I don't believe there has ever been a character who performs such an act of evil as Ms. Minchin. To stare right into his face and say "This child has no father." Uh she deserves a lot worse than she gets.
The clip cuts out before they show it, but my favorite part is when Sara stretches her arm out to Becky and Becky runs over to them. Captain Crewe immediately throws his arm around her too. No questions asked. Just automatically accepts her as a daughter because Sarah and her are friends.

I love when she slowly glances up and realizes that the man talking to her is her father!!! This is one of my favorite movies. It seemed like, through the entire movie, she always knew, in her heart, that he still had to be alive somewhere... she never gave up!
It was as if when he was reported dead, Sara lost all her hope and later on, her hope was reborn when Ram Dass sent her some snow and after that, she worked on throughout the day believing her father was alive. It’s like she didn’t know that he was alive for sure, but she believed he was.
3:12-3:20 When you realize the Indian gentleman was an Angel sent by God to watch over Sarah and her father. How else would he have gotten his memory back so quickly? And the food and flowers in the attic-how would the Indian have put that there without waking anyone up?
Spoiler Alert: In the book, Sara's father really did die. The ending was completely different. The old man next door turned out to be an old friend of Sara's father who had managed to recover her father's money, and had spent the previous two years looking for her to adopt her (she was an orphan and a servant for two years in the book), but couldn't remember her name. When Sara visits the old man to return Ram Dass' runaway monkey, the man realizes that she's the child he was looking for the entire time, and Sara is freed from her life as a servant. Cue the disappointment of me, who saw the movie first.
@@lukasmiller486It kind of is. It's still a bit of a contrived coincidence that the guy who was looking for her happened to live right next to the boarding school, but it is more realistic, and it's a great ending in its own right.
If your refering to the part where she is taken to the tower and she draws a circle on the floor and lies there crying and calling for her father... That part really breaks my heart.

I teared when her dad left. I cried when she thought he was dead. I sobbbedddd at this scene. Everyone needs to watch this movie at least once in their lives, especially girls. So much to learn from it.
Ms. Minchin truly deserves much worse. But I can’t help but think what she went through that turned her into such a horrible person… her dad probably molested her or something. Whenever Sarah called her out and asked if her father ever called her a princess, and she stormed out crying, that spoke volumes about the pain that she probably went through. It’s still no excuse for her awfulness… but one wonders.
Are you really saying people can just turn into horrible people because their own dad molested them and that's what made them bad? I remember watching this movie with my cousin Abbie. I hated watching it it with her because as a boy, I thought it was so dumb. I'm older now and I realized why she made me watch this movie with her: she missed her father. Right now, well, I miss my cousin Abbie.

I'm pretty much crying throughout this whole movie (for pas personal reasons), but this scene has me bawling, curled up in a corner. It's so beautiful.
Up till this day I always end up crying at this scene Captain Crewe doesn't have his memories and Minchin wants to take advantage of the situation in a heartless way until He remembers his beloved daughter
Even if you're not serious and that was so, he'd still be a better man then the majority of the adults in the movie. Seriously she's calling for help and he's the only one listening.
This whole movie, but ESPECIALLY this scene, makes me think of my uncle who never ceased to remind me I was his princess. He died shortly before my 18th birthday of cancer. I miss you Uncle.

I grew up with 3 sisters, I ended up watching this with them several times as a kid. To this day, I don't understand how Minchin could do what she does to a literal child, especially one as kind as Sara. If I ever have a daughter someday, I hope I can be as good of a father as Sara's.
I enjoyed this movie greatly as a 7yr boy. Separated from my parents for a few years, watching it provided comfort. It portrayed a young character also apart from their parents, showing their coping mechanism. It gave me a big imagination

It took me AAAGES to finally find the name of this movie. All I could remember was a girl escaping an evil bitch of a headmistress during a thunderstorm. Finally all the googling paid off and I found it. Hope Ms. Minchin the bitch got what she deserved. The acting in this is phenomenal.
