Similar story. I attended all races at Daytona from 76-90. Every year I would stand at the fence of the pits in my homemade STP patched jacket my mom made, and wait for autographs. In 1980, I guess the guards at the fence felt sorry for me and pointed to the bottom of the chain linked fence. At the same time, they reached down and rained the fence, which was loose from the post, just enough to allow a 13 year old to slide under. Richard Petty took time that day to sign my autograph and take a picture. I never knew if the picture was good until I received the film back from Florida based "Eckerds" and it was perfect. Richard Petty also changed my life that day giving a fatherless boy a few mintues. He is a legend and someone I still follow and try my best to role model each day.

Richard was always a fan favorite. Being born & bred in Randolph county NC Richard had to be my favorite.

Back when I worked for Petty Enterprises in 1988 I was the only person on the team that was also a paying member of the Richard Petty Fan Club. I was a member before I got the job and I just kept renewing my membership for years and throughout my employment at Petty Enterprises. I traveled to several Fan Club events with Richard.

Met Richard a couple times. I remember them all and no reason for him to remember any of them. He is the nicest person (all of you are). Last time was at the museum near Christmas 2023. My oldest son and I brought an album I put together of unpublished 60s photos of NASCAR as well as Richards 1992 entry form for N Wilkesboro. Planning to leave both for Richard to sign. Well Kyle and Richard (and you and Rebecca) came out and made our day. I left the album with Kyle who wanted to spend more time with it. You guys are the best and I have more albums to show some other day.
