A Little Bit About Me 

I find solitude and quiet to be essential... I describe myself as 'noise intolerant' and find that 'silence is golden'... the sounds of nature are very soothing.

Just recently found from Australia. Thank you. We were 4 children of an impecunious widow and a lovely Irish Man entered mother’s life, we all admired and loved him. We live in the high country SE Qld..92 acres and glorious trees. We have retired and relaxed…I garden, husband does heavy help, restoration and screen “stuff” and our finances. Birds and quite glorious.

I just love your story. Mine is close to yours. At 48 my life changed. I dealt with cancer. From that it changed my life. Moved out to our small cottage. We use a wood stove for heat. I let go of smoking. I let go of alcohol. I let go of meat. I’m quite the introvert since I’ve quit drinking. I think that was my liquid courage. I make cover ups during the winter and sell in markets in the summer. I live in central Canada but my origin in County Down Ireland. 💕

My grandmother was my biggest influence also. She was Irish and came to America in 1916. She missed her homeland so much and was never able to get back. She was a true lady and had a great sense of humor; loved her grandchildren deeply and she and I were very close I think partly because I looked just like her elder sister who died before I was born. I miss her every day and she’s been gone for many years. I dream about her often. Thank you for sharing your lovely, private world. What a gift!

Your story is amazing and inspiring. I lost my husband of 53 years recently and didn’t know how I would be able to live alone after always having him by my side. It is a new adventure for me and your videos give me the courage to know that I can still have a life living solitarily. I will have to take over all of the things I took for granted that he did. Hi Colette and Jack, I have been spending so much time with you at Bealtaine Cottage joining in your life via your beautiful sharing. It really resonated with me when you were sharing about your Grandmother and how she taught you it was perfectly fine to be in the quiet. I have taken years to realise that is perfectly fine for me to prefer to be living with just my dogs, and not wishing to be in the world as it is very often. I choose when I go out and join in. The joy for me of finding spirit sisters and brothers, with a love of Mother Earth and all that inhabit her has been a blessing. I like how warm and nice you sound. You found yourself and you are living so much more than any city crowd since you are so close to nature. I just subbed today because I just found you! I could literally watch Jack's face lovingly watching you for hours. No lie. There is so much love in Jack's eyes. I wish i was there in that cottage!! I am here in Biloxi Mississippi...... my Ancestors departed Dublin Ireland in the 1700’s for America .Grandma said it was her husbands people from County Mayo, some were Scotts......Grandma was German and Cherokee, they were here before America was founded, her people fought alongside the French against the British in the American Revolution .I went to England and Europe but I never got to Ireland or Scotland. Thank you for this video.

The colours are just spectacular! Doesn't seem 5 minutes since you were talking about the leaf drop just starting, and now you have a glorious carpet of them. I love the sound of rain on the roof and windows, especially when it's dark outside. With that, the sound of wind in trees, birdsong and bees, silence is a pleasure that can be enjoyed by anyone at anytime, and is SO good and beneficial for us. Natural silence (the absence of man made sound) is one of the earths greatest medicines.

You're a brave and resourceful woman, and I believe the energy you pour into the earth will be returned tenfold. Sometimes it takes a while, but it sounds like you're settling on what works best for you. I asked my husband to get the book for me as a gift for the holidays, I love a good read, and wish to support your permaculture revolution, as I like to call it--and support you, too!

Hello✨ Your channel popped up here (45 miles north of Seattle Washington) this morning and the timing seemed as auspicious as the weekend I just experienced. My 66th BIRTHday was Sat. 30th of October and last night my sweet cat of 11 years, named Baggins, passed into the night and I buried him this morning in a “no-till” composted garden mound that I will devote to flowers next season. So I am happy to send you BIRTHday greetings on your 66th and I also want to acknowledge your sweet pet’s passing of who I can tell you dearly loved so much. I believe I understand. yep taught my kids quiet time, while they were quite young, it was to teach them patience, and that not everything, was now, no not meditation, they could carry on doing whatever it was they were doing, but they mustn't squabble or talk, if we heard them the hour would start again, so, it was also a challenge of self control, and yes, it has served them well, over the years

When I saw your cottage name I was drawn lol. I’m 58 and been battling with myself about moving to Southern Ireland, for four years. I spent my childhood in Ireland in 1960s hard days then obviously. But it’s in me to find that inner peace I need. I have Fibromyalgia that makes things harder. I rescue mostly Lurchers and somewhere with a Irish acre would be lovely.
