Glad to see you younger guys still squirl huntin. 60, never shot one out of a boat of any kind. Was one of my meat groups back in the late 60's and 70''s! We were poor and most meat we ate we hunted or fished to get it! I would not trade one meal for a 5 star meal! You keep the tradition going Son! And teach your kids! God Bless.
I'm 15 and my family lives the same as you just described. we hunt everything and eat everything. me and my cousin hunt squirrel almost everyday of season. I just wanted you to know there are still people like that and I pray that it will continue
There's nothing like a good squirrel hunt and coming back home to clean them and throw them in some flour and fry them up or put them on the grill...as a boy back in the day it all started for me with my grandfather's Springfield model 15 22 rifle
Well done! As a youngster, I spent many fall mornings hunting Bushytails in Ohio. Loved to get in position before dawn and watch the woods come to life. Some of my fondest memories. Thanks for posting
36 years ago for me. Im 46 now, my dad and I started chasing bushy tails again 2 years ago. I enjoy and cherish that time with him. Cause I know that those days are numbered.
My grandfather used to take me squirrel hunting. He told me when he was a child his father would send hem into the woods with three .22 shells and he had to return with three sumpins to eat, usually squirrels. He prefered rabbits because they had more meat but squirrels were easier to find. He used a single shot that I still have today. For an idea of the setting this was rural Georgia and Grand Daddy was born in 1896.
Your channel is likely gonna start to boom now that you've got near 50k subs. You've got one of the best hunting channels on RU-vid. You've put on the work, soon you'll reap the rewards!
I guess I was about 9 or 10 years old and my oldest brother bought an old truck. I was checking it out and found a 22 cal pellet gun with no stock under the driver seat. Took it and oiled it up and it shot like new one! Killed many a squirrel and rabbit with it. I’m 44 now and taking my son out this weekend to 🐿 hunt!!
CHICKEN OF THE TREES!!! 😁 GREAT VIDEO CATMAN! I DON'T THINK MOST PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGE OF SHOOTING EM FROM A WATERCRAFT AND VIDEO RECORDING AS GOOD AS YOU DID. GREAT JOB!
The majority of people kinda favor the Ruger 1022... seems like!!.. HOWEVER I'm 50 years old & I started out with the MARLIN BRAND back in the 70's with one that was called the REVALATION back then & that thing held 18 rounds in the Tube & was a TACK DRIVER!!! I still own the Marlin 60 that just holds 15 in the Tube but I've NEVER had the first HICCUP with it
We also squirrel hunt with a Marlin Model 60 - the gun has been in our family since 1984 and has killed tons of squirrels, and even a few rabbits. We have several squirrel-hunting videos up on RU-vid.
The older Model 60's are great. I had one 50 yrs ago and shot it so much I wore it out. I still love squirrel hunting to this day. The Model 60's of today just aren't the same gun.
Hey Catman, hope you are doing okay brother! It's Deer season and we haven't see or heard from you in a while.... hoping everything is okay in your world. Thanks for making great videos that we all look forward to watching.
I am a hunter through and through. Been doing it for 35 years. My son is now 11, and is getting his first .22 today! However, I am also a conservationist. Here in Michigan, the limit is 5 a day. But when I find a honey hole, I generally take 2-3 squirrels and call it quits. Too many times I heard the older folks say "Shoot, years ago, we could come out here for weeks and limit out every day! Now, there ain't a damn thing here". Gee, I wonder why. Conservation is the key to a successful and continued hunt. For every squirrel we take, 5-6 won't be born. Just a thought.
Season just opened on the 27th this year. With the drought and record heat I’m waiting till late September or October. I shot one this morning as a test and it was just as I feared. As soon as I picked it up, my arm was COVERED with fleas!! That squirrel got two shade lighter after the fleas jumped off him and onto me! My brother down in Florida said the ones all around him are covered with boy fly larvae. So I’m not sure about the first months of squirrel hunting will be worth it this year.
A GREAT Video!!! Enjoyed watching those squirrels fall. I never have hunted from a boat/canoe, but it sure does look like it would be a bit of a good test to see just how steady you are. I had to subscribe after watching this one!!!
Hey man. Been watching your videos. Your pretty much the reason I switched to a saddle. Your explanation of why you hunt out of one and being a public land hunter it does make a hole lot of since. Keep up the deer videos. Just got my first doe with a bow the other day. Always wanted to do it.
Greetings from Smith county tn, watching your videos while I patiently wait on bear dear/pig hunting has inspired me to fix up my old marlin 60 my dad bought for me when I was 6. I'm 31 now and haven't squirrel hunted in 15 years, thanks for inspiration
Hey man. Try a Mr. squirrel whistle early in the year. It will be the most fun small game hunt you will ever have. I’ve had them sniff the end of my gun barrel and jump over my legs trying to find the distress squirrel.
shooting a rifle from a canoe or kayak is absolutely no joke. im very impressed. and you recorded it? bud if you need a camera man holler at me lol i live in northeast alabama
Nice shooting! I recognize that Ozark cooler in the front of your canoe... ;) I've had a canoe for 50 years, but up where I live, we don't have the eating kind of squirrels, just fishing and cruising around exploring and deer hunting. Good video, enjoyed watching, Thank you.
Boy that squirrel hunting sure is fun thanks for bringing us a long cat man. Really enjoyed this video God bless you brother and from the Midlands of South Carolina we will be watching
I thought about going squirrel hunting this weekend, but I think I'll wait until it gets a bit cooler. High 70's and lower 80's make my squirrel hunting hormones start to come alive. Nice video though, you had a good morning with all those grays, and the two bonus fox squirrels. Now comes the chore of cleaning and skinning, but it's all part of it.
That’s wearing them out now! They were in there thick! I’m experimenting with the Tactacam FTS (Film Through Scope) this year specifically for squirrel hunting. Our season won’t come in till nearly October. Y’all have problem with bot fly larvae aka wolves up there? A lot folks won’t even shoot them down here until the first frost. I just watch the ones in my yard and when they look clear I go hunting....
That was some great shooting! Squirrels + leaves on trees can be frustrating ground hunting. You worked hard on this vid, great job! Wanna warm up my squirrel gitter now.
Started hunting by sitting on the ground under my dad in his tree stand and if we didnt see any deer I was able to shot squirrels. 410/22 over under awesome gun
@@mr.matthew84 I was asking the model number of the .410/22 My granddad had one that was a Savage model 24. My pop has it now, hope it's mine sometime. Great little combo gun. All the best, John.
I just found your channel, I'm kind of new to TN, been here almost 3 years, S. Cumberland Plateau. Went deer hunting last fall but haven't done squirrels yet. Nice to know you can hunt from the water.
