I count the cells on the line? Or should I ignore the cells on the line and only count the cell inside the quarter?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 6 лет назад
You are welcome ! Count in if at least half of it is inside. But at the same time don't worry too much because the answer in MS is always a range, not an exact number.

what magnification did u use to calibrate ?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 2 года назад
Hi, the example I use is a typical situation when u use x100 obj lens and x10 eyepiece. But do notice that the values can change as different eyepiece graticule may have different sizes, so do not memorise the values and magnification, it should be calibrated every time when you want to use the eyepiece graticule and when you change the obj lens.
@abulsyed4851
@abulsyed4851 6 лет назад
Hey thanks great vid, also cant you do stage micrometer division divide by equivalent eyepiece graticule units? So 0.1÷40 =0.0025mm Gives same value.
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 6 лет назад
Hi there is no rules about this, but I would think it's better do it the other way as stage micrometer is your measuring instrument here, it has the actual value.
@thegreatnumi
@thegreatnumi 9 месяцев назад
How is the smallest division in stage micrometer 0.1mm?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 9 месяцев назад
Stage micrometer is like a ruler. The length of a division is already fixed when they are made.
@meliasummers6730
@meliasummers6730 4 года назад
Hey David , I have a question. If it asked for the actual size of the specimen after you calibrate they eyepiece graticule would you first a line the specimen and work out it's length in e.u and then divide it by the magnification ? Great video btw .
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 4 года назад
Hi, if you have calibrated the eyepiece you can just use it as a ruler, there is no need to measure the specimen in e.u anymore.

@@DBiologyClassroom hey sir in the questiontoday they gave us a caljbration already for 1 eyepiece it was =15micrometer And the diagram with the length around the width labelled L = 80 mm Stage micrometre length was 50mm and i changed it too micrometer by multiplying with a 1000 And no magnification was given so what would be the actual length?

can i know how much is the magnification of 25um of EG?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 4 года назад
Hi, Magnification is how much bigger you enlarge something. So there is no fixed value. It just depends on the size you enlarged to and the actual size of that thing.

@WafaMustafa-gb6rx
@WafaMustafa-gb6rx 4 месяца назад
Hi ! Great video ! I have a question. I am a private candidate, so I can't fully visualise what is happening here, so please help me understand. What does the scale bar represent ? If we can use it to get the image size already then why are we measuring the size of the image again ? That part was a bit confusing for me. Like what did 20000 and 20 represent to give us the magnification?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 3 месяца назад
The scale bar is telling u what is the actual size. For example, if a 1cm scale bar says 2um, it means every 1cm in the photo is 2um. You can't use the scale bar to measure the structure directly, that's why we use it to calculate magnification first, then only use that to calculate the actual size of a structure.

Why is it not possible to see a cell and the stage micrometer scale at the same time?
@DBiologyClassroom
@DBiologyClassroom 4 года назад
A stage micrometre is usually a transparent sticker pasted on a slide. So when you are placing the slide with stage micrometre under the microscope, you can't place another slide with the cells you want to view.
