Lesson Objectives: To be able to understand how Lenz's law can be applied in the context of transformers. To be able to to explain how the direction of the EMF induced in the secondary loop depends upon the change of flux linkage it is experiencing combined with Len'z law.
Description: This video follows on from my previous video on Len'z law. Lenz's law states that the EMF induced is such that it opposes the change it is experiencing. In this example we look at how the current in the primary loop impacts the secondary loop. The key thing is to note that we always want to oppose the change. As the field lines enter the secondary coil the secondary coil wants to repel the field it is experiencing. But look carefully, as the current in the primary coil is turned off the secondary coil wants to bring back the field and wants to attract it back. Look carefully at how the direction of the field induced in the secondary coil will influence how the EMF and thus current in the secondary coil.
