The balance between instruments and choir was exactly as it should be. Well done. Most conductors don't pay attention to that and end up with a performance of the instruments with choir in the distant background. Such a well disciplined choral ensemble. There's much to commend.
glorious, my first experience of this music, and this choir, I do so love jazz, and I am a practising Christian - here is the perfect combination! A wonderful expression of love for God, Christ and the Holy Spirit, and love of praise through music. I love watching the singers' faces, its all so magical. LOVE IT, LOVE IT x
Gloria, indeed! What an uplifting experience to see and hear this wonderful choral group presenting the profound Latin texts, in the modern medium of jazz, and with a beautiful ensemble of musicians of oriental decent. I found this combination exhilarating and exciting in its skill and artistry and am grateful to have encountered it.
Since listening to this version yesterday, I have checked out a number of other versions, I have to say with all my heart, this is the most moving, most touching, most technically virtuistic version I have found. I commend you all xx
I just joined the college choir and they are preparing this piece. At first i couldn't realize how beautiful it is due to its complexity. After listening to it a few times, I can sing this in my head for hours :D
I like the piece and it is well sung. Isn't the choir beautifully turned out, too? Great piano accompaniment and accompanist.. Bob's music never ceases to thrill and emote.
Just back from Toronto seeing a performance in St James's Cathedral. This inspired me and my brother to check out other performances. This is absolutely beautiful!!! Thanks for sharing this
Dont worries, mine too. The problem is that My school is extremely conservative. They consult some sindicate before sing anything on the church. pfff chatolics (chatolic)
Всё хорошо, но в 4 части не слышно альтов вообше Это обидно. И вообще мужчин на протяжении всего произведения не слышно😪 А так очень красивое исполнение.
19th century period costumes? just standard concert dress. Uniform black. Women's choir in one design so as not to distract from the music; empire waist accommodates all figures. Ditto the pianista, but a different design. The bass player is in a mussolini-black shirt with black docker cargos or something, the guy on traps similarly arrayed. Jazz musicians get special dispensation but this is obviously a formal venue, or wants to be.
viabilityjane I disagree about the empire waist accommodating all figures, but otherwise agree about keeping patterns the same/closely similar. I do wish concert dress would denote only patterns, though. Black clothing is lovely but a brighter color wouldn’t necessarily detract from the performance or make it less formal. I just want more color!
A decent performance, although I find the 19th century period costumes of the peformers somewhat strange for this type of music. Whether this is music appropriate for liturgy is a different question, of course. I feel a bit uneasy when this musical style is used within church. OTOH this is a concert in concert hall, so anything goes, provided it entertains the audience.
This is not period costume at all though, it's just a uniform... and I think it's quite fitting. I must say I can't speak on the appropriateness of this for any religious contexts, to me this is just good music and that's it...
well sung in a professional manner, but they lost the swingy style of jazz. you'll notice especially when you look at their stiff postures. and it doesn't sound religious at all. it might be better if the singers were all christian.
