I'm really wanting to get into adventure riding. The V Strom seems like it fits my bill. A lot of folks on the internet say that it's not made for off road though. The 800 DE seems like it's a good fit. What sort of mods do you have on your Strome?
This is not a criticism, but all through this video the emphasis has been about the ohms reading of the pickup coil, a 200 ohm or 400 whatever ohm pickup will work, but everybody seems to have completely overlooked what the extra 2 wires do, the black and white wires. These stators have 18 poles, only 17 poles are used for the charging (the 3 yellows, 1st phase 6 poles, 2nd phase 6 poles, 3rd phase 5 poles), the 18th pole is is independent and that is connected to the white and black wires in the plug connector. The purpose of this is a safety feature, the ECU detects a signal from that one 18th pole Coil, when the engine is turning, if there is no signal or an incorrect signal then you will not get a spark. It detects that the engine is rotating in the correct direction, it prevents "kickback" from the engine when starting which can shatter the starter motor train gear, quite a few 4 stroke quad bikes have this safety feature built in. As I said the ohms reading of the pickup will make jack difference, it's the 18th coil that is the problem, it's either been wound incorrectly or back to front. I have only known of a few of these Chinese replacement stators for these bikes actually work straight out the box. I have sold a few that I have had to rework that 18th coil, and they all then worked using a 200 odd ohm Pickup coil. This is one of many stators I rewind for a living.

Can you please tell me where this is, I looked at your map in description but nothing on it is marked Demons Point, google maps turns up nothing as well.
Your Dunning Kruger philosophy rant hit so close to home. New grad in the ER me hit a point where I felt like I could handle anything that came in. Then about a year later I realized…….anything can come in
Can you share what tires you run through those trails on and any suspension mods? I just started riding my 2022 DL 650 XT off road and am looking to upgrade to tires to Tractionator gps or big block but I will need to ride highway to get to my off road spots.
Hi Jim, Running the Motoz Tractionator ADVenture tires in this video. Those tires are pricey but I chose to mount them again this week despite having a set of Motoz GPS available as an option (equally as expensive). They’re confidence inspiring tires that wear extremely well for how aggressive they are. Suspension: The best value for money modification you can make is the DDC kit from Cogent Dynamics.(BUY THE SPECIAL TOOL: it simplifies things so much). The DDC kit will absolutely transform the front end handling and Cogent are great folks to boot. They sell a “World’s Edge” shock for the Vstrom as well which is 👌I took the vstrom on the motocross track to test it out and was not disappointed.
@@TTADV thank you for this info I really appreciate it. I think I’ll order the Motoz tires for my Vstrom😀and look into the suspension kit you recommend
Great video footage of incredible off road riding. Look forward to more of your channel. I’ve got a Vstrom 650xt and am learning how to ride off road. How he can handle that mud on the stock 80/20 tires I don’t know. What was his tire pressure at I wish I knew
These look out trails remind me of the cherished Rankin Family song Gillis Mountain. I may have had a Rankin family phase this winter waiting for Nova Scotia to thaw out.
I’m a long time sport bike rider who has found the joy of dirt late in life (55 yrs. old). I currently ride a 2023 Honda Trail 125 and am looking to add a KLX or a CRF300l. I like them both! I’d probably save my pennies and upgrade the front & rear suspension, some hand guards, and a few other things. Thanks for the great review.
You could access Cape Clear from the Baddeck side using Crowdis Mountain. Taking on the Cheticamp trail shown in the video in a pickup would be a HUGE mistake. (Not passable) 🫣Safe travels!
Ugh I need to do some maintenance on mine. Spark plugs and air filter for sure. I watched your video on the “easy” tank lift. Colin it didn’t seem very easy!!!
Bring her down to the Annapolis Valley and we’ll get the air filter done in a couple hours, no problama! Spark plugs are giant pain in the ass though… do those with your valve check… so like never. 😂
Watch all the reviews from everyone and the 650 is a road bike with no ground clearance, right??? Wrong! Love the 650, love seeing what its actually capable of.
I just bought a VanVan myself. I am looking forward to doing some trails like the ones you did on this great video! I notice an aftermarket exhaust on your VanVan, can you say which system it is? Thank you
What a vid man! I just picked up what looks like a spitting image of that bike. 2011 vstrom and after watching this ,I’m in trouble. Good fun awesome trouble.
Would you take your bike exactly optioned like it is BUT made brand new or a Brand new 2024 KLR? Please share your thoughts, trying to decide between the two
Great question... Both are great machines. If I was going to be doing more road riding I would take the Vstrom due to the shorter suspension and more power of the V twin. If I was running more off-road I would probably run a brand new KLR. A DR650 is also a good choice if you want to customize your ride for your specific application, as the aftermarket support is HUGE. Hope this helps! Best of luck with your purchase!
@@TTADV Can you make a video going over all the mods on your Vstrom and why, Tires, Suspension, Lightning, Grips, Sprockets etc… As-in “ I went with this bag, I’ve had others but this one is more durable attaches better, zipper doesn’t fail like the others I had etc “ type thing
The 125cc and 200cc Suzuki Van Van weren't really built to handle such condition due to its wide tyre displacement. A Yamaha DX or DT...yes...thats different they have the clearance beneath the engine. A Van Van for beaches and dry level dirt tracks and road work. To really enjoy this type of off-road work...buy a scrambler...
They’re pretty equitable all around. Certainly more adjustability with the KLX suspension from factory, but you’ll be happy running either one of them!
the only reason im considering the dr650 over the strom is the weight, id rather lift 400lbs over 500lbs but ill probably go for the strom because of the creature comforts for highway driving
