Honestly, interacting with children is one of my favourite things about cosplay! The last con I went to I saw a little girl dressed up as Ladybug (from Miraculous), and went over and said hello, then asked if I could ask some questions for the Ladyblog, basically just acting as if I was speaking to the real Ladybug. The look on her face was absolutely priceless, she was grinning from ear to ear and it was so sweet.
You could start saying that, comic-cons are super power free zones, so no superpowers are allowed to be used here. In fact, maybe conventions should post those kind of signs to keep up the Illusion for all the little kids who do show up.
Toothless aweeeeeeee that's the cutest thing I have ever gotten the pleasure of mentally picturing. How to Train your Dragon has been my favourite movie since I was 11 ot 12, so 4 to 5 years now and I just aaah I love human Toothless designs they are so varied and cool.
I was dressed at Natsuki from doki doki literature club, I'm 18 in a month so I'm still getting used to being a real adult, and this like 10 year old girl knew who I am... From doki doki... The very dark psychological horror with a trigger warning at the beginning. That girl is a badass.
I once had a little boy think I was a magician at Disneyland. I was 15 and on a trip in my school's choir trip, and we had one free day to just hang around the park in groups with our assigned chaperone. Well, while me and my best friend in my group were waiting in line for one of the rides. I had been using one of those big mad hatter hats I bought as a souvenir to hold my stuff and my friends stuff, such as a camera, our phones, a bottled water and candy. Well I had gotten thirsty in our wait to ride the ride, and so I pulled out vitamin water from the hat, and the kid behind me WENT NUTS! He was very young, and I would say he was 5 or so maybe 6 idk. Anyways, he was loudly asking "ARE YOU A MAGICIAN?!" and he had caught me so off guard, but he looked so happy and excited. I didn't have the heart to tell him I wasn't, so I awkwardly said yes. He was telling everyone in the line around us, pointing at me saying I was a magician. When he was asking what else I could do, I just thought to myself I had some Mickey mouse suckers that I had bought earlier that day, so with his mom's permission (who was getting a kick out of this btw) I pulled out a orange Mickey mouse sucker from the hat, and gave it to him. He was SO HAPPY, and asked if it was a magic sucker, and I again fibbed, because the sweet boy had such pure joy on his face HOW COULD I SAY NO?!
I frickin love cosplaying kid-recognizable characters. Running around as Chat Noir at Rose City and having kids come up to me was one of my favorite things everrrr they're just so wide-eyed and excited! (also i saw you passing by at Sakuracon and i was like :0 but I was too shy to say hi lol)
THAT IS THE CUTEST! Awww yes please totally say hi next time, I'm just an awkward dork I promise haha!! ;u; (Also if we're ever at the same con and both wearing our Star vs. FOE cosplays we should totally do a shoot! ;u;)
Hidden chair legs sewn into the cape with a small stool connector on your back.... instant levitation 😁😁😁 bonus points if you install a tiny fan on your back for full floaty effect haha as always awesome video and super dope hanging with you at Sakura Con! #HiWelcomeToChilis #InstagramLicks
Just for future reference what I probably would have said (if I didn't completely flounder, cuz let's face it that would probably be more accurate) would have been something along the lines of, "one of my superpowers is I can read minds and your dad is wondering if you want to get a picture?"
That was a wig?! I thought it was your hair holy crap. And this is a happy awesome video love watching them. That little girl sounded so adorable and it was hilarious hearing what you said to her.
Omg I love little kids at cons XD theyre always so darn cute! Thankfully, I know how to interact with these kids pretty well, as I was a babysitter and mentor for first grader for years. Last year, I was at a con dressed as a gender bent Chat Noir, and I met a little 4 year old dressed as Chat Noir as well, so after her parents asked for a pic of me and her (she was shy :3), I knelt down to her, and told her how awesome it was to meet her, and said that I thought for sure she was the real Chat when I met her, and she was absolutely beaming and I loved it!
Never done cosplay outside of Halloween. Will be doing my first one this year. But before I had it cut (and dyed purple, full on Raven hair lol), my hair was past butt length and was blonde and you wouldn't believe how many kids asked me if I was princess Aurora, ESPECIALLY when I wore pink. I just learned to play along lol. I mean I do sleep a LOT so I spoke from experience 😂😂😂😂
This reminds me of when I cosplayed Star Butterfly for Sakura-con where my dad and I were in the car on our way when I had a little internal panicking moment where I was like, "WAIT. I forgot my *WAND* " and not to make my dad panic, I said it was fine. When we got to the Exhibitors hall, I saw a few girls who wanted pictures and it made me so happy knowing these girls liked my costume enough to ask for pictures. Fortunately, no one asked why I didn't have my wand, so later I told my dad, "Y'know, I could just say that security took it away since they didn't want me casting spells, or when people ask me to cast a spell when i do have my wand, I can just say i promised not to since that would be dangerous." So, this was a good idea for the future and I'm happy I didn't have to have that happen to me. I'm sorry you actually had to go through that but I'm glad you pulled through.
Ooh this story was so cute! I'm not very great with children but I'm planning on cosplaying Elsa from the new short film later this year. I think my response to children asking me to show them my ice-power would be "but if I made ice, the floor would get all slippery! There's a lot of people here, and I don't want them to fall." but honestly every other question would make me panick inside and go uhhhhhhhh.. ye!! idk help!!!
As someone who does charity with kids in cosplay...KIDS ARE FUCKING STARTLING!!! Either they want you to show powers and stuff or they see right through you and ask you the most technical things about your costumes. It's never quite what one would expect. It's tough to stay in character when you're someone with superpowers, or a fairy or something. Improv classes helped me so much to just come up with something on the spot (usually some really convoluted thing) And honestly: You can prep and practice all you want...there is probably gonna be at least one kid who will catch you off guard
I understand. I made my mom buy a few episodes of Danganronpa: The Animation once, and them the 'Inappropriate Content' warning came up. I freaked out.
I had a similar experience one time! I was cosplaying Merida from Brave and doing a photoshoot in a park and these group of kids saw me and watched me the whole time and they ended up talking with me and I had to use a (probably awful) Scottish accent and they were asking me where my horse was and if I could shoot my bow and I had to come up with all these answers on the fly. My answers were probably not the most creative but I was just unprepared for all these kids to fawn over me. However it was so cool to have them think I was the real Merida and one girl had her mom take a picture of her and I and it was so amazing. Definitely one of my favorite experiences in cosplay.
If I'd ever cosplay Elsa i'd take a bag with two of the same drinking cups only one would be frozen and i'd say to the kid to look at me while my friend switches the cups XD
I remember once I cosplayed a Human!Bill Cipher at a convention, and there was this really cute little girl and she talked to me and told me how much she loved Bill ;w; twas adorable. 🖤
Something like that happened to me! I was in my Goku cosplay, and a little kid...like four or so....ran over to me. He said something in spanish....and ran off. He came back...said some more stuff in spanish...and ran off again...then he comes back with his mom. His mom says "Excuse me...my son..he wants to know are you...um..Goku, si?" "Yeah! That's me!" I said. The kid has a huge smile on his face."My son he...you are his favorite. Can he...he wants a picture with you? is that okay?" "Yeah, sure thing!" The kid's eyes were the size of dinner plates, and his smile was huge. "Thank the nice man." the lady said. "Nice meeting you!" I said to the kid. "Remember, train hard, do the best you can, and never give up!" Kids, you know?
Me and my friend went as levi and erwin to a con saturday and a little girl asked us for a picture and i swear to God it was so cute i was dying of joy
You are so good with kids and handled it so well. I love all the positivity at cons!! I think most people feel safe around like minded person and we can all open up and be the best versions of ourselves ❤
I love meeting kids while in cosplay, it’s so sweet and I’ve always had such a great time. Kids are so sweet and I love bringing to life the characters I play.
I had a little girl do the exact same thing last week when I was dressed as Elsa! She came up to me and was so excited to see me and my friend, who was my Olaf for the day... and then she asked if I could use my ice powers. I had a small internal panic attack and was able to come up with a story about making a bet with Anna to not use my powers for the entire day, which she seemed to buy. It was a cooler day, so I told her I'd used my powers before I left Arendelle to make sure Olaf wouldn't melt. I swear, kids can really keep you on your toes.
I was Cosplaying Hermione at a con and a little boy I say he was only 5 or 6 came running up to me shouting "Hermione Hermione!" And he just gave me the biggest hug and he started asking me questions and I almost cried because he was just the cutest
I know late I am 😂😂 but last year I went to London comic con as toga from bnha, and I had made and brought all of her gear (the big neck collar thingy haha) and this kid in a rin kagamine cosplay who looked about 4, and she looked so happy and just ran to hug me, she just started talking to me about stuff from the anime and asking me how it felt in that moment, and it was literally so cute, but I was quite short (I was 14 at that time but I’m a drama student soo it could’ve been much more awkward lmao) but my dad was just staring at me from a distance and laughing at how happy I looked 😂😂
I’m planning a genderbent Raven myself and I know a few levitation magic tricks. So I’d suggest learning one and remembering the magic words Azarath, Metrion, Zinthos! That should impress a few children and have them believe they’ve met the real Raven.
I love seeing the different reactions from kids at conventions, I think a lot of them do think you are the actual character. So I just try to be as in character as possible when they approach me. XD
Oh man! That story was awesome! I think my favorite kid interaction was when my friend and I were dressed as Ruby and Weiss from RWBY, and we both had made their weapons (Ruby's gigantic gun-scythe and Weiss's revolver-sword). So this group of kids (10-15 of them) came up to us to see us. Some of them asked to hold our weapons, and we let them hold them, but we had to tell them to be super careful with them because they're heavy and also guns. I don't know if they knew who we were, but we were so happy to see how amazed and happy they were
This is so cute and so pure!! I love actually getting into character when I cosplay. I bounced around my first Comic Con as Harley Quinn being obnoxious and silly (within reason) and sneaking up on my friends and scaring them and it was so much fun. And at Supanova last year, I cosplayed Chloe Price with my friend Tanya as Max and we walked around quoting them and talking like them all day. Sooo many people came up and got photos with us and it really made me feel appreciated. ^_^
When I wore Princess Bubblegum I was waiting for friends in a city centre and the amount of kids who would scream and jump up and down would be adorable. While at the con a literal child was dressed as Finn and wanted picture I nearly cried it was so cute
I think theres this trick you can learn to do where you make it look like you actually levitate a few inches off the ground..? I don’t remember but if I’m right you should totally try to learn how to do that!
This reminds me of a mildly similar situation I found myself in, and an answer I came up with on the spot that you can feel free to use. I was at C2E2 a few years ago, and dressed as Newt Scamander, and waiting for the shuttle bus to my hotel. Suddenly a large group shows up waiting for the same shuttle, two obviously exhausted parents, and 6 little girls who had just recently watched Fantastic Beasts, and were super excited to meet the hero (admittedly, I look closer to Jacob in size, but I can go into character really well). The parents were all but vacant eyed, so I put on my best Eddie Redmayne voice, and happily engaged them. I told them stories about what my friends were doing, how deeply I cared for Tina, and then I noticed one thing... they were disappointed that my case was stuck in the “Muggle Worthy” setting and that I wasn’t doing the magic spells. Well, since we were in Chicago, I pulled from the lore of the Dresden Files and told them (again, in Newt’s voice and cadence), “Well, did you notice that no one else used their magic spells, or super powers, or anything?” They nodded, and I continued, “Well, that is because we all wanted to come and visit this amazing place, and delightful people like yourselves, but in order to do that we had to sign an agreement that in coming we would not use those powers and magics, because someone might get hurt in this small a space. It is called Accorded Neutral Territory, meaning we can come from anywhere and everywhere,so long as we come out never to hurt and only for fun.” They bought it big time. The parents grinned, I assume having read the books I was cribbing from. The shuttle showed up, and the parents had to keep the kids from trying to sit with me on it. So I kept their magic alive, by explaining why no one was allowed to do more than pose or bring safe versions of their weapons.
Here's an idea of what to do next time! Next time a small child thinks you're real and asks about powers claim super strength because then if they say show me you can say "well, if it's okay with your mom/dad I could even lift you!" and then do so. They'll probably be satisfied and if they say "well my mom/dad can lift me" say "well they must have powers too!" Or something like that.
"It's too dangerous to do it here" is my go-to response when kids do that. I cosplay Starscream from Transformers Prime, and there have been a few kids who want me to transform. I can't tell if they're serious or just having fun pretending, but I go with it and tell them if I transformed I would knock a huge hole in the roof and everyone would have to leave. Kids' reactions are by far the best part of cosplay. One time these two tiny, pixie-like little girls who were twins came and each one hugged one of my legs and said I was their favorite transformer and my heart grew three sizes that day. That same con these two brothers were making their toys fight me, and moving my arms and pretending to fire my missiles, like I was a giant toy transformer. Their parents were so freaked out but my costume is sturdy XD
Lol kids have no boundaries at times, I had a little girl run up and hug me (no conversation starter or anything) while I was in just a casual cosplay. Her mom was apologetic but I was okay with it because it was so cute! I know it’s maybe not a great habit bc not everyone cool with it, but still, I found it charming. And overall, I love interacting with kids at cons! I never really got much interaction from kids in the past bc I used to mostly cosplay characters from shows like Free! and No.6 and some other more teen/adult shows, but now one of my favorite costumes is my Pearl costume from Steven Universe (especially “past pearl”) and I’ve had so many kids come up to me and be so excited to see me as Pearl and it makes me so happy! Kids looking up to me/being excited to see me as a character that I love and identify with makes me so excited and proud, I totally agree that it means the world! (Also based on this story I’m thinking I should perhaps come up with an excuse if a kid ever asks for me to use any of Pearls powers like summoning things from her gem haha!)
I love doing my wonder woman as there's a young kid in the cardiff con circle who loves superheroes and princesses. She got really shy when she saw me it was so cute!
On Halloween like. 2014? I was Elsa and some kids asked me to freeze some zombies on the other block. Little did they know... I'm not really elsa, and I also lived in fear of that block because I hate. zombies. lol!!!
I was at Mobile Bay Anime Fest last month, and there was a large number of Hazbin Hotel cosplayers. The cutest was this little girl, probably around 5, dressed as a little Charlie and all of the Hazbin cosplayers thought she was absolutely precious. I even gave her a prop knife(I was Nifty) and let her try to fight an Adam cosplayer
Aww man this reminds me of when I was red Link from four swords back in 2013(?) and this little boy (probably 6-8 years old?) tells me through his dad that red was his favorite link and he was so happy to get a picture with me, and it just makes me want to react better to moments like these because it's like you are representing everything that they love and idolize and it's just too pure 😭❤
I remember once I played a character in theater for Aladdin. I was a side character, who's name was never even mentioned by any of the other characters. I needed to change out of my costume and a little girl from my school pointed at me and said "I saw you!" That really made my day, as a character who wasn't important to the plot it just made me really happy. Even days after the show, she kept pointing and say "I saw you!" Even next to my friends who actually played important characters, she only noticed me.
I'm super happy that you came to Sakura-con this year! I only recently started following your channel a few months ago, so I'm a relatively new fan compared to some... But when I knew you would be there I kept my eyes peeled just for a chance to say hi, but didn't expect to actually see you since most people are busy at cons, especially RU-vid celebrities. Then to pass you in the venders hall, and get totally blank minded asking if you we're really you out of shock! Also embarrassed and feeling like a total wierdo, I wanted to ask for a picture, but out of respect that you seemed to be in a hurry, I only asked for a hug. You we're so sweet and cheery and it really made my con exp. Thank you so much for taking your time to speak to this awkward weeb, and take care! Hope to maybe see you next year?
i was cosplaying minako at a local con and a little chibi usa started waving to me and i think my heart melted because i saw her a couple more times kids are precious
When i dressed up as star on gamescom one little girl just came up to me and was like "can i photo??" instead of can i take a photo with you cause she was just sooo excited and just went right next to me for a picture and lays her head on my torso and her dad is all concerned like did you ask her did she ask you gawd it was the cutest thing ever
I am italian so sorry for my not perfect english, but that happened also me. I was in an original charachter cosplay of an Elf and a littel girl, that was with her father, thinked that i was a real Elf 😂. Love that 😍
I dressed up as a plague doctor with a friend for the argentinian comic con I didn't think we would attract any children, but one kid actually got super excited about seeing us and came rushing to take a picture with us It felt awesome
I've always wanted to cosplay as so many characters, but where I live we don't have anything other than Fan Expo, and I'm waaay to broke to afford anything for a costume, let alone fly to another place for a convention. Its always been my dream though!
Do they celebrate Halloween where you live? If so, just hand out candy to Trick-or-Treaters while dressed as your preferred character! You're a lot less likely to be recognized, but hey- it's still as good an excuse as any to wear a costume. ^‿^ Cosplays don't have to be expensive, either. I'm no expert, but I have seen RU-vid videos with titles like "How to Cosplay on a Budget," so you might be able to research tips for making something you can afford.
ChaosRayZero We do have Halloween here! I live in Canada :) and thanks for the idea. I'm planning to do that, but I still dream to go to a convention. Halloween will have to do for now. Thanks though ^-^
My friends and i did a my hero academia cosplay and it was my first “complex” kind of cosplay, and people asked us for pictures (i was ochako). I’m still new to cosplay, and i felt really proud that people recognized us and heartwarming.
This is the cutest story ever! thats so sweet. I love meeting kids at conventions. I cosplay Joker and Kids Just Love the Joker. i just love seeing their faces light up.
I got something similar from a kid while I was cosplaying Keith from Voltron... they thought I was real!! So,,, I had to lower my voice for it and answer all the questions
Oh my gossshhh this is the cutest. I had a kid ask me if I'm really Loki when I was at a park on Free Comic Book Day but before I could chat with her, her mom called her away. I need to practice quotes for kids.
I was cosplaying as belle from beauty and the beast and so many little girls came up to me and thought I was actually belle. They all wanted to give me hugs and take pictures and I just was internally crying because children are usually scared of me and I felt really loved and accepted.
Ah such a cute story! Kids at conventions are so cute! I cosplayed Jack Frost for my first con and a little boy walked up to me, completely in awe and said: I have a movie of you! It was the most adorable thing ever!!
This also happened Kiss Tô Me do a Cosplay And Raven (Purple Marinha) Con Uniform e Capuz Violeta ou Do a Cosplay And Ana a (Adventure And Frozen II) Até Agora My Lady Pois Me Con (Mutano) ou (Garoto da Renascença) Minha Lindíssima Maninha e Querida aos (Teens Titãs GO! a (Raven Pink) Anda Panda Beijinhos xD (?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)
I was cosplaying Kris from Deltarune and somebody came up to me and said "Chara doesn't cover their eyes with their hair..." (Chara is from Undertale) I just stood there for a very quiet second...then pulled Kris' signature move...the finger gun flirt!
Omg that reminds me of one time when I was cosplaying Lucy and my friend was cosplaying Juvia! We were in line waiting to get into the con and this mom taps my shoulder and she’s like “omg you’re Lucy cosplay is so stunning! My 8 year old son pointed it out!” So I turn around and I’m like “oh thanks “ I was very surprised an 8 year old watched fairy tail. So then the mom pushes her eight year old out from behind her and she’s whispers really loudly “Quinn say hello to Lucy!” And the boy is just stunned and he looks at his mom then at me then at his mom and finally he’s like “you’re really pretty Lucy “ and I’m just kind of awkwardly there like “thanks!” And then the boy totally didn’t notice juvia his mom had to point it out and for the 20 minutes in line this little boy talked about fairy tail and how if Lucy was real I’d be Lucy and complementing me. I WAS DYING HE WAS SO CUTE I love kids they’re adorable
I'm twelve and learning to hand sew, hopefully learning how to use a sewing machine at sone point, and I hope to start being able to make cosplays. You are probably my biggest cosplay inspiration and I found you recently. I haven't really seen many cosplay channels and I've only done one cosplay so far, but I admire you so much
This happened to me too. I was in a con with a friend as Sapphire from Steven Universe, and my friend was Garnet, and a couple of kids came to us asking for a pic, and after we take the picture they started to say they were huge fans of us and some things like that but they mean it about the character, no about us as cosplayers. Then they ask me where was Ruby and I had to say that she was buying some food, even though I was there without any Ruby partner. They were adorable, and I don't really like to be with kids, because my patience is very short and I don't know how to deal with them and I get really anxious, but in cons is totally different, they are so cute and adorable.
I just tell the little ones that conventions are very special places for us heroes/villains/creatures to go and hang out with friends, but super powers are against the rules. I try and explain it to them like how sometimes moms and dads tell them that it's not play-time and they can't play with their toys or whatever for a set amount of time, and that it's the same thing with us and powers or abilities at conventions/parades ^^' it's worked so far for me and it keeps the magic real for them.
