Awesome video! Also the Tantramar marsh. There is an easy ADV alternative to the four lane highway. High marsh road. Goes from Sackville (near my house actually) straight across to Aulac. Then there’s Eddy Road that crosses from Aulac to Fort Lawrence. Takes longer but you avoid that god damn marsh.

@@RaggedRoadsMoto-y1m I’ve had some sketchy drives across that marsh in my cars! One time I went over on my CBR 600 and I had to lean into the wind the entire time. Sketchy shit. The marsh roads I’ve mentioned are gravel but they are well maintained. Might have to pass a tractor or two. Helps guys riding small dual sports like myself get over without too much fuss. The Tidnish\Baie Vert loop is great if you have the time. There’s some nice beaches nearby.

Omg I can’t wait to watch this. My KLX is freaking awesome. I’m turning my V Strom back to a sport tourer.

Wife rides a tiger 900 I ride Vstrom 650. We just added KLX 230 and XT250 to the fleet really enjoying them for running about and trail riding. Also thinking about putting street tires back in my Vstrom for touring

@@davemarshallrides LOL that’s almost exactly my situation. My wife bought a TW200 for dual sport and around town. I love my VStrom but they really aren’t great off road. I know these TrailTrash guys disagree. The VStrom is a great sport tourer. I cut my Givi skid plate off this week. Every fastener was stripped and it was a pain trying to do service on the bike. My next tires will be road tires.

@@colpitts350 I have a set of almost new Anakee 3 tires which are awesome on the road in my shed . May put them on before an upcoming trip to NL they are much nicer on the road compared to the Shinko 705s I am running. I Wife loves being able to take on challenges with her XT250 she wouldnt dare do with her Tiger, and my KLX230 is a joy to take anywhere local.

@@davemarshallrides I have Shinko 705s too. They are a little rough on road but not too bad. I was filming myself doing highway runs on my KLX230 yesterday. It can do it safely but it’s not the most comfortable thing. I’m very impressed with my KLX230 off road. Reminds me of old TTR230 but with lights.
@davemarshallrides

@@colpitts350 I find the Shinkos a good compromise they do well on roads and I take my Vstrom on gravel roads/trails no issue. This upcoming trip os about 5K over 3 weeks all pavement think it would be worth the 100 bucks to swap the tires . Wont want to see the STROM when I come back will leave the streetish tires on . I didnt realize how much bigger the KLX is cmpared to the XT. I am only 5 11 but am far more comfortable on the KLX and better half at 5 1 has no issue with the XT but wont ride the KLX finds it too tall. I want to try that High Road you talked about we go to Parrsoborro NS quite a bit would be nice to see the marsh from a different perspective.

Doing the Tantramar Marsh section of the Trans Canada Highway on a Honda Monkey is probably one of the sketchiest things I have ever done! 😂

@@RaggedRoadsMoto-y1m thanks so much! I enjoy your videos too as they remind me of home. (I grew up on the dirt road at the bottom of Black Rock mountain rd.)

My sympathies to that poor rear tyre (tire) that is going to be destroyed by the end of this trip. Small displacement dualsports work fine if you have time.If you are in a hurry then you can't beat having a bike that you can crack on with. Best trip I had in years was a random camping/hotel trip around north england on one of those himalayan's. But I had all the time in the world. My KTM390 adventure is a good mix of small and capable on and offroad. equivalent of cad 2.55 a litre for petrol here now , it was about 20% more than that at one point.

Great episode! Just the practical info I'm trying to find. I'm looking for the right dual sport to transfer to off-road riding (have used too many of my lives on-road over twenty six years. Killerkarz can have it). After this episode, tending toward a DRZ as a KLX will probably feel too small fairly quickly (6'1"/210lbs). A '06 KTM640(620) has nabbed my attention though, it was a good bike, its a better size and power, its simple, was reliable and straight forward maintenance pre-bells and whistles. But its 18 yrs old, and there's the "KTM broken in the shop all the time" tales we hear... any helpful experience?

As the guy riding the KLX 300 and having ridden the DRZ400 back to back…. I would go with a DRZ400 if I was to do it again. It’s slightly heavier, but the extra power and planted feeling are more of what I’m used to coming from off-roading a Vstrom. As far as KTM’s go… You’d be hard pressed to beat the performance, but as you said, the mechanical failure horror stories and my budget oriented mindset keep me far away from them. Hope this helps!

Thanks man! Greatly appreciate your exp. DRZ is the conclusion I see as the one slowly and surely me arriving at. My '16 650XA I have set up to be pretty tough off road but my my non-Stromatopolis-Hero skills, finds it much too porky, front wheel pushes into stuff instead of rolling over, low clearance and road suspension... I love it and its seen me through rough shit, but since I'm leaving road riding, a real dual sport is what I need - and I am of the same budget oriented, fix it myself mindset as yourself. Hope we cross paths someday. Thanks again.
